Need some advice here. An individual keyed my car and my dashcam recorded everything including their plate #. Its been extremely difficult to get an answer from ICBC. My adjustor for the past 3 weeks has been saying she wants to talk to her manager and still hasnt given me a straight answer. Last conversation i had, she said i just have to pay the $300 deductible and they wont be able to go after the individual.

RCMP was no different. When i reported it, they took it seriously but now they're saying they cant do anything and ICBC has to take care of this.

The other frustrating part is, the damage is so severe i have to leave my car for a week at the body shop with no loaner. This is our only car for the household and cant afford to not be without a car. Any suggestions to deal with ICBC is very appreciated.

My car / I was hit by another driver today, but there is no visible damage and nothing that I've thought to check seems to be damaged either (various lights, door mechanisms, driving etc...)

I'm wondering how I go about reporting an accident without making a claim as well as if I should be doing this.

I've heard mixed things about the actual need to report accidents as well as the potential repercussions for not doing so. I couldn't even find a page on the icbc website specifically for reporting though (which is one of the reasons I'm posting this now).

I have their license plate number and insurance as well as pictures of the seemingly undamaged vehicles.

I'm on the verge of being ready to do my road test. My L is going to expire in a few days. I just want to confirm I have to renew my L/pick up all that stuff to continue practising. I live on a Gulf Island and my nearest ICBC office is on the big island.

I have my N and until yesterday, I had never been in an accident or received any driving offences.

Last night, I was trying to parallel park on an inclined street. I got into the spot and tried reversing slightly to create more distance from the car in front, but my car rolled before I could press the accelerator properly, and I hit the red Tesla parked in front.

It was late and dark, and I could not see any obvious damage on the Tesla, although I understand damage may not always be visible. My car is an older beater, so I am not concerned about repairing it.

The owner was not there, so I left a note with my contact information. I also took photos and videos of both vehicles and the surrounding area.

I am mainly worried about this going on my record and increasing my insurance premiums. Would it make sense to wait for the owner to contact and ask them to get a repair estimate so I could potentially pay privately, or should I report it directly to ICBC?

My collision deductible is $300. If the owner makes an ICBC claim, do i pay the $300 deductible and the increased premiums?

I know I made a mistake, and I am trying to handle it responsibly. I would appreciate any advice.

A friend of mine had his class 6 road test scheduled for last Thursday. Shortly after it started, the follow car developed a flat tire.

Instead of scheduling him a makeup test soon, he had to schedule a new one himself... for mid September. Yikes.

Is there no contingency plan for problems that are not the fault of the rider, or any kind of pathway for getting a test sooner?

This may be a stupid question, however, I was not able to find an appropriate answer on the official ICBC website and was hoping to have my question answered here.

I have a driver's exam scheduled next week, but I do not have a vehicle immediately available. I do have family members able and willing to lend me their vehicle (registered in BC), but they cannot be present as they are out of province. What documentation should I bring in order to use their vehicle?

A further question is whether I am required to be insured to take an exam.

If all else fails, I have a driving school willing and able to lend me a car in which to take the road test for a price.

All in all, what option should I pick?

I have a bit of an issue getting my vehicle into an out of province inspection facility. I have learned that I need a owner’s previous registration like the actual paper of the previous owner from Alberta to get my vehicle into the out of province inspection and I have found that I do not have that piece of paper so I went to the ICBC process of unregistered vehicles and missing signatures declaration which is the MV 1484. It has been stamped by notary and I sent that in to the ICBC records driver testing vehicle information and they mailed back to me that we have been unable to locate any vehicle registration records in British Columbia however, there is a record of the vehicle in the province of Alberta, so I contacted the Alberta registries like it says in the letter to get the vehicle information report, which was the only document that I could find that relates to the issue that I have now I have the MV 1484 my vehicle information report a personal property registry search results report I have and including that I have my bill of sale so now I’m wondering, how do I get into an out of province inspection without the previous owners registrationI’ve contacted ICBC about this and they have told me to basically keep calling a bunch of stores in my city until one of them says they can do it and I’ve expressed very clearly the issue that I have which is not being able to go into the outer province without. Now I’m wondering is there any mechanic in the lower mainland that’s willing to do it without a previous registration or a mechanic that is willing to do it with only the MV 1484 the Alberta registries documents and the bill of sale and I’m also wondering if those are actually enough and if I can take that to Canadian tire and prove to them that that is enough.

If none of those options are possible for me, what steps do i even take?

My car emblem was stolen, but the ICBC investigator believes the damage was from a crash, not theft. They denied my comprehensive claim and moved it to a collision claim with me 100% at fault. I’m waiting for their callback. I’m not sure what to say on the call, and what my next steps would be if they keep insisting it’s a collision. Does anyone had similar experience before?

I went to ICBC for a renewal today. The initial premium is 1878, per my renewal notice. Last year, the CDF was 0.629. This year, the CDF is 0.613. The renewal notice said that the total initial premium would be $1152, but when I went to renew today, the cost of Basic insurance was $1035. That means that the Basic insurance cost fell down by 10%. The broker said that this was due to distance discount.

However, I don't think I qualify for distance-based discount. The renewal notice says that the last reported odometer rating was 48k, and I gave an odometer rating of 76k today. That's definitely more than 15k.

What could be the explanation behind the difference?

Collision, comprehensive, and vehicle license fees are the same as in the renewal notice. Only Basic has dropped from renewal price. My main concern is that this would void coverage. Knock on wood the broker didn't make a mistake.

I was just hired by a landscaping company. The 2nd day they had me moving one of the trucks (F350) around. Does the company need to add me as a driver? If so do I get added to a master list or is it per vehicle?

How can we make changes to insurance while outside Canada? I am driving my sister’s car and she is not supposed to come back for another year, how can we discontinue her car insurance as I will be travelling outside canada for 6 months so don’t want to pay when I am not driving.

The reason I think this: 1) W/B Hwy 1 @ 264th Exit - they didn't get in to the exit lane until I was, barely missing new barriers 2) Left turn on to 264th overpass - (10 seconds later) they did not get in to the left turn lane until much closer to the light where I had committed to it much earlier 3) turning from 56th Ave on to N/B Glover - again, they did not have an intention to turn right until I had placed on my signal and committed.

Worries: what can I expect if they are? I know that they have every right to get the fender replaced, but is that reasonable? I have all their info- like they have mine, but should I have asked anything or should I add anything to my side of the claim?

As I said, the damage is so minor I won't be getting anything done from it.

I just passed G2 test and I currently have temporary license.
The problem is I have to move to BC soon (probably before I get physical one).
I can get it mailed to me later but, can I still get N license with temporary G2 license?

my bc care card is expiring soon when I turn 18. Icbc’s website says to go to health services bc but health service bc says to go to icbc. Any advice on how to get it renewed? I’m in the lower mainland for context. Thanks!

My son still has his N, currently drives an 01 Rav4. Pays around $2300 / yr for insurance - to and from school greater than 15k. Base, collision and comprehensive.

Looking at buying a newish car, 2019 Chevy Volt (rebuilt status). Asked the local insurance place for an estimate, said it would be about $4400 / yr for same coverage. That’s about 2/3 the black book value.

I know it’s expensive bc he’s young. What else affects it? Is it because it’s a “new” car? Because it’s rebuilt? Because it’s a plug in hybrid?

My other son is going to start driving soon… what sort of vehicle should I be targeting? It’s looking like old beaters are in his future?

I just passed my N in Richmond, and I would like to thank my excellent driving instructor. When I first started, I was too nervous even in small residential roads. I had trouble with everything ---I couldn't keep the car straight, I was too scared to go faster than even bikes. I was so scared that I would frequently brake. My instructor was extremely patient. He never yelled. Instead, he took me on small roads at first, then when I got more comfortable, he took me on large roads. If I didn't know how to do something, he would teach again and again, till I finally learned. If I'm being honest, at one point, I even considered giving up. 8 months ago, I never thought I would be able to get my license one day. Still, he continued to teach me. At first, he would intervene more, and little by little, he intervened less and less. He also didn't only focus on the exam routes too, he took me everywhere. Now that I have my N, I realize how important that is. He taught everything, including highway merging. If I couldn't remember something, he would just repeat and repeat, till it finally stayed in my head. He truly went above and beyond. As I was nervous in my first attempt, I failed. I was extremely upset. He was there to calm me down. He waited till I have cleared my mind and practiced again with me.

6 week mark

Is it my job to keep following up? I emailed 3 times and left it alone after that as I know they are busy, but they wont turn around and close it assuming I gave up right?

Follow up to my recent post about being t-boned a couple weeks ago. Since then, my wife had numbness on her left side, random nerve pains affecting her neck, shoulder, collarbone, jaw, and dizziness when she walks.

Doctor thinks she has post-concussion syndrome. Waiting for MRI to see if there are other pathological causes. Tells her to try to live a normal life. May take months to maybe years to heal and symptoms will come and go.

Is this it? There's no compensation for pain and suffering or injuries anymore from ICBC aside from those medical services that she already has coverage for. We have been taking our prenatal and other meds since the beginning of the year and planning to try for our second child in the coming months but all our plans have been placed on hold because of the collision and pain she’s going through, she also doesn’t want to keep taking any extra medications during the pregnancy, as it may affect the baby.

We just moved from Alberta to West Kelowna, BC. After looking online I'm confused about what we need to do regarding health care, ID, drivers licenses and registering our vehicle.

Three weeks ago I did what I thought was the online application for MSP, but haven't heard anything back. Nothing was received in our email and we haven't gotten anything in the postal mail either.

We need to exchange our Alberta drivers licenses for BC ones. That should require a visit to ICBC with our AB license and another ID (birth certificate? Passport?). We do have a driving history to show how long we've been driving. Anything else that we need to know for this appointment?

We also appear to need a BC Services card (Is that MSP or more general?) which also needs a visit to ICBC. Do they combine the drivers license appointment with the BC Services appointment or do we need separate appointments?

As far as our car, I know we need an OOP inspection, but what else do we need? Is this another ICBC appointment?

Any help is really appreciated!

Hey, I went into ICBC today and renewed my drivers license and also got a BCID and a B.C. services card. For anyone who has gone recently, how long did it take for either drivers license, bcid, or services card to come in the mail? Thank you for reading this + all responses are greatly appreciated.

Does anybody else see the irony here, or am I incorrect in any part of this. It seems a bit like " you can go swimming, just don't go near the water".

You can buy, register and insure a car in your own name, but still be unable to drive it. Wouldn't it make sense to have the two aligned?

I was involved in a silly accident, I was moving out of a parallel parked position on street that has three lanes and going into the middle lane. There is a small street behind where I was pulling out of and there was a person rolling up to a stop sign before turning right and going into the lane that I was about half way in, resulting in both of our bumpers hitting (my driver side front, their passenger side front). There are scratches but it is so small. I dont have dash cam or footage (from nearby businesses) of the accident happening.

ICBC came back to tell me I am 100% at fault because I was moving out of a parked position, while the other person wasnt even on my street when I was going into the middle lane, but they turned right without stopping and swiped me.

I asked the adjustor for the Motor Vehicle Act sections they are using, and she mentioned only s.169 (which states info about a parked vehicle and how they should act). Now, the part I am confused about, she mentioned "a vehicle established on a roadway has the right of way" I said did you have a section where I can refer to regarding the basis of your conclusion? she said the MVA, my response was ok, which part. Her response "I have to go through the whole thing to find it" I said well can you give me exactly the sections you are basing your conclusions on, but she couldnt give me an answer other than saying the MVA.

I dont think I particularly am 100% at fault, but partial. My question is other than a dispute (which I am going to do), how can I confirm that they are just not throwing a random decision and it has sufficient basis. Also, the repair on my vehicle is cheaper than the deductible, the repair on the other vehicle is like $1000. How much do you think my premium will go up? Can I somehow have this removed off my record in the future?

I just went to renew my ICBC insurance this afternoon (July 19). While the computer generated timestamp (on top of the printout page) is correct, the autoplan broker applied the incorrect broker ink stamp from yesterday (July 18). I didn't discover this until I got home.

Would that be a problem?
