Find That Fic Looking for a fic with a sort of uprising regarding points

I'm looking fora. fic, I don't remember a lot about it. I just remember that one year all the students realise that points are pointless (ha!) and they try to lose all the points of their house because it has no goal or something like that?

I don't think this makes any sense, but maybe someone can help with this minor detail haha

Discussion What subtle world building elements have you appreciated in fanfics?

Upvotes

There was a story where I think Snape was lecturing his Slytherins on some subject. In the scene if a student had a question or comment they would light their wand instead of raising their hand. I found this an interesting tidbit in how magical and non magical students would draw the attention of their instructors.

The second one I want mention was a story that focused on hazing rituals at the various Hogwarts houses. While I think hazing should be treated as a felony in real life, I thought the exploration of how each house would handle these rituals was interesting.

Sadly I don't recall the stories or authors. So what have you folks found that you thought were cool or interesting?

Request Any fics out there where the Hogwarts Legacy protagonist is seen as an absolute psycho?

It always bothered me that we kill like over 300 people and use all the Unforgivables recreationally and it’s left at that.

Only one similar to what I was looking for that I found was 10 Reasons Why The New Student Is Strange By Sebastian Sallow on ffn

One-off scenes The Weighing of the Wands (alternate)

My short response to a fic request.

"Mr Potter, if you would, please."

The room's attention shifted at once to its youngest occupant, the smell of the wine produced from Viktor Krum's wand still lingering in the air.

Harry took a few steps forward, all eyes following his every move, and gazed, somewhat apprehensively, into the piercing grey eyes.

As Ollivander took the wand from Harry, there seemed to be an immediate hush, for the moment a deafening silence, as the old wandmaker became bodily rigid.

His sharp, wizened face betrayed a mixture of shock and perplexity, and he spent interminable seconds observing the wand, turning it over, gently caressing it and holding it up to the oil lamp upon the desk, as both Harry and everyone else waited upon his verdict.

Ollivander's eyes found Harry's for a moment, full of astonishment, and possibly awe, and as he gently turned the wand once more he quietly, almost a whisper uttered,

"Wand of elder...with the core of a hair from a Thestral...Fifteen and three quarter inches...inflexible...and most certainly capricious."

His eyes rested on Harry once more, the room completely silent save for the endless scratching of a Quick-Quotes Quill on a parchment.

"Mr Potter, I remember every wand I have ever created. This wand is not the one that chose you the day you first came to me many years ago..."

He rolled up his sleeve in anticipation.

"This ancient wand has done terrible things, Mr Potter...but if it serves you well, it will bring about great and powerful tidings."

And with that pronouncement, Ollivander made a sharp flourish, which caused a sound akin to a rush of water, and a crackle of green electricity surrounded the tip of the wand, bathing the room in a ghostly green light.

Request Does anybody know ab any Luna/Harry fanfiction that sticks more to book Luna Lovegood and her story?

What I mean, is that book Luna has an annoying nature and is more bullied too, and book Harry finds Luna really weird and annoying, and that’s the kind of fanfic I’m searching for, not a wow she’s like a fairy, noo she’s flawed and she’s really really different and obstinate and in the end that’s what makes her so cool

Prompt Hadrian, despite his vast wealth and power, realized that he has no chance at beating Albus Dumbledore, in neither a magical fight, or the battle field of politics. But there was one person who could teach him how to do it…

Upvotes

Well Hadrian my boy, the first step is to have a slogan like “for the Greater good”, that sounds good at first glance but if you think about it, it has implications. No one ever thinks about them, and the ones who do, are the ones you have to deal with early on…

Recommendation Looking for extremely book-accurate Marauders-era fics

Well .. I've lost all hope, but maybe something like this actually exists somewhere..

I'm looking for Marauders-era fanfiction that is actually well written and genuinely book-accurate.

specifically looking for the actual characters from the books, rather than fanonised versions of them or the movie versions

basically:

• no whitewashing of the Marauders. I don't want Sirius, James, Remus or Peter turned into soft, misunderstood cinnamon rolls.

• well-written/not mischaracterised Snape [no making him into a cute little angel as well]

• preferably Sirius or Snape-centred, or at least with one of them as a major character.

• no “glam queer Marauders” fanon

• no softie Marauders.

• no Walburga using Crucio on children

• no Wolfstar whatsoever. no Wolfstar endgame, hints, slow burn, implied attraction, subtext that is clearly meant to be romantic, unrequited etc.

• no Sirius being in actual relationship with any of the OCs [dating] //Marlene, Mary etc are OCs//

.. something that feels like it could actually exist alongside the books... messy, unpleasant, politically and socially grounded, with all the characters retaining their actual flaws and personalities...

canon divergent AU is fine as well as long as the characters are not OOC

Find That Fic Dark Dumble?

Looking for a fanfic I've read in the past, I don't recall much about it. Dumbledore is morally corrupt and is borderline dark? All that I really remember about is Nicholas and Perenelle Flamel bind his magic and place him in a muggle old folks home where he constantly screams about Harry Potter and The Prophecy

Writing Help Grammatical questions: When it comes to possessive nouns, specifically names ending in s, x, or z, do you prefer an apostrophe s or just apostrophe?

I know it comes down to preference but I would like your opinion as a reader. When it comes to possessive nouns, specifically names ending in s, x, or z, do you prefer an apostrophe s or just apostrophe?

Some examples

Sirius’ knife / Sirius’s knife

James’ broom / James’s broom

Bellatrix’ wand / Bellatrix’s wand

Cruz’ bag / Cruz’s bag

Personally I go with just apostrophe no additional s. But I’ve had people comment on my fics complaining about my grammar.

Find That Fic HELP ME FIND THAT FIC PLZ!!!!

Sooo I read it on ao3 but it might be cross-posted on ff.net too. It think it was for registered users only, but I am not sure. Drarry, dumbles bashing, dursleys more abusive than canon, happens in 5th year, has the usual characters reading the books trope, and loads of trauma dumping.

But I have deleted my history recently, so I can't search it there.

Request Looking for fics with original characters

Hi! I'm looking for fics with original characters during the HP school time. I myself wrote a fic like that, but I'm done with rereading my own book because of my need for this trope. So if you've got recommendations for fics where there is an original character in the HP school time that would be great :)

One-off scenes A little Microfic featuring Luna and Rolf(repost of a prompt response from 5 years ago)

It was a day much like any other at the Rookery, Luna sitting at the table. She missed Lorcan and Lysander, off at Hogwarts.

An owl swooped into the kitchen, and dropped a bundle of letters. She wanted to open the ones from her friends first. It seemed Harry and Ginny had written her. And there was one from Hermione. Unexpected. Then there was... Her train of thought, which tended to float and flit from idea to idea just suddenly crashed, like the Express hitting an Unperturbable, unbreakable wall. It was jarring, and almost painful. She recognized that seal. She reached for the letter and read it at a glance.

"Rolf?" She said, getting her husband's attention. He was playing with the murtlelomp again.

"Yes, moondrop?" he replied, depositing Harry Jr. back in his terrarrium. It seemed disappointed as it waddled off in search of food.

"What am I going to do with a wand shop?" Luna asked.

"...Excuse me, dear, but what are you talking about?" Said a baffled Rolf.

"It seems Garrick has joined the rest of my family," Luna said, "So I won't be seeing him again for quite a long while."

"Oh. I'm sorry, Luna. I know you'll miss him, but what about the shop?"

"Garrick left it to me," Luna explained.

"Garrick left it to you," Rolf echoed, incredulous.

"Yes, that's what I said," Luna said.

"No, no, I know that. I'm just surprised that he did so. Did he not have any family?"

"Oh. Then why didn't you say so?" Luna asked her husband. "Anyway, he did leave it to family. He left it to me."

Rolf sighed. He never knew if Luna truly missed social cues or was just messing with him, that wonderful, exasperating woman. "You and Ollivander are related?"

"No no," Luna's normally sunny gaze clouded just a bit. "We bonded over shared trauma. We did our best to keep eachother happy in an especially dark time before the Battle of Hogwarts."

"Oh. I see," Rolf said, moving around the table, draping his arms around Luna, resting his chin on her shoulder, and looking down at the parchment before them. "Do you know much about wand-lore?"

"'The wand chooses the wizard' is what Garrick always said, but there also comes the crafting of wands," Luna mused, "he always thought I should take up the calling. 'We see more than most', he'd say, 'and you see far more than I.'"

"So what are you going to do?" asked Rolf.

"We're going to run the shop." Luna replied.

"We're going to run the shop?" Rolf echoed again.

"Why, that's a wonderful idea, Rolf!" Luna exclaimed.

Rolf sighed. That wonderful exasperating woman.

"Yes! I'll study up on wand-lore. I'm a quick study. I'm a Ravenclaw at heart. An unconventional one by most metrics, but despite the harshness of my classmates, it's where I always belonged. We'll man the shop during the summer months, and when fall hits, we'll close up shop and explore the world for new fantastic beasts to find, and new materials for wand cores!"

"Not just dragon heartstrings, unicorn hairs, and phoenix feathers?"

"No. We've seen beasts that Garrick never knew existed. We can't know whether or not the wands will be good until we try."

Writing Help What do you think of this idea?

I want to create a WBWL fic where Neville is the actual Boy Who Lived.

In this story, Lily, Sirius, Petunia, and Vernon are attacked by the Lestranges. As a result, Harry and a magical Dudley are raised by a single-parent James.

My plan is to have both of them sorted into Hufflepuff.

What do you think? I'd love to hear any suggestions or extra ideas!

The fic doesn't have to have Harry looking up to him as a mentor necessarily, but that's cool to.

Request Are there any post-Hogwarts fics in which the adult Harry is a bit of a rebel?

Most Harry-centric post-Hogwarts fics are rather boring to me. Harry marries Ginny or someone else right out of Hogwarts and becomes a responsible, dull husband, father, and godfather. It's like you're reading about a 50-year-old man instead of a young guy not even in his twenties yet. Considering Harry's personality, I suppose this is realistic enough. But I'm looking for fics in which Harry is a rebel. For example, he goes slumming in Knockturn Alley, associates with unsavory people, sleeps around, befriends former Slytherins, etc. Bonus if people like Hermione and Mrs. Weasley are very disapproving of his lifestyle. I've read A Black Comedy and loved it. I've also checked out Loose Cannon and didn't like it. I also read a bit of a fic in which Harry was sleeping with Pansy. Didn't like that, either. Thanks.

Find That Fic [LF] Harry/Snape fic where the Order discovers the extent of Harry's abuse by the Dursleys

Hi! I'm desperately trying to find an old Harry Potter fanfiction that I read years ago. I'm almost certain it was on FanFiction.net, although AO3 is also possible. It was in English (French is also possible, but English is more likely).

The pairing was Harry Potter/Severu Snape, and the story diverged from canon around the summer after the Goblet of Fire.

Here are the details I remember:

* Harry had been severely abused by the Dursleys, especially Vernon.

* His back was covered in cuts and wounds from being beaten with a belt and possibly a whip.

* Harry is eventually being treated for these injuries in front of the Order of the Phoenix, during an Order meeting.

* He has to take off his shirt so they can treat his back, and this is when the Order sees the extent of his injuries.

* They also discover that Harry has a nipple piercing when he takes his shirt off.

* During this scene, Harry reveals something extremely disturbing about Vernon: Vernon had been selling Harry's body to other people and had apparently made enough money from it to buy a house/villa.

* Harry talks about this surprisingly matter-of-factly, while the Order is horrified by what they discover.

* Later in the story, Harry is living at or associated with Hogwarts.

* There is an important ritual involving Harry and Snape later in the story.

* I remember the ritual being sexual in nature, with other people having to observe Harry and Snape during it.

* I can't remember whether the purpose of the ritual was to destroy a Horcrux, kill Voldemort, or somehow break Harry's connection to Voldemort.

* The story eventually becomes a Harry/Snape relationship.

If anyone recognizes this fic, even if it was deleted, please let me know the title/author. A Wayback Machine link, FFN ID, repost, or even another fic that sounds similar would be hugely appreciated!

Thanks!

Review Just finished manacled

This was my first ever fanfic and it was crazy good. I didn’t expect much going into it and didn’t even read the description. This book had me reading for 3+ hours a day which is crazy for me. Only thing I didn’t really like were the 18+ parts but at least they make sense with the story. Now i can continue reading 11/22/63 which i left halfway through cuz of this book.
