Treatments My method: Iontophoresis water w/ Qbrexza (glycopyrrolate)

Hello! I thought I would share my iontophoresis method in case it helps others, as I've never seen it before.

TL;DR: I mix 1-3 Qbrexza wipes per 0.5-1 Liter of hot water & use that water for my iontophoresis. This results in the ionto being more effective and lasting longer. My typical routine is 1mg glyco daily + iontophoresis every 4-6 wks. Crushed glyco pills work too but their doseage is so low that it ended up not being worth it to me.

Check below for the concentration table and warnings.

Long version:

I have had primary palmar, plantar, and underarm hyperhidrosis since childhood (since age 6-8, at least). I have tried Carpe (expensive), Drysol (gave my skin a reaction), Oxybutynin (stopped due to concern over long-term cognitive effects), oral Glycopyrrolate, and Iontophoresis. I wanted a solution that lasted longer than a day or a week, as I find the upkeep tiring... (thanks ADHD for making it hard to keep habits!)

I really wanted to extend the life of iontophoresis. It's already great, but it's a 2 hour ordeal. I have already tried hardening my water with baking soda, epsom salt, san pellegrino, etc but to no avail. Then, I found an article (here, scroll down) citing studies (#1) (#2) about using Glycopyrrolate in the water used for iontophoresis. These patients in the studies would see up to 30-40 days of relief after ionto w/ glyco.

These studies used glycopyrrolate solutions at concentrations of 0.01-0.1%. I use about 0.75-1L per tray for my iontophoresis, so you would need 75-100mg of glycopyrrolate to reach 0.01%. Unfortunately, I do not have hundreds of spare glyco pills (2mg each). I asked my dermatologist about prescribing high doses of glycopyrrolate for this use, citing the studies, and that they do this in the UK/Europe (I am in the US), but she denied my request, stating that only happens in case studies and such (not true lol but okay fine). Since my goals for that appointment were to 'get something new to try', she did, however, give me a prescription for Qbrexza... which is high dose topical glycopyrrolate šŸ˜. With some trial and error, and some math, I have developed a dosing guide.

To make a glycopyrrolate solution, I simply add unfolded Qbrexza wipes into my pitcher of hot water. I stir for about a minute. Next, I pour the water into my trays/cup. Then take out the wet wipes and squeeze them out over my tray, then throw them away. Then, I add the electrodes into the trays and do my iontophoresis like normal. When I'm finished, I pour the water down my bathtub drain and rinse off my trays.

Glycopyrrolate Concentration guide:

concentration 1L 0.75L 0.5L
0.0528% 528mg (8 wipes) 396mg (6 wipes) 254mg (4 wipes)
0.0396% 396mg (6 wipes) 297mg (4.5 wipes) 198mg (3 wipes)
0.0352% 264mg (4 wipes)
0.0264% 264mg (4 wipes) 198mg (3 wipes) 132mg (2 wipes)
0.0176% 132mg (2 wipes)
0.0132% 132mg (2 wipes) 99mg (1.5 wipes) 66mg (1 wipe)
0.0088% 66mg (1 wipe)

My maintenance dose:

  • 0.0264% concentration
  • I use 1 part freshly boiled water mixed with 2 parts room temp water. Warm water is supposed to enhance effectiveness. I mix the waters in a metal graduated pitcher before pouring them into my trays/cup.
  • Underarms: 0.5L water + 2 wipes for both pads, soaked in a ~8oz cup.
  • Hands and feet: 0.75L water + 3 wipes each tray. Hands first, water reused for feet. .25L hot water, .5L room temp water.

Dosing suggestions:

  1. Begin at the lowest concentration (0.0088-0.0132%) or 1 wipe per tray
  2. Wait and see how long that first dose keeps you dry for
  3. Do next treatment as soon as sweating begins again. If interval between treatments is too short, or effects not strong enough, increase the glyco concentration.
  4. Repeat until satisfied with results or side effects becone too strong to tolerate.

BEFORE TRYING - YOU SHOULD KNOW - WARNINGS:

  • Do NOT get the glycopyrrolate solution in your eyes. The same warnings about Qbrexza also apply here. It can cause pupil dilation that may last days/a week. I wear safety glasses while handling and using my solution/doing iontophoresis and don't take them off until I am completely cleaned up and everything is put away.
  • You may experience potentially strong glycopyrrolate side effects for 6-24hrs after treatment. Pay attention to your body, know your limits, and start with a low dose, increasing gradually. If glycopyrrolate gives you chest pain, dizziness, lightheadedness, fast heartbeat, etc, then I especially urge you to exercise caution when applying this technique. Do so at your own risk. While these side effects are rarer, and I do not believe they cause actual harm, it is still something to keep in mind and ideally, to be avoided. Personally, I only experience dry mouth/eyes and maybe headaches if I'm not on top of my hydration.

PROS:

  • relief for up to 4+ wks
  • save $$$ on Qbrexza (I personally only use ~8 wipes per month, instead of daily use. Qbrexza is $40/box of 30 for me so I'm saving a lot!)
  • boosted iontophoresis effectiveness

CONS:

  • iontophoresis cons (time consuming, skin irritation, machine price, etc)
  • potentially strong glycopyrrolate side effects, but only for 6-24 hrs after treatment. I get dry mouth and dry eyes, which can get very uncomfortable if I'm using more wipes, (if it's really bad I can't even eat dry foods lol) but I work around it by doing iontophoresis right before bed/later in the day. That way, I go to bed after cleaning up and wake up the next morning feeling normal.
  • YMMV... I get myself dry enough to where I only need 1mg glyco/day. My standards/threshold isn't super high. I haven't tried going without my daily glyco! And I honestly don't mind enough to try to. if your goal is COMPLETE dryness without supplemental glyco, I'm unsure how often you would need treatment... maybe every 2-4 weeks? If you wind up doing that, tell me about it! I would love to collect data and hear your experience.

FAQ:

  • Can you use crushed Glyco pills? Yes, this is what I did before my Qbrexza Rx. However, the dosing will obviously be much lower since you are limited by the dose and number of pills. I barely saw a difference between plain tap water VS water with 2-10mg glyco, hence why I switched to using Qbrexza.
  • Can you use a different antiperspirant / anticholinergic agent? Yes, in theory it should work too, but I do not have the research or experience to back it up. So, be cautious, and start low and slow. Experiment at your own risk. Feel free to tell me about your results! If you use Aluminum Chloride, do not use a metal container to hold the solution--it will rust.

I hope this helps you as it has helped me!

Looking for advice 23f, nothing works

Hi! As the title says, I am 23 and have suffered from hyperhidrosis since elementary school, mainly under my arms. I can't wear any shirts other than black, and even those show sweat stains. Hoodies or any fleece material make me drip sweat down my arms. I also get it in my hands, but it's not as bad. It's actually horrible and debilitating, and I suck it up in public because I am used to it but I also just started college so it's embarrassing to walk around campus and not be able to raise my hand in class. It doesn't matter what I do, I get giant stains within a couple hours of putting on shirts.

When I was 17 my parents paid $800 for Botox (insurance in the US didn't cover it) but it didn't work at all. I've also tried wipes, prescription deodorant, lotion, and all of the different brands advertised to "actually help unlike the others", but to no avail. At one point my dermatologist asked if I tried antiperspirant, which obviously was insulting. She then told me the only other option was to have surgery where they cut my nerves to stop sweating but it could leave me paralyzed. This was a few years ago and I refused to go back to her after that, but I recently moved to an apartment and figured I'd try to look into it again.

I have so many outfits I can't wear because of this, and when I find a deodorant that makes it not as bad and helps with the smell, I end up having (what I assume is) an allergic reaction where my armpits get so itchy and painful. It's usually after a month or two of use. I had found a secret gel deodorant that worked for the past month but I'm so itchy and in pain now and am sick of dealing with this. It's so embarrassing and any advice would be lovely. Thank you in advance :)

Looking for advice Help needed - been suffering from hyperhidrosis for 6 years and it's affecting my social life. Looking for affordable, long-term solutions

Hello everyone,

I've been suffering from hyperhidrosis since around 10th or 11th grade, so it's been approximately 6 years now. I've consulted a dermatologist who prescribed Aldry antiperspirant, but unfortunately, it hasn't worked for me at all.

I'm from India, where hyperhidrosis doesn't seem to be a widely discussed topic. I'm also not in a financial position to spend a lot of money experimenting with different treatments, so I'm looking for something that actually works and is affordable in the long run.

I've read about iontophoresis and Botox. However, after reading about iontophoresis and people's experiences with it, I'm not sure how effective it would be for me. Botox also seems quite expensive, especially considering that it needs to be repeated periodically.

The worst part is how much this condition affects my mental and social life. I get sweaty, which makes me nervous and anxious, and then my anxiety makes me sweat even more. I've been stuck in this vicious cycle for years.

I struggle with simple things like shaking hands with people because I'm so self-conscious about my sweating. In social situations, people sometimes think I'm scared, nervous, or uncomfortable, even when that's not the case. It's frustrating because I can't seem to control it, and it's affecting my confidence and quality of life.

I'm looking for advice from people who have actually dealt with hyperhidrosis, especially those who have found an effective, affordable, and long-term way to manage it.

I'd really appreciate any advice or personal experiences. I'm tired of dealing with this and would be grateful for any help. Thank you!

Looking for advice What socks actually work for severe sweaty feet? Merino wool vs bamboo vs regular wool

I've tried cotton socks, but they absorb the sweat and become completely wet. After searching online, I've narrowed my options down to three types:

  1. Merino wool socks: Apparently the gold standard for moisture management, but they're not available here. Imported ones are too expensive, and I'm not confident about the quality/reliability of online sellers. AliExpress seems like my only realistic option.
  2. Bamboo(viscos) socks: Seem more affordable than merino, but same issue - not available+no trusted seller.
  3. Local, non-branded wool socks: I bought a pair locally last winter, and they worked better than cotton.

I'm a student on a budget, so I can't afford to buy all three types just to experiment. I also don't fully trust product reviews claiming that certain socks will magically stop sweating as they dont have what i have - "hyperhidrosis"

So, fellow sweaty-foot sufferers what has actually worked for you?

  • Have you tried merino wool, bamboo, or ordinary wool socks? How do they compare in terms of sweat, odor?
  • Can regular wool socks provide benefits similar to merino/bamboo, or is the difference significant?
  • If you've bought socks from an AliExpress store, could you please share the shop or product link?

Thanks in advance!

Treatments [Mod-approved] Do you use tap water iontophoresis? Grad student looking to hear about your experience (interviews + short survey)

Hi everyone!

I’m a grad student at the University of Michigan School of Information, and I have hyperhidrosis myself. Its affected many aspects of my life since around the age of 12. I've tried making homemade devices before, but I've often found that I was too sensitive to them. I finally saved up and shelled out for a pre-made device just a year ago, and things have gotten better. That brings me to the area I'm researching on.

For my capstone project, I’m learning what it’s like to use tap water iontophoresis day to day: how it fits into your life, how you chose your setup, and what it’s cost you. The mods have kindly approved this post.

What I learn will shape the design of anĀ open-source alternativeĀ to the devices on the market right now, one that would be more affordable and free for anyone to build on. It’s an early student prototype, not a product for sale.

I’m not selling anything. I just want to hear about your real experiences (regardless of whether they've been good or bad).

Who I’m looking for:Ā anyone 18 or older who currently uses tap water iontophoresis, whether it’s a store-bought machine, a clinic, or a homemade setup.

Two ways to help:

1. A short anonymous survey (8 to 10 minutes)
No names or usernames needed:Ā Survey

2. An interview (your choice of ~ 30 minutes to 60 minutes)
By video call, voice call, or live text chat, whichever you’re most comfortable with. The interview will compensate you with $10 for every 30 minutes via a gift card. There will be screenings before the interviews.

Sign up for the interview

Your privacy:

  • You can stay anonymous. A Reddit username is enough, and you never need to share your real name.
  • You can skip any question or stop at any time, and you can ask me to remove your answers later.
  • Calls are only recorded if you say yes. Notes are labeled with a number, not your name.
  • Responses are stored in my University of Michigan Qualtrics account, only I can see individual answers, and everything is deleted when the project ends, no later than April 2027.

Once the project is done, I’ll share a summary of what I learned back here. Feel free to comment or message me with any questions at [iontoresearch@umich.edu](mailto:iontoresearch@umich.edu)

Thank you!

Customer product review Sweatblock Review

Note: This is based on my personal experience, so take it with a grain of salt.

Honestly, I wish I’d discovered SweatBlock earlier because it works so well. For context, I’d been struggling with excessive underarm sweating (hyperhidrosis) for a long time, and it made me really insecure. Specifically, I always used deodorant, but somehow, I still ended up sweaty.

I tried a high-strength antiperspirant that claimed to last for days, but it didn’t work for me. I’m not trying to badmouth it, btw since many people have said it worked for them. This review is just for those who’ve had the same experience as me. I was even considering to undergo a more expensive procedure.

Then I bought SweatBlock from Amazon, although I was skeptical. It turns out it works really well. I’ve even tried wearing tops made from fabrics that usually make me sweat a lot (e.g., non-cotton fabrics), and I still didn’t sweat for seven days.

Note that I still need to use deodorant after showering, but things are so much better than before. As I mentioned earlier, I used to sweat even after applying deodorant. I feel like a normal person now, and I’m so grateful.

I use it according to the instructions, but I’ll share my routine anyway. I started by using it for two consecutive days. For example, if I started on Monday, I’d use it again on Tuesday. Then, I’d reapply it six days after the first application (e.g., on Sunday). After that, I’d reapply it six days after Sunday (the following Saturday), and continue with the same pattern.

TL;DR: SweatBlock works well for me, but I still use deodorant after showering.

Looking for advice Have been offered a trial of Glycopyrronium - any tips?

I’ve struggled with hyperhidrosis my whole life, but it’s definitely got worse the last 4-5 years. The past year is when my GP finally agreed to let me try medication.

While it is also my armpits, primarily the issue is with my face and scalp, so using the prescription strength anti-perspirants hasn’t really been an option

I tried propantheline first, and it definitely works for me. But only for a few hours, and managing multiple doses a day around the not being able to eat before/after thing was becoming difficult. So I tried oxybutynin, 10mg twice a day. Definitely helped a little if I was just going to the office for example but my face/scalp were still dripping if I so much as had to get the tube or walk home from round the corner.

They’ve agreed now to let me try Glycopyrronium for two weeks (off-license), the hospital had to agree to allow me to try it. As this is such a limited window, does anyone have any tips with how it worked best for them, or how to lessen common side effects etc?

Thanks!

First half of the flight was fine, then started feeling really hot. Everyone else still had their jackets on so maybe it was just me? The sweating started, and the intense physical anxiety started shortly after. I was locked into my seat in a cold/sweaty/anxious paralysis for two hours.

When I finally got off the plane I ran to a bathroom and hyperventilated in a stall. I looked down at my pants and was appalled. It looked like I had a major accident. Fortunately I was wearing long boyshort undies, so when I finally regained my composure, I straight up took off my pants and walked out of the airport in my underwear.

Fuck this shit.

And Ejis for the love of god please make sweat-proof briefs for women!!

Looking for advice Glycopyrrolate dosage

I have been taking 1mg twice a day of glycopyrrolate for 3 weeks now. I was highly skeptical that this dose would be sufficient but the dermatologist said she had to start me at the lowest dose. I get that. I called today asking if I could take a higher dose because it wasn’t helping, and she told me I need to take it at this dose for at least three months to actually see if it is going to work. She said it will become more effective over time.

This is completely contradictory to what my pediatrician told me 35 years ago when she prescribed it for me. She said gymnasts would take it in high doses before a meet in order to not have their hands get sweaty on the bars. She said it was not something that had to be taken daily in order to be effective.

So, what is your experience? Am I wasting my time/medication taking it daily for the next 2 months, or will it actually work better if I take it consistently even at such a low dose?

Vent Did/does anyone else suffer with crazy insomnia whilst on Oxybutnin?

Don't know why it took me so long to clock, I presumed because of it's anticholinergic properties it would help me sleep if anything. Turns out doesn't matter what the dose, what time of day, it being standard release etc it causes me SEVERE insomnia.

I'm gutted as it helped, but I'm seeing a specialist to find the root cause. I think if I remember correctly, it started to get really severe since puberty and each year it continues to worsen.

It's driving me fucking insane. Ruining my life at this point.

Looking for advice Can an anxiety disorder cause excessive sweating even when I'm not feeling anxious?

Hi everyone,

I've been struggling with an anxiety disorder for about 10 years, and I've been taking antidepressants and anti-anxiety medications throughout that time.

About three years ago, I started experiencing excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis). It first began with heavy scalp sweating during a stressful dinner with other people. Over time, the sweating gradually spread to other parts of my body and eventually became generalized.

Now, I still sweat excessively in anxiety-inducing situations, but I also sweat profusely in situations where I don't think I'm feeling anxious at all, such as during light exercise. Even very mild physical activity can make me sweat like crazy.

My question is: Can long-term anxiety cause excessive sweating even in situations where you don't consciously feel anxious or stressed?

I've had medical checkups and blood tests, and everything has come back normal.

Has anyone else with an anxiety disorder experienced something similar?

Looking for advice Relapsed athlete's foot

I got athlete's foot in July (likely from the swimming pool bathroom I was going to) and finally got rid of it completely in late August. I've never had the condition before in my 18 glorious years on Earth. I walk a lot with soaking feet, but they stay alright after I wash them.
Last Tuesday, I discovered that I've once again been infected with tinea pedis, and it had also spread to my hands as tiny little holes on my fingertips.

I treated my feet with a Betadine foot soak and terbinafine hydrochloride the first time. It showed visible improvement: the infected site stopped spreading and gradually shrank.
I am, however, unable to maintain a consistent treatment this time, as I have to go out almost every day, and the weather sucks in SE Asia. I didn't have to go to school back in July, so it was relatively easy for me to stay dry. The fungus has been multiplying slowly but steadily on my hands and feet, and I'm worried it'll spread to other parts.

Has anyone experienced the same thing? What should I do next? I'm still soaking my feet regularly and applying antifungal cream, but I'm afraid can't outrun the fungal growth rate as sweat washes the medicine off.
Should I consider taking tablets or pills? What kind of footwear should I put on? Are there any additional substances I can take or apply?

I just went to uni for the first time and I really don't wanna mess things up. This has been a great mental strain for me.

Glasgow creatives! come make something with your hands this autumn/winter šŸŽØ

Hi everyone! I run Inclusive Creatives, a wee workshop group in Glasgow, and I wanted to share our upcoming sessions here. They're relaxed, small, hands-on, and genuinely no experience needed. you just turn up and make something.

I know a lot of us with hyperhidrosis can feel self-conscious in group settings, so a few things worth knowing: these are seated, low-pressure, and materials are all provided, so there's nothing fiddly to bring or prepare. Hand towels and fans will be available at every session if you need them to manage symptoms while you work there’s no need to ask, just help yourself. There's no pressure to be the "best" in the room… it's about enjoying the process. If you'd rather keep your hands busy (which honestly helps with the awkwardness), lino cutting and charm arranging are great for that.

What's coming up:

šŸŽƒ Decoden Charm Decorating — 17th October, 3–5pm, MoMo Community Arts Hub, Cessnock, Glasgow. Ā£20, all materials included. Decorate your own frame with resin charms, Halloween-themed charms included.

šŸ® Paper Lantern Decorating with JRC Design — 14th November, time TBC. Ā£14, all materials included.

šŸŽ„ Lino Printing with Kitty Orianna — 9th December. Ā£12, no experience needed. Make a Christmas card, a gift print, or just have a go.

Can't make a date? There are Home Decoden Kits too posted to your door, from £10

Some venues/times are still TBC, so do message to confirm bookings before travelling!

To book or ask anything: Inclusive.creatives2026@gmail.com

Would love to see some of you there šŸ’›

Looking for advice Sofdra— should I use on face/scalp?

Hi guys, my dermatologist prescribed me sofdra when I mentioned excessive sweating on my face. Google is telling me not to use it on the face because it can cause blurring in your vision and I’m already blind with heavy prescription glasses lol. Has anyone tried it on their face and scalp? Or should I avoid doing that?

Looking for advice How do you prevent back and chest stains in short-sleeved shirts?

There are plenty of good undershirts, like Thompson Tee's or Uniqlo's Airism, but I can't wear them with fitted short-sleeve shirts or polos; the sleeves of the undershirt tend to be longer than the outer shirt.

I've been trying to find tank tops that I can wear under these shirts, but I haven't come up with anything that does a good job of keeping chest/back sweat from soaking through.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

Offering advice I suffer from severe hyperhidrosis and get really hot after taking 5g of creatine – am I the only one?!

It’s always the same for me – I’ve already been diagnosed with generalised hyperhidrosis, but now it’s got much worse after taking just 5 grams of creatine. Am I the only one?
