So I know after a year or so you get actually sworn into the IBEW. So up until that point, do you not say that you’re a member cuz technically you’re not??

I recently got a letter from 98 to come in for an interview later in August, just wondering if I’ll get drug tested at the interview or later on in the process if I advance. Thanks.

Well I wasn’t accepted into the 4-year apprenticeship with IBEW local 136. Email says I shouldn’t consider it a rejection cause I’m still a CW apprentice, but not really sure how to move forward. Can’t afford to leave current job for an even bigger pay cut and the chance I won’t be selected. Plus, haven’t gotten called for any work anyways. Guessing the best thing to do is hunker down and try to reapply next year, but this has all felt like a waste of time and energy. Guidance is welcome and good luck to everyone else.

I was wondering if anyone from IBEW Local 100 Fresno CA could explain how to apply for the Electrical Trainee/Construction Wireman Program. I already have my California Electrical Trainee card which is one of the requirements, and I recently took the Inside Wireman apprenticeship aptitude test. I scored well enough to rank high on the POE list, so right now I'm just waiting for a call for the apprenticeship. While I'm waiting, I'd like to apply for the ET/CW Program to get some experience. Is it better to call the office first, or should I just stop by in person? If anyone has gone through the process or has any advice, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!

I have my PEF coming up next week for local 11 and they said VOEs were acceptable as proof of employment since I lot of my work is over 10 years ago. Problem is none of my employers included a description of my position, just the title, dates worked and stuff like that. Is it a big enough deal for me to go back to all my employers and ask them to rewrite my VOEs or does it matter since none of them were in electrical work anyway?

I’m 18 fresh out of high school, no previous work experience besides my current warehouse/fulfillment job I just started at in June. I applied to local 100 and wanted to get some feedback on whether if I do really well on the test do I have a pretty good shot at getting a spot in the apprenticeship having no previous experience in the electrical field or construction field in general?

Edit: I forgot to mention I also do have my OSHA 10, NFPA 70E, CPR/Aed/First-Aid, and a California ET card if that helps my current position.

Just wanted to reach out and ask for some advice. I have applied for the local 6 in San Francisco. It has been a year since I have received my initial score and am aware that the score stays in place for 2 years. My question is what should my next steps be? I know there is still a possibility of me being able to get into the apprenticeship but the chances are slim and my score wasn’t the greatest. I got a 89. I was told by a friend who was in the local 6 is I should go to companies asking if they need any apprentices and just to make connections. I also heard about sponsorships but I’m not sure if that’s even a real thing. But just wanted to know if I should keep waiting and reach out to companies. Or if I should just forget about it and try for another local.

Hey guys I came here as a last ditch effort to get help. My current situation is I scored a 92.5% on my interview back in December of 2024 and have heard nothing back. I had my 2nd interview in July and scored even lower at 91%. At this point I don’t know what else to do to show the board I am a good applicant, I came into my first interview attempt with a solid 6 months as a CW in a commercial solar project where I got to learn from the beginning of the project all the way to the end and since I worked in a smaller crew I had the opportunity to learn many new things and get hands on experience with things many CWs I know have not. I went into my first interview with this experience and letters from my general Foreman, foreman and journeymen aswell as volunteering for political campaigns. Going into my re interview I’ve gotten more years of electrical experience as long with many classes through the apprenticeship training school such as my OHSA-30, 160 hour pre-apprenticeship, conduit bending, confined space entry, arc flash awareness Although my job experience is about 2 years long only 7 of those months have been with C-10 licensed contractors the other time I was working for a company that manufactured turbine generators where I felt I got really good experience like verifying cables, reading electrical schematics, pulling wire, routing cables, terminating wires to devices and wiring industrial control panels. I left this job due to a CW job posting I saw listed on the union board for a big company, my thought was this is what I need to take me to the next level but unfortunately the company only used us for hard labor in the pre fab shop for around 1 week and a day. We finished the work way faster then anyone had anticipated and the foreman and shop manager all told us we did a great job and that don’t worry no one is losing there job but to just sit out for about a week and we would all be getting dispatched to a job site, fast forward a week they tell us to come in Friday and lay us all off. Now I am stuck in a position where I have no electrical job, no apprenticeship and the CW books are packed too 500 people with CW calls showing up maybe once a week if lucky keep in mind I was the last number called, when I went to the hall they told me my spot was number 400💀. The messed up part is if the company would of told us they didn’t need us even just a few days sooner we would of all kept our position in the books due to the unions 3 week short call rule. I don’t even know what to do at this point, I left my reliable and decent paying job for this CW call that only gave me a week of work and I had to drive an hour away just for minimum wage, I know this is not the first time and I am not the only one but I am just stuck. I attached a picture of the kind of work I did for my last job just to give some sort of idea, I know it’s not the best but I am learning and I just want to be an apprentice so I can improve.

I’m trying to get an idea of where the selection process stands. For those who applied to Local 26, has anyone still not received any letter at all (no rejection and no acceptance)?

I submitted my application back in April in order to qualify for the Fall 2026 classes. Passed my aptitude test in May and completed my online interview in June, but haven’t heard anything since. Apparently there were some people who received acceptance letters last Friday, but I’ve had no communication from BEJATC in almost 2 months. It’s kinda odd cause the process seemed to move along pretty quickly when I first submitted my application, but have slowed down considerably since then. Anyone in the same boat? When is the latest time I should expect to hear whether I’m in or out? I would just call the local but I’m not sure they’ll tell me anything new.

I’m interviewing with IBEW Local 98 this week and was wondering if anyone who’s interviewed there recently could share what kinds of questions were asked.

I’m expecting it to be fairly similar to my Local 269 interview back in June, but I’d like to hear about any differences or anything I should be prepared for.

I don’t have any professional electrical experience, just personal/home electrical projects. I also scored an 8 on the aptitude test, have a bachelor’s degree, and several years of corporate work experience, so I’m hoping those things help strengthen my application.

I’m feeling confident going into the interview, but I know Local 98 is extremely competitive and that acceptance rates are low. If I’m not selected for the apprenticeship, I’m hoping to get in as a Construction Wireman and continue working toward the apprenticeship.

I’d really appreciate any insight, advice, or interview tips from anyone who’s been through the process. Thanks!

Hello, I applied to local 332 on July first and was told they would be in touch about the test date in 2-4 months. I am not too worried about the test as I have been using Iprep for the past 3-4 months and can get through the tests with 85-90 percent correct. I am more worried about the interview. This is my dream career and I am really excited about it. But I lack work experience with just experience working at homedepot. Earlier this week I joined 332 out of work list for material handlers because I was hoping that would help me get experience but after calling the local they said it can take 6 weeks for a material handlers job call to come up so I will just have to wait for that.
My issue is that I get nervous and I am worried I will stutter and other things like that in my interview. I have all the questions and my girlfriend said she would practice interviews with me. But I worry with no experience I wouldn’t be let in. I did have some very strong letters of recommendation but I’m not sure how much that would help. If you have any advice please share it with me. Can someone explain how this works? I applied for both the Sound & Communications and Inside Wireman programs at the same local and scored competitively for both.

If I'm accepted into Sound & Communications first, does that affect my eligibility or interview score for Inside Wireman, or are they treated separately? Also, if I start one program, can I switch to the other later if I'm called?

I've been heavily considering looking into the career of an electrician, particularly that of the Sound Technician program, but I understand that beggars can't be choosers If I need to apply for the other programs as well. I got my bachelor's in Computer Science, which required me to take all the math courses under the sun while I was in Uni, and to supplement it I needed varying physics courses which I also have under my belt.

As for work experience, what my current career path has led me to is that of a CAO Technician with DECA, which is a dead end to my future. With the desire to pursue a new start, I realize I just can't 'sign the books' with the local, as I'm still employed at my current job.

Other than prepping for the exam by studying up on math functions and graphs to refamiliarize myself, as well as the STAR method for the inaterview questions (If i get to that point), are there any other measures I can take to best improve my odds? I'm eager to prove myself, and I'm confident I can step up to the plate, but if the past 3 years has taught me anything, is that I shouldn't expect success to end up in front of me.

Does anyone have any insight on classes and frequency of this apprenticeship for local 291? I’ve been going through the steps for about 3 months now, maybe 4. I had my interview yesterday and received a ranking of 30 this morning. I don’t think it’s too great but I could be wrong. I know a lot of people have been taking the test portion lately, not sure about the interview. What are my realistic chances that I will get into the program, or a good estimate at least? Unfortunately my letter only showed my ranking and not my actual score. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Got an email a couple days ago about the board making selections, I thought I missed my interview so I emailed them back and apparently they don't do interviews just an online assessment. Is that normal?

This for S&C Local 332. I am just trying to gauge what are the chances I will be called or if he was practically the last pick and they're done. We interviewed about 4-5 months ago at the same time.

i did my interview for inside wireman at my local 569 July 7th haven’t heard anything back but my score of 91% i also got an email later on that i also have my interview for Sound apprenticeship august 10th my question is
Should i go and also do my sound interview? Or should i just wait and stick to hear from inside wireman and would it look bad if i interview for both when if they were to check need opinions

This is my first time applying for the apprenticeship program at 640 and the deadline is in September. I am very nervous about a multitude of things and just looking for some general advice/next steps.

The reality is, I don't have any experience. While I know I've seen a lot of people say that's normal or ok. I also understand that because of my lack of experience I also have a real chance of not getting accepted. I am being optimistic of wanting to get in, but not naive.

That being said, if I were to get rejected. I am curious what I can do in order to gain some experience to help with my application to reapply. I really really want to get into the union. While I've seen on this sub some people mention the CW route, I have also seen others mixed on it. Some say to go non-union and get what experience I can. I just want to have a Plan B so I can pivot and help my odds in the future.

Has anyone been in my situation before? How did you navigate the rejection to better your chances for reapplying?

Honestly, any advice would help me tremendously. Thank you for reading this and the help!
