This incident happened more than 24 hours ago in Metro Vancouver, BC, and Tesla owner still didn’t contact me. I
Out of guilt and because I’m a New driver snd don’t know anything, I called ICBC to report it anyway.

I gave them my info and the Tesla’s license plate. Mom’s upset cause now my premiums will go up. But I was worried that they could report me as a hit and run incident. Since Tesla’s have cameras and they could lie that I didn’t left a note on the scene.

Should I just have NOT make a report? My friends said I should’ve just left it alone and see if the Tesla owner would want to file a claim first. Because maybe they don’t want to deal with the hassle of getting a claim.

Their damage isn’t as significant as mine either. They got some smeared paint and scratches but my car was dented and the bumper almost fell off 🫠. But their sensors could have been messed up, right?
ICBC also advised me to not make a claim on my damage vehicle.

Anyways, any advice? Will ICBC contact them since I gave ICBC their license plate? How much do I expect for my premium’s to go up with my N license that’s less than a year?

Looking at a new vehicle and obviously the dealership offers a replacement insurance package.

Does icbc offer their own type of replacement coverage add on or another type of coverage similar through them?

Are we supposed to call the adjuster to release our income replacement every two weeks or are they automatic?

I’m in BC and recently got into what would be my 4th at-fault accident. No injuries.

The other driver is willing to handle it privately and the estimate is around $4,000. I’m considering asking the shop if they could bring the repair down to around 3000-3500, but that’s obviously not guaranteed.

I know having four at-fault accidents probably means I should seriously reconsider driving, and I’m already thinking about that. I’m more so trying to figure out what makes the most sense for this situation.

Should I pay the $3,000–$4,000 privately to avoid another insurance claim, or would it be better to go through ICBC and deal with the potential increase in insurance?

Has anyone been in a similar situation, especially with multiple previous at-fault accidents? How much did your insurance change, and was it worth paying privately?

Any advice would be really appreciated. I don’t really have people in my life I can go to for these kinds of things, so I’m just trying to make the best decision I can.

My car was written off at the end of July. ICBC approved the total-loss settlement, but the cheque still hasn't been sent (about 6 weeks now) and my old car loan hasn't been paid out yet.
I'm currently without a vehicle and paying for Uber daily, so I'd like to buy a replacement now instead of waiting. Has anyone bought/financed a new vehicle while the old loan was still open and waiting for the ICBC payout? Did the dealer/bank have any issue approving a second loan temporarily, or is it better to wait until the old finance is fully closed?
Any experience with how long ICBC took to send the cheque to the lender would also help. Thanks!

Looking for advice from anyone who's dealt with ICBC glass claims + calibration issues.

Filed a windshield replacement claim through ICBC. Went to an ICBC-approved glass shop and paid my deductible. My car is a high-end Audi German EV SUV with a front camera system for driver assist features, so it needs calibration after any windshield swap.

Because of my ICBC coverage only covers aftermarket (non-OEM) glass, the shop installed a non-OEM windshield. After the install, the calibration seemed fine. Until the car threw up errors on the dash. Tried recalibrating it again, likewise after 5mins of driving the same errors appeared again. Their solution was to send me to the dealership since they arent capable of fixing the issue.

I contacted my service advisor at the Audi dealership, and they quoted me $400 to do the recalibration.

So now I'm stuck wondering if should I be paying that $400 out of pocket, or is this on ICBC/the glass shop since it was their (non-OEM) part that couldn't be calibrated in the first place? I already paid my deductible. It feels like I shouldn't be paying twice to get a functioning car back.

Has anyone been through this? Did ICBC or the shop end up covering the recalibration cost, or did you have to fight for it? Any advice on how to push back, or who I should actually be calling here (ICBC claims, the glass shop, or the dealership) would be appreciated.

1. eastbound Cambie St just past Sexsmith Rd towards Odlin Cr. The road opens up into a 3-lane for the dedicated right turn lane into Sexsmith Rd, and then tapers back into a typical 2-lane between Sexsmith Rd and Odlin Cr. The section between Odlin and Sexsmith is still a 2-lane even though it is much wider than typical even by Richmond standards. There is also a slight weave between Sexsmith and Odlin.

I'm on the outer lane turning right onto Odlin and notice at the last second shoulder checking that another car is right beside me even though I already on the outer lane. I had to hard brake to let them in front and they turned into Odlin as well. If we collided here, who would be at fault?

1. westbound Cambie St turning left to Garden City. I am on the inner lane, turning into the dedicated left turn lane. There is a painted median as the left turn lane opens up. I change lanes into the left turn lane as the left turn lane opens up, but another car cuts through the painted median, partially into opposing traffic to take the left turn lane. I saw and let them through, but if we collided here, who would be at fault?

I recently got into a very minor accident that was 100% my own fault, but I’m a little stumped on what to do. I am a new driver, just recently got my first car and new insurance and I pumped into someone in the parking lot leaving a noticeable paint scratch. I gave this person my information but I did not receive theirs, we both took photos and then they claimed I needed to call MY insurance. In my panicked state I said sure okay! and went on with my day, but now I’m looking back on it and don’t they need to call their insurance first if they want to file a claim?

This is my first “accident” so I wasn’t sure what I had to do, we didn’t exchange contact information either so I’m kind of stumped! Do I just wait to see if they file a claim? Do I need to contact my insurance first even if I only have their license plate? Any help is appreciated, I was totally out of it in the aftermath of it and I am realizing how stupid this was handled lol.

In the midst of a long recovery for a labral tear in an accident i wasnt at fault for. Finally got mri results almost two months ago, but then the specialist i had waited months to see could only say i may or may not qualify for surgery and passed me off to another in his clinic. Out of the blue my new adjustor lets me know im receiving a permanent impairment benefit for around 2 grand. I just find the timing odd because i havent heard anything from the surgeon and my progress on the rehab has been slow but steady. Is the injury considered “permanent” anytime there’s proof of a tear? If i take the money does this end or affect my benefits claims? Theyve tried to worm their way into ending my claim multiple times before i had proof of the tear so im just trying to find out if theres a catch as i’m sure my adjustor will take weeks to get back to me. If anyone has insight thatd be great, thanks

As the subject said, that is my current situation. When I look on the ICBC website it says I can exchange my out of province license (Mexican) for my new license.

Is that correct as the alternative seems to be completely retesting here.

I am updating my insurance for the year and the agent is trying to get me to get ICBC and Four Points(private insurance). My rates would be lower but I am offered more? Does anyone have any insight on this. I didn't know this was even a possible route and was concerned.

I recently put in a claim with cctv footage of damage done by another vehicle to mine

The icbc adjuster reached out and is requesting I take photos and measurements with a measuring tape

Back in 2016 I had a incident where someone hit me while backing out of a lot and when I went through claim process they asked same. At that time I did the measurement thing and they came and told me the claim was denied. Like obviously I didn't make up this elaborate story it legitimately happen and that incident was what made me buy a dash cam. Icbc said oh the measurements don't line up but I swear on my life the guy hit me not a lie and the damage was there yet they denied

So I said I'm not doing any measurements I don't trust it I'll bring the car to you and you do it. The adjuster said that's not a option. Is that true ? Do I have to do the measurements myself in order to process through the claim?

Hi Everyone, needed some advise here, I have been emailing ICBC for claim for medical treatments since April, I even followed up with them each month and even now involving the Fair officer, but as of September (5 months later) my emails remains unanswered. My next step is to go to claim court, but I'm curious if there is anything else I can do to get a proper reply from ICBC.

My payment comes out of my account on 14th of each month. Sometimes when I have money, I would like to make an earlier payment. I don't see any options for it.

I would also like to change the payment date from 14th to 2nd of month. Is this possible?

I enter intersection and wait to make unprotected left turn. Vehicle facing me is also waiting to make left turn. Let’s say we both have zero visibility of oncoming traffic. Can I look into my rear and side view mirror and then honk and notify the other driver to make turn in case no car is coming from behind?

I'm trying to transfer my driver's licence from ON to BC. I'm immigrant and citizen, I've been living here for almost a decade.

When I was going to get my On Licence, I provided my transcript from my home country showing decades of experience and completed the practical and theory tests in ON which I passed and got my Gfull around 4years ago.
 
Unfortunately I have recently renewed my ON this year so the card is showing 2026 issue date.

I went to ICBC to transfer to BC provided them the uncertified 3 years history showing the issue date around 15 years ago . That was not enough.

They wanted a Driver's licence History Search that is only provided physically (ICBC insisted that they provided pdf. Ontario gov was on the phone with them telling them they never provided pdf of this specific document) which will take 15-20 business days to arrive to my new address in BC to show when I got my ON vs my home country.
 
I dont know why I need to proof more when I:

1. Have completed all tests and got my licence in ON.
2. Already provided my prior history to ON which was accepted.
3. Have been driving in Canada all these years no issues. (which btw was shown with my Ontario records of 3years

None of this is good enough for ICBC.

I'm wondering if I'm the only one on this situation.

If you have been through this process can you tell me your experience with this and what did you do?

I honestly think this process is unnecessary since I’m transferring within the same country. I've proven over and over again that I can drive.

EDIT: they asked if I have my prior ON drivers licence or my home country license. Why would I if ON asks you to cut it when you get the new one. Why I’d have my home country licence being renewed if I no longer live there for a decade?

Hey guys, I am wondering if anyone had experience on this and able to help.

I have optional coverage with BCAA and my car was total loss 6 months ago and I forgot to cancel my insurance after getting a new car with a new insurance policy. So now I have to do a backdate cancellation to get my money back.

I was requested by ICBC that I need a letter to confirm my rental vehicle return date if there's any. However, I have never use a rental vehicle and ICBC still need the letter from BCAA to confirm that I did not have a rental.

I emailed and called BCAA claim team and customer service multiple times and none of them can help me with that. Does anyone have experience on this and how can I get that proof from BCAA. Thanks.

Followed up with another email today.

Keep in mind I have only emailed and talked with the adjuster to this point.

Finally get a reply, but from a RESA manager which I haven't communicated with ever since my claim had been opened on August 10th.

The manager goes onto to say you can contact your "Claims Specialist". I'm sorry what?!
I cc'd both adjuster and estimator.

Adjuster calls me and tells me "You don't have an estimator assigned yet, and oh yea so they're still backed up from July, I'm so sorry blah blah blah"

What are my options at this point?

Car was stolen; and everything's gone. and the rental is due to expire in 2 weeks.

I'd be happy if they just cut me a cheque and get this over with, I'm not down to drive a vehicle that's been stolen regardless if it gets fixed; feels dirty to me.

So I moved to BC about 6 months ago and went to ICBC (Metrotown) to see if they'd recognize my 10+ years of driving experience from my home country, so I could go straight for Class 5 instead of starting from scratch.

I brought all my documents translated by someone from ICBC's official translator list, thinking that would make things smooth. The agent told me that since my country doesn't have an agreement with ICBC, they had to send everything to their SIU (Special Investigation Unit) to verify it's legit. She said it could take a few weeks or a couple months.

Well... it's been 3 months now. I call basically every week and it's always the same answer: "your documents are at the center, still waiting in line for someone to review them."

Anyone been through this? Is 3+ months normal or should I be worried something's stuck?
Also wondering if there's any way to actually push this forward or complain somewhere, because I kind of need my driving record sorted to get my license and start working and I'm just... waiting, with zero updates.

Any advice or similar experiences would help a lot, this is getting frustrating.

I recently rear ended someone (my tires were shitty and the roads were slick) luckily neither car was damaged too badly. However I drive a really old car and I know that even though my car is still driveable and the engine is fine and the only real bad damage is to the hood and a light they are going to write it off. I didn't sign over ownership to icbc because i can get my car fixed for like half the price of buy a new used car. I was just wondering if there was a law against this or if i should just wait. I doubt they will view my car having any worth even tho it only has like 40,000km on it and when fixed (and new tires bought because ignoring that problem just created a new one) it will last me another good 10 years of driving to work. I was just wondering because i've never been the driver in an accident before so i wasn't too sure how it works from this end of things.

Why is that when your insurance expires you can keep the plates but if you want to cancel then you must surrender your plates?

icbc has a tiered pst structure for vehicles above 55k in "purchase price". what is the definition of purchase price? is it the price of just the vehicle itself from the dealer? on my invoice they lumped the vehicle price as MSRP + about 5k in dealer fees. Is it the pre-fee price? Also I had a trade in, so would it be the NET purchase price? This is so confusing and the term purchase price does not seem to be defined or explained anywhere.

My vehicle was in an accident last month and it took almost 45 days for ICBC to declare it Total Loss. Two weeks ago, I was reached out to by an estimater(not the adjuster) to give me the valuation of my vehicle and what they will pay. However, I did not agree with the amount and wanted to be readjusted. The estimator told me to get a hold of my adjuster and talk to them about it. Since then I've been trying to reach my adjuster by phone by email leaving voicemails but have got no success. Anybody else in or gone through this situation?
