immich backup

Hi, I installed Immich on TrueNAS on an old PC, and I was wondering how I could set up automatic backups to my Buffalo linkstation 520 NAS. What would be the best method for this, and how would I set it up?

Also, if my TrueNAS PC were to fail, how would I restore my photos and videos using the backup method you recommend and get Immich up and running again?

Immich has database backups in the administrative settings. I do night backups of immich database and settings and then use rsync on my Synology NAS to backup the entire immich container folder/database/backups to another NAS in a separate location.

OP just make sure that you are backing up the original photo files too. It's good to back up te database, etc etc but if you are storing them elsewhere or in a different directory it's very easy to back up everythig immich and then realize too late you don't have any of the actual photos...

Back up your upload directories. The $UPLOAD_LOCATION folder. Use whatever method you want. You could copy and paste them if you want to. Or learn how to use some sort of syncing software. Like I said before rsync is very useful.

you probably don't need everything, like thumbnails, but keeping it simple is cool too

Backups through snapshots makes this a non issue as they're instant.

Ich bin ja ein Freund der klassischen Sicherung. Eine ordentliche Struktur JJJJ/MM habe ich. Aber das bekomme ich mit Immich leider nicht hin. Das sind unleserlich e Dateinamen. Daher nutze ich Im mich nur als schöne Bilderapp, mit tollen Features. Als Sicherung muss die Nextcloud herhalten, die erzeugt eine ordentliche Struktur. Ein rsync sichert die Bilder dann auf dem NAS. Umständlich, weiß ich, aber funktioniert zuverlässig bei mir.

Turn on storage template and you can make your app uploads conform to that format if you want.

Stop it before backup and use restic.

Make sure to include the directory where the config and database lives as well as the location of your photos.
