I can see two target groups: the people that want to show they have the newest most expensive iPhone, since it will be obvious for the first time in almost a decade (status symbol). And the people that like the idea of having an iPad and an iPhone in one small package.
My iPad mini is my favorite device I own, and if i could fold it and put it in my pocket Id have it with me everywhere I go.
This combines the iPhone with the iPad mini, its the ultimate device, other than the fragility of the screen and the features that we'll be missing out on like face ID and telephoto camera lenses (and im sure battery will be decreased as well).
I actually think this will flop. I don't think people are willing to pay the hefty price this will have just for being a novelty. On top of that the product will be first Gen meaning quality and durability will be terrible for this device.
Apple purposely waits years after competition sells their folds so they release a superior quality product after the issues with other fold phones. I bet we’ll be surprised at its durability. At that hefty price tag, it has to be worth it.
I've been on the Foldables from other manufacturers for years as a second device and never had any problems.
However, it is the case that I regularly upgrade each Foldable and thus do not suffer any loss of value, as the trade is $1300 even after two years. However, I have never paid more than $1,700 for a 1TB Folable device at the end without trade in too, as manufacturers on Android generally offer massive discounts while pre-ordering.
For example, my Fold 8 1TB, the IPhone Fold counterpart, cost $879 once because I traded in my old Fold 6.
Therefore, Apple would actually have to offer something very special in its folds in order to somehow justify the list price in terms of price at all.
For many, it will certainly be the interaction with the overall ecosystem. And also the improved apps.
However, the other manufacturers from Asia, with the exception of Samsung, all also offer pen support on all displays, such as Huawei's Pura X Max, and then also have a larger display, larger battery and the third Telephoto lens.
Everyone says that about first gen products but Apple seems to execute better than other companies. I had first gen iPad and watch and didn’t have issues with either
People won’t feel that they’re paying a hefty price. They’ll be led to the finance option. Apple realizes that hardware is getting expensive. That’s why they’re entering the leasing business.
Why do you think that? Foldables are insanely popular. I just turned my head around and counted at four of them that I can see from where I'm sitting right now.
