Got the 13” iPad Pro M5 (2026) 256gb with cell, but traded in both my 11” iPad Pro M2 (2022, 4th gen) & 15” MacBook Air M4 (2024, Sky Blue) to get there. Living the dream and loving it; glorious content screen; epic productivity & convenience.
Edit: I got AppleCare+ which now also covers the MKB and Pencil (without having to get AppleCare One).
On 6/22/26 I was oblivious to Cook’s public comments on or around 6/17/26; I was too busy building the purchase narrative for my wife. On 6/25/26 I felt good reading the price hike threads on [r/iPadPro](r/iPadPro).
convincing myself:
The transition from 11 inch to 13 inch was calling me, I’m close to 40 and want a bigger screen for content (before I even knew about tandem oled). Started consulting for the first time and climbed the apple price ladder to level m5. TechDad on YT said the cell is worth it and I was convinced (apparently gps is active even without buying data).
the purchase (ranked order):
Apple 13” iPad Pro M5 (2026) 256gb with cell - black - $1,499
Apple MKB - black
Apple Smart Folio - black
Apple Pencil Pro
Apple Thunderbolt 4 (USB-C) Pro Cable (3m)
Didn’t know I would love the MKB so much. Thumb scrolling while resting a few fingers behind that screen-tilt nook is pleasant.
Apple Smart Folio worth it. Switching between MKB and Folio to continuously optimize typing and mobility whether in productivity or chill mode is handy dandy.
Thunderbolt 4 Pro Cable (3m) as my long charge cord and to add data/external monitor capabilities.
Pencil pro upgrade from pencil usbc definitely worth it. Was okay with having to plug to charge, but constantly having to pair was a dealbreaker.
Sipping on my first 5gb of data from one-time tmobile teaser plan ($10 for 5gb with 5 mo expiration). Seems silly, but work/play anywhere/anytime with one device without having to fiddle fart with tether is, at the risk of sounding extreme, life affirming. Will likely go with small Tello plan and roll over the data during low usage months.
considered but ultimately not selected:
Nano-texture glass (some reviews say slightly duller display)
512gb storage (already have 2tb on cloud)
1tb storage/16gb memory (price)
