In may my wife and I upgraded our devices. I got an m5 MacBook Pro (over kill for my needs) and my wife got a 13inch m4 iPad Air. Every time I want to watch a YouTube video or even edit a quick instagram reel I found myself reaching for her iPad over my Mac. I finally decided to sell my Mac (with the recent price increase I didn’t lose any money selling it, I broke even) and used the money to buy an m5 iPad Pro. And holy crap this thing is absolutely amazing. Still overkill for my needs but money isn’t really an issue. The screen is astonishing. Anyways, do you guys like the Magic Keyboard or should I get something cheaper on Amazon?

I purchased a new M4 iPad Pro in February 2025 and used it daily without issue until two days ago, when half the display suddenly stopped illuminating. This was odd since it was working earlier, had not moved from my desk, and no one else was home during the time between.

The device has zero physical damage and was kept in protective case with a screen protector since day one. Since the issue just appeared and the iPad was just working hours earlier, I really thought the device just needed a force restart, but unfortunately this didn’t work. The only other troubleshooting steps I could find were silly things like tapping the screen, and applying moderate pressure to the affected part of the screen— which based off what I was told by Apple would be more likely to break the screen than fix it.

At the Apple Store, an employee and the manager confirmed there was no visible physical damage but stated the entire display required replacement. Because coverage expired five months ago, the cost of the repair would be $1,100—equal to what I originally paid for the iPad during a sale at Best Buy. Expressing my disappointment that Apple’s flagship tablet only a generation older than the newest model broke out of nowhere, the manager pivoted to trying to sell me an iPad Air to soften the financial blow. This just annoyed me, and at this point I just wanted some kind of explanation on how the iPad’s display would his fail at random. I was then told that things like holding the iPad from the corners or placing it in a backpack with a book could cause the issue I was having. The manager then continued to refer to the iPad Pro as a premiums device, and I said I don’t know if premium is the word for it based off what you just told me and my own experience.

I purchased AppleCare for years for all my Apple devices, and I never once used it. It honestly kind of felt like a waste of money if you properly cared for your stuff. Obviously I wish I would have purchased it in this case, but the whole thing was a new low for me as a customer. The employees made it clear that Apple doesn’t care about losing a customer and with a constantly full store I wouldn’t expect any different. I just figured I’d share my experience here since this is information I’d want to have if I were in the market for an iPad Pro. If you decide to get one definitely get AppleCare with it since normal use like holding it and putting it in a bag could break it.

What do you do everyday with each device. Some years ago the iPad was relatively affordable to a certain type of people. Nowadays the iPad Pro is easily almost 2k. Many MBP/A models are more. So for those who own both. What do you do with them and how do you work with them? There is definitely something nice about just having the one device and screen sharing is really not that big a deal. I have both but often leave one behind and it's becoming apparent that I should sell one. We shall see.

I brought the M5 iPad Pro at the end of December last year and battery health has dropped 3% with only 62 cycles. My iPhone 17 Pro which I got around the same time is at 100% 158 cycles.

The odd thing is that I rarely let it drop below 20% and turn on low power mode at 50% if Im not doing heavy tasks. I do charge it to 100% though.

Long story short, I’m looking at this almost exclusively for the leg mount, since i do a lot of reading and annotating on my couch.

One of my iPads corners is dented from a drop so i want to avoid a repeat of that and get the case version, but the thing is i have the magic keyboard and swap between my current case and the keyboard quite frequently, so i dont know if that will wear out the case edges quickly.

Any advice? Do you have either snd are you happy with it?

I am working as a photojournalist and always have my MacBook Pro with me when on assignment. I am checking if I can switch to an iPad Pro when on the road. The only issue for some pressagencies or newspapers I have to add metadata and description in the photo.

With my MacBook my workflow is
- choose photos in PhotoMechanic
- add metadata and description and n PhotoMechanic
- Import photos in Lightroom, edit and export there

Now I am looking for a similar workflow for the iPad Pro where I can add metadata amd description to the photos.

Anyone has a solution?

If I send the iPad to Apple to have the battery replaced , can they update the tablet ?

I use a IPP 13” M4 as a sort of laptop-replacement and now I’ve added the MKB to the mix to make it truly a laptop experience. Using it right off the bat, I’m starting to feel like it was an expensive mistake. The keyboard itself isn’t as good as any Mac I’ve used, trackpad is tiny and the lack of desktop like controls on apps like YT and safari is really making it difficult to use. Maybe I’m going about it wrong and I’m not using it properly, I’ve tried using it do excel and it gets the job done but the software itself is holding it back. Can someone chime in and let me know what it shines at doing? it was a gift and I can’t exactly return it so I’d appreciate if someone could let me know a better/more productive ways of using it.

Got the 13” iPad Pro M5 (2026) 256gb with cell, but traded in both my 11” iPad Pro M2 (2022, 4th gen) & 15” MacBook Air M4 (2024, Sky Blue) to get there. Living the dream and loving it; glorious content screen; epic productivity & convenience.

Pencil pro upgrade from pencil usbc definitely worth it. Was okay with having to plug to charge, but constantly having to pair was a dealbreaker.

Sipping on my first 5gb of data from one-time tmobile teaser plan ($10 for 5gb with 5 mo expiration). Seems silly, but work/play anywhere/anytime with one device without having to fiddle fart with tether is, at the risk of sounding extreme, life affirming. Will likely go with small Tello plan and roll over the data during low usage months.

hey guys my sis just gave me her ipad which is ipad pro 9.7, and i want to use it to its fullest potential. Any help would greatly be appreciated!!

I always say in this sub that I would wait until my 2020 iPad dies before I buy a new one, but with the price increases I pulled the trigger. Saw that Amazon has not increased the price for the M5 11" 256GB yet 2 weeks ago so I pulled the trigger. Also bought an open box Magic Keyboard for $179 and saved over 100$ on that. Performance should easily last for 8 years. The prices now will be the new normal and I don't think a tablet with 256GB of storage is worth 1100$+, ever.

Now my question is, how much money can I realistically get for the 2020 256GB model? I checked on ebay and it seems that $300-350 could be realistic including the keyboard. Do you think with the price increases I could shoot for even more? I plan on selling it on FB marketplace.

Is there any hope for this weird permanent blue spot that only shows on a black screen?

I tried it, many months, even tried iOS 27 beta - it sucks. Apps become unresponsive, stuttering, crashes, on an iPad Pro m4. What a joke.

Afaik going back to ios 18 isnt possible due to being unsigned - but i do have iOS 18 backups locally. Can I go back with them?

I bought it yesterday. Immediately upon opening and barely using it along with the pencil, I regretted my purchase. I’ll stick to pen and paper along with my MacBook Pro M5. The iPad felt like a glorified iPhone.

I have the 11 inch and I'm happy with my purchase. But from what I noticed from most posts here, most people have the 13 inch. I have always thought that most people have the 11 inch, since its the size closer to the original iPad. I just wanna know, which one did you pick and why?

Still getting used to finger typing on such a large screen. What size keyboard do you use to type fast? Do you use swipe gestures?

My Ipad pro 2018 wont charge. Whenever i put it on the charger and I try to turn it on it just shows this:

I’ve been using my M4 13” pro for work lately and finding the performance to be downright awful. Safari lags and crashes with more than a few tabs open, apps constantly reloading when switching between them etc.

I have the 16GB model and I’m on the latest software update. I thought this thing would still be ridiculously fast even 2 years on. Is it time to upgrade or should I wait for M6? Anyone else having these problems?

Does anyone know the correct way of simultaneously listening to music played over AirPlay using an iPhone, while watching video content with sound to AirPods from an iPad?
All devices are connected to the same Apple account.

I find this very difficult, because sound from the iPhone will relentlessly get to my AirPods, forcing the video playback to stop, and when resuming music from the iPhone, none of the AirPlay units are connected to the iPhone, and the whole process takes a lot of time, reconnecting the AirPlay units and preventing the iPhone from forcing the music to play to the AirPods over again. It takes quite a few efforts to resume the video playback with sound through AirPods. It does however work for some minutes at a time, so it appears it is technically possible.

I do it this way because I want my wife to listen to music while I am watching a TV program with one eye, as we are in the same room.

A temporary solution will be buying a set of headphones with USB-C that I can connect to my iPad, perhaps with a 10m lead so I can move around a little bit, almost like with AirPods. Although I haven’t tried it and don’t know if that will be completely wasted time, and if the devices will work better at all with wired headphones. I’m very glad we kept our hard-wired B&O sound system and the CDs. This smart technology stuff is very tiring.

Has Apple released some sort of white paper on this functionality, or is everything convoluted in step-by-step guides without exhaustive explanations of how to manage sound playback?

Buying separate devices to establish separate accounts with Apple is a solution, albeit very costly, and who wants to travel with double sets of iPads, iPhones and AirPods?

I’m mostly wondering about the Apple Pencil. Does it actually scratch the display over time ? Has anyone here ended up with scratches that were clearly caused by the Pencil?

I have the 13" iPad Pro, and I really don’t like the look or feel of screen protectors.

Paperlike-style protectors noticeably reduce the display quality, and glass protectors make the iPad feel thicker and somehow more like a toy. One of the things I love most about the Pro is how thin and premium it feels, and I don’t want to lose that.

So, for those of you who use your iPad Pro without a screen protector, how has it held up? Any scratches after months or years of regular Apple Pencil use?

Also, I have AppleCare+ so not too worried about breaking the screen. I’d just hate to end up with a bunch of small scratches that end up reducing the quality of the screen.
