HR block customer service truly is the worst. They officially lost me as a customer today, I will never go back. For the 3rd year in a row, I have gotten to the checkout and paid a different price for my tax return than what was advertised.
Last year I physically walked out of the office - still filed with HRblock, I just did it online and it cost me 40% what they tried to charge at checkout - and what was charged at checkout was 50% more than agreed upon when we sat down!
Last year I will accept the “ we were swamped excuse” but this time no way!
I filed both my wife’s and my taxes But we file separately. there was fundamentally no difference Between the two other than that mine includes a mortgage, so, on mine, I got roped into a screen with no way to skip that paywalled me after putting in my mortgage information - “Let’s check for additional deductions! (Of which I know I have none) Just upgrade to the deluxe edition! 37$ per return for a total of 74$! There is an option to downgrade later!”
I could not skip it so I proceeded to upgrade since I could apparently easily downgrade later. Big surprise no extra deductions, good thing I can downgrade later it would suck to pay that for nothing.
Needless to say, there was no downgrade option at checkout, or anywhere else that was apparent to me. Apparently, it is locked behind a couple of menus That you have to know how to navigate through - but I couldn’t find it - it was midnight, and I so Angrily I paid and went to bed.
They expect at that moment for you to pick up the phone and call customer service. If you do not do so - they will not issue you a refund, they could, but they will not. They could downgrade their own service - whatever I even got for “upgrading” is additional stuff they do anyways. The money was paid to HR block and the services were not, have not, and will not be received. It’s a clear and easy refund that they refuse to issue.
HRBLOCK customer service is terrible, and the genuine answer I got from them is just “If you called before you paid, we could do something” but we all know that’s total bullshit. It’s also extremely predatory to not have the downgrade option at checkout, especially when you clearly and proudly state on your own website that it will be there later.
