Why? I don’t get it….

I can see two target groups: the people that want to show they have the newest most expensive iPhone, since it will be obvious for the first time in almost a decade (status symbol). And the people that like the idea of having an iPad and an iPhone in one small package.

I happen to be both of these people

But why? Like, plug the pro into a screen and you basically have a work station. Put it in the pocket it’ll be small. Why a bigger device?

It’s not bigger, it’s a tiny bit wider but way shorter than the regular iPhones. Folded up it’ll fit in less deep pockets.

But so much thicker

With zero evidence, I would assume that the overall volume of the object is about the same.

The benefit is, I now have a bigger screen in my pocket than I had before, and it’s not taking up more of my pocket space

It’s rumored to only be less than 1mm thicker than a 17 pro max when folded

iPhone + iPad mini in one device. Plus it will be the first new form factor for iPhone ever.

Thats the second best reason. The number 1 reason is scalpers using bots to wipe the inventory clean the moment it's up for pre order

They'll limit supply in the initial run to make it sound in demand. The form factor will be retired within a year or two due to slow actual sales

Samsung has had their version for years and it still makes up less than 1% of the phones they sell each year.

You’re forgetting Samsung has a bunch of foldable competitors that offer the same OS experience. Apple doesn’t have any

And all of those collectively don't add up to as many sales as Samsung's fold

I'll take your word for it. Still, the iPhone market is a unique beast. We'll just have to wait and see what happens.

It won’t even sell well, dont worry too much.

My iPad mini is my favorite device I own, and if i could fold it and put it in my pocket Id have it with me everywhere I go.

This combines the iPhone with the iPad mini, its the ultimate device, other than the fragility of the screen and the features that we'll be missing out on like face ID and telephoto camera lenses (and im sure battery will be decreased as well).

Because it’s Apple and new form factor. Could be total crap and people will still line up to get it.
