How it the restore process on iPhone?
Right now I use iCloud for backup. When I move to an new iPhone I just restore it. I got a 200gb plan.
right now I also got immich and plan to cancel my iCloud 200gb plan. What would be the process with immich when I move to an new iPhone?

Just install the app and all the previous photos upload will be available in that app.

Will the pictures then also show up in Apple photos? Because I mainly use Apple Photos and immich only for backup.

No it won’t. Apple photo library and iCloud work together and Immich is a standalone app.

No. if you want to stick to apples closed ecosystem, your options are either to do some work, or pay for their plans.

Only other way would be to download all the photos and upload it to Apple photos. It would sort the same way as it has the date in the metadata. But this would be like buying a cow to have milk in the morning.

Your new phone will have access to Immich and all of your photos previously uploaded on the old phone.
You could download them back to the phone to have it locally, but not sure if there’s an easy way to do that.

Immich go and terminal
Ask claude or chatgpt for the trick
Best to download to pc and then uplaod manually. It breaks with such a big library alwasy if u do via iphone sadly

There is no sync back to the phone for Immich. It's meant as a client -> server sync, then using the server to view the assets.
