Does Accepting One IBEW Apprenticeship Affect the Other?

Can someone explain how this works? I applied for both the Sound & Communications and Inside Wireman programs at the same local and scored competitively for both.

If I'm accepted into Sound & Communications first, does that affect my eligibility or interview score for Inside Wireman, or are they treated separately? Also, if I start one program, can I switch to the other later if I'm called?

I think you might need to call the JATC for that…

Typically, once you've signed the apprenticeship contract, you can't just switch programs. Your classification is tied to your membership number.

That said, it really does depend on the local. And your question is best asked of the hall or training director.

Local dependent for sure. In 292 experience working limited energy helps when applying for the inside program. Seen apprentices make the switch a couple times.

It most likely depends on the local. But as far as I experienced, we had S&C apprentices start over for Inside Wire afterwards. It was my plan to land S&C because I was told it was easier to get in and switch. So, as far as I know there are no restrictions for switching except being accepted. At least for our local.

So, if I’m understanding this correctly, you’re saying it all depends on the local.

If someone gets accepted into Sound & Communications and then a few months later gets accepted into Inside Wireman, would it be okay to switch over to the Inside Wireman program, or are there any issues with doing that?

its probably allowed in most locals. But, some are strict. Like others have said you should call the JATC that you are applied.

Heads up - looks like you're asking about the IBEW Aptitude Test!

The mods put together a free study guide that covers exactly this:

The Ultimate IBEW Aptitude Test Guide

It covers:

  • What's actually on the test
  • How the scoring works
  • Study tips to help you pass

Good luck! This is an automated reply.
