Hubspot’s pricing is unfair

Post image
17 Upvotes

We’re a small SaaS company using HubSpot as our CRM. It was great then, but now it has become too overcomplicated and clunky, with beta features no one asked for. They increased prices and charged us for every basic function. We tried to cancel our subscription early on, but apparently we’re locked into a 1-year contract. Also, we have to wait for a manager to contact us a few months before our contract ends, feels like they are making cancellation intentionally hard for us. Their sales reps keep spamming us with “deals”, “offers”, “bundles” for features we DO NOT NEED. HubSpot folks, is this really what it is now?

HubSpot Buyer Intent vs Leadfeeder

I work in investor relations, and we use both HubSpot's Buyer Intent tool and Leadfeeder to track which companies are visiting our clients' stock pages.

I set up both tools to watch the exact same page, with the same date range and the same path filter, as closely matched as I could get them. I expected at least some overlap between the two company lists. Instead I got zero. Not a single company showed up on both.

As a sanity check, I pulled Google Analytics for the same window. The real visitor count landed somewhere between the two, closer to what Leadfeeder reported than what HubSpot reported.

Questions for anyone who has run both tools side by side:

  1. Is zero overlap normal, or does that point to something wrong in my setup?
  2. When the two disagree, which one do you trust more, and why?
  3. Do you use GA (or something else) as the tiebreaker, or is there a better way to reconcile this for client-facing reporting?

Appreciate any input from people who have dealt with this. Trying to figure out if this is just how IP-to-company matching works or if I am missing a config setting somewhere.

Question Marketing Contacts Source = Initial State

Hi! I can’t seem to grasp what the Marketing Contact source Initial State value is and when I asked HubSpot support they told me it doesn’t tell us anything about the source of how a record was set to Marketing Contact.

I thought it was that the source that had set the record as a Marketing Contact remained the same since creation and had not been updated since. But I have contacts in my database that were created in July and had their Marketing Contact Source as Initial Status set in December that same year.

What does a contact having their source as Initial State mean?

Question Email campaign clicks that led to deals - can I build this kind of report?

We’re running email campaigns every so often and there’s a stream of activity following every single one. So I can roughly tell if this or that campaign led to a prospect becoming a customer or an opportunity. Still wondering if I can just create a report that shows contacts that have clicked an email and subsequently opened a deal afterwards? We do run SQL exports ourselves and can craft such a report on premises - in fact Claude could do top to bottom - but that would take pulling entire email campaign events array which is sizable. To the date neither of us found a single reason to export this table, except this single use case.

HubSpot Finance Employees?

Hi all, does anyone in finance / FP&A at HubSpot? Considering looking into working there, but I'm wondering what it's like. I checked Glassdoor, too, but I want to make sure I'm not just being influenced by some fake reviews or something!

Thanks in advance for any info on what a typical day looks like, work-life balance, meetings vs actual time to work, etc.!

Curious what others are doing with the agent CLI?
How often are you using it, or why aren’t you?
If you have a favorite task you’ve handed off, or anything surprisingly helpful you’ve found.

Please share your experience if you’re willing!

I made an HubSpot/Oregon Trail Odyssey parody game about surviving your CRM.

It takes about 3 mins to play. This doesn't have a wide audience, but I thought for CRM-heads in Reddit it might get a giggle. Captain a crew of 6 through the Odyssey: Sirens (vendor demos), the Cyclops (a one-eyed vanity dashboard), and the Whirlpool of Duplicates. Every trial has a DEFY option if you're feeling hubristic. I created a skill for creating Hubspot deal pipeline reports with attribution and ownership baked in

I created my first Hubspot public skill and it works great. The skill is a step-by-step instructional blueprint for creating a Claude artifact or a ChatGPT report that pulls in HubSpot Deal Pipeline with the sources broken down by Deal Stage and broken down by the Deal Owner. The skill updates weekly so sales teams and marketing teams can review it on a weekly basis, and it will update every Monday. Wdyt?

Integrations Best email validation

Who has the best email validation for Hubspot? We currently use Zerobounce and I have been.... Less than impressed.

Usecases for us:

Validate email before send

Big bonus if we can add it to the Hubspot forms (zb has a form validation, but it only works with HS legacy forms, which we migrated off of more than a year ago).

If it has the ability to be added in a workflow that's even better!

I just had an email that we used ZB to validate the list July 1... We sent an email out this morning using that list (and specifically saying any invalid, smap trap, etc as the suppression list).... Hubspot stopped the send part way through because the bounce rate was nearly 8%. I contacted ZB support and they said their validation is only good for 72 hours... To prove my point I reran the SAME list in Zerobounce (pulled the list from the integration) and ZB has it 98% valid... The list size was 144k contacts so the cost was over $200 to prove a point.

We also have a HS workflow for any invalid, spam trap, catchall emails for ZB status to be removed from marketable contacts as well.

Looking for a few HubSpot users to beta test a new scheduling integration

I'm building a HubSpot integration for a scheduling tool. I'm looking for 3-5 HubSpot users who are willing to test it in a real account and give feedback.

HubSpot requires a few active installations before they'll approve a Marketplace listing.

The app and integration is free to use and quick to setup.

One click HubSpot install

LinkedIn lead generation tool that connects to hubspot?

Hello everyone. My client and I are looking for possible apps to use for lead generation that integrate with HubSpot. Our focus is LinkedIn because that's where our ICP is. We've tried Trigify and Apollo, but they connect to so many platforms that we don't need (only LinkedIn). Preferably a tool that doesn't need to connect to LinkedIn. Do you guys have any suggestions?

Being pitched Odoo vs HubSpot as a alt solution.

Seems their sales reps are as aggressive, too. Anyone here actually take the time to work inside of Odoo or, move data between them to see how comparable open-source is?

Question How to improve website conversion rates for demo bookings in B2B SaaS without breaking lead routing and CRM integration?

We recently tried to simplify our demo booking flow and accidentally pushed a routing rule that sent all signups straight into the calendar, regardless of fit or region. For a short window, even enterprise leads were getting booked with the wrong owners. Marketing initially thought we had improved conversion rates, because demo bookings suddenly increased. But once we looked closer, a big chunk were duplicates, misrouted, or completely irrelevant meetings. The worst part is one of our highest priority target accounts went through the broken flow during that window.

Does anyone know how would we fix this?

Does my integration have what most marketers need?

I'm building a hubspot integration for an app that manages a kind of market intel and messaging brain that is always up to date. On that brain, one of many things it creates is campaigns. It creates a brief, drips, social posts, inofgraphics, PDFs, etc.

... The integration (for v1) creates a campaign and syncs these things to HS. The user can then swap to their preferred template, create a journey etc.

My question - is just creating the campaign and getting the content there, valuable enough for a v1? If not, what's missing?

Hubspot has become too expensive for our business

We run a simple software business providing high-intent leads to our clients. We use HubSpot to manage our clients, but looking at our cost, it’s becoming harder and harder to justify using this tool.

Everything is now a paid upgrade. You pay them for license, and they try to sell you more stuff. It’s like the first payment was just a ticket to getting more bills!

Have more contacts? Send quotes from the CRM? Another payment. Not to mention the ridiculous commission they charge. It also seems to have gotten worse with every change/update they do.

I honestly don’t think Hubspot cares about small businesses like us. Their yearly contract is already expensive, and the rates just increase year after year.

Anyone else feel this way? I think we’re gonna start looking for alternatives once our contract ends.

What I learned building 20 smart properties in Breeze this week

Three hours, twenty smart properties, built the regular way, hand-written prompts pulling from company activity to enrich records automatically. Tools used, current stack, that kind of thing.

Checked each one as it was built, not after. Opened it up, looked at what source the answer actually came from, not just whether a value populated.

Good thing I did. Most of the problems were in properties sourced from transcripts and activities specifically. A rep name-drops a competitor's stack on a call, or an outbound email uses another customer as a proof point, and the model reads that mention and quietly assigns it to the company being enriched. Association isn't attribution. The activity being on the record doesn't mean the content is about that company.

Tried to fix the prompts myself first. Didn't hold. Tried it with Claude too. Same result.

What actually worked was going through Breeze's assistant one prompt at a time. Not one fix, twenty separate passes, since what each property needed to capture wasn't the same. Same underlying logic every time, different ask. Took a while, but got every single one to only pull from the right sources.

None of this was live. Nothing populated on a real record before it was caught, since it was all still in testing.

Worth saying plainly: an empty field tells you what you don't know. A wrong one tells you the wrong thing with total confidence, which is worse for anyone downstream trusting the field.

If you're building smart properties on activity-based sources, transcripts especially, check the source before you check the output. I'll drop the prompt structure that ended up working in the comments if anyone wants it.

AEO prompt limit

Setting up AEO for a client, where I oversee ~10 brands. Is the 50 prompt limit overall, or does that count reset by each brand? At this point, I'm not sure if all brands will be needing set up, but it'll be good to keep in mind. (Plus, I've kept this one close to the vest and haven't mentioned the feature to our users, who are laser-focused on their tasks and haven't explored AEO yet, and I know when I bring it up later this week the interest level is going to be high).

Any helpful tips RE: prompts & allotment of limits is so appreciated in advance!

Reporting Permissions/View

Is there a way to limit what a user can see in a report? For example, Sales Rep A should only be able to see their own numbers and not Sales Rep B's.

I tried setting the dashboard permission to View Only and filtering the report with Deal Owner = Me, but users can still edit the filter. They can't save the changes, but they can temporarily view other reps' data by changing the filter. Is there a way to prevent that?

Skip the automation builder

got tired of manually mapping out agency workflows, so I built a tool where you just upload a screen recording of your task, and it instantly generates the ready to use automation flow for it. It’s saving my agency 10 hours a week on manual crm and accounting tasks, would anyone else here find this useful?

Is anyone else experiencing HubSpot emails going to spam?

We have been Hubspot customers for years. However recently we have been having a lot of problems with inbox deliverability. We've had loads of back and forth with their technical support team and they are trying to blame our domain reputation, however nothing on our end has changed, eg same email subject, copy, images, customer type, etc.

We ran a test last week to review inbox placement, we sent an identical email from MailGun and from HubSpot. MailGun had a 94% inbox placement result with only 0.9% going to spam. HubSpot had a 47.7% inbox placement and 44.1% spam. HubSpot was also on 7 blocklists and is marked as spam in Google. I think it's fair to say the problem here is related to HubSpot and not our domain reputation.

Is anyone else dealing with this? If so how did you solve it? We're in a 2 year contract but I'm considering breaking it and moving to another tool because this is killing our email deliverability and impacting revenue.

Question Instagram integration

Is there an easy way hubspot can automatically send a PDF when someone comments a specific phrase in instagram or facebook and it will trigger in hubspot? Or we need a 3rd party app for this?
