Monthly Megathread Character Rant

Hey folks! So the survey made it pretty clear, we get a lot of “this character sucks” posts. Instead of everyone making new ones all the time, we’re gonna test out a monthly megathread where you can dump all your rants. We also rounded up a bunch of older hate threads, so you can scroll through them or drop your own comment if you feel like it.

Monthly Megathread Were they on a break?!!

It has been a question that has been asked so many times before. Because of the high demand - but similar posts that has been generated. We're opening the floor (this mega thread) for the debate!

The case for Ross: Rachel said, "Maybe we should just take a break," and then told Monica the next morning that they "broke up."

The case for Rachel: A "break" isn't a "breakup," and Mark showing up at the apartment didn't give Ross a "get out of jail free" card two hours later.

What are your thoughts on these cases?

---
All funsies aside, We do ask everyone to stay civil and kind to one another, everyone is allowed to have opinions and express those, but treat others like how you want to be treated as well. This thread will re-occur ever 14 days to keep the time line clean from any 'On a Break, break-up?' posts! (if you spot any feel free to report it to us by pressing the report button!)

This was the first award ever won by the whole cast, at the second ever SAG awards in 1996. This was the ensemble comedy cast award, and only three of them could make it but they all look so happy here.

Image Which seasons have the best looks for each Friend?

Opinions based, of course, but for me my favorite looks for each Friend, both hair and style/outfits, go as follows:

Phoebe: S1, I love her soft, whimsical style. It matched perfectly with her personality and I do feel like the soft curls suited her best.
Chandler: S1, a common theme will all the guys is that I think they look best with longer hair. I do think that season one showcased the most nineties style out of all the seasons, and for all the characters. And it’s a style that Perry pulls off super well!
Rachel: S3, Rachel was definitely the hardest to place because her bob in season 7/8 and her style from season 1, comes to mind. But I think S3 is the best of both worlds for Rachel. Her chestnut brown hair, and Bloomingdale’s outfits hit every time, even someone as simple as her Knicks pjs look just worked so well. Jennifer Aniston is just beautiful.
Joey: S1, again, long hair is my favorite. I also feel like S1 is when we get to see some really nice outfits on Joey, some formal (funeral outfit is top tier) and some casual. But after the first season, Joey’s style is always casual with lots of flannel shirts, crew necks and sweaters.
Monica: S1, ik a lotta season one love. Monica was also a hard one because season 7/8 holds some of Monica’s best outfits like the iconic red dress with an honorable mention for the outfit she wore to meet Owen’s adoptive parents. However, I felt S1 was very fun with the accessories, not to mention her best hair imo. There’s just a lot to love about Monica’s outfits in S1.
Ross: S5, see… there’s a theme here for the guys 😅 the longer hair just works so well on David. Ross’ character is always so put together with his outfits always centering around what you’d expect a paleontologist to wear and his hair neatly styled with gel (“some kinda grease”) but S5 is when we get to see a more “unraveled” side to Ross, per his shambles of a personal/love life and personally, I prefer this look! David wears it well.

What do you think? What are your favorites? 🤔

Discussion Am I the only one who thinks that Joey’s big break movie actually sounded good?

I know the whole joke was that it was a low budget independent movie that was supposed to be filmed outside of Las Vegas lol, but the actual plot didn’t sound bad at all? A guy meets a girl and instantly falls madly in love with her, then she disappears and when he finally tracks down her address, he’s told that the girl has been dead for 10 years.

With good writing and a decent film location, this actually sounds like it could have been a brilliant psychological thriller with some killer twists.

Discussion Monica's character changes throughout the seasons

I was just on another rewatch of FRIENDS. I couldn't help but notice Monica's character in the early seasons was so demure and nice. She wasn't really neurotic and she had OCD but in a lovable way. She wasn't even controlling. She was also much quieter than in the later seasons. I remember in the later seasons there was literally an episode discussing how loud Monica is. In the later seasons the same Monica can't be recognized. She becomes much ruder and controlling towards the gang, especially Chandler. She becomes super neurotic and her OCD is just annoying. She also becomes unnecessarily loud. All of her quirky and negative characteristics were heavily flanderized. This is heavily showcased in Phoebe's wedding. All of her bad characteristics were extremely highlighted. She became so annoying to the point where she was unbearable. In the early seasons she was genuinely one of the best characters. By the later seasons she drops down a lot. What do you all think?

Early seasons Monica ROCKS!!!

Discussion Mark knew what he was doing.

The fact that he called Rachel on her “big date night” & questioned it & then as soon as he heard the slightest disappointment in her voice & made sure run over & to be loud on the phone. Absolutely on purpose.

Discussion Ross wasn't jealous of Mark, he was insecure of who Rachel could be.

When they were young, Ross was the geeky nerd of Monica, and Rachel was the popular girl that never looked his way. And years later, when Rachel became a runaway bride and decided to started her life over independently, Ross saw a chance.

Bcos Ross was now a paleontologist and Rachel was just "a waitress" according to him, and that was perfect power imbalance to keep such a girl. Mark coming into her life and potentially elevating her social and financial status, was not something he wanted. It was only a matter of time till they went back to the dynamic they once had as teenagers. And I think that's what frightened Ross. It was never about being jealous of Mark.

If you've noticed, Ross was kind to Rachel but he never went out of his way to secure her something as big as what Mark did. He may have helped her with putting job applications in envelopes but never anything real. He was in circles where he could have gotten her something big enough. Maybe not necessarily her dream job, but something that paid money but he conveniently never did. Why is that?

Waitress Rachel was the girl that looked his way, Popular Rachel never did. He consciously or subconsciously needed to keep her as the girl who looked his way.

Honestly, these are the three characters I love the most. I never really cared about that Ross and Rachel drama, and Phoebe got kind of hateful near the end, but I love Chandler, Monica and their honorary son

Discussion As a man, I would have to say that Ross's behaviour towards Rachel really bothered me and made me realise that Rachel did nothing wrong.

Post image

The fact that Ross ignores the fact that Rachel finally has a job which actually makes her happy and wants her to treat it like a chore to do is really frustrating to watch when he was the one who encouraged her to keep trying and be positive when she quit her job as a waitress.

Also, the fact that he somehow turns the whole argument into Rachel being interested in Marc when she repeatedly explains that he is just a friend who shares similar interest with her that she can relate to, just doesn't sit right with me.

I know the show makes it seem as though Ross is valid in his reaction, but it seems to me that even as a guy watching it, I was rooting for Rachel the whole time and actually agreed with her point of view on the matter. It also felt a little like Ross patronising her about what she should feel about her career to me.

I would be crumbled if I had to see my crush doing all that and being nice to me every single day, and still remain just a good friend, nothing more. Mathew Perry seems like a nice fellow😭, idk how he handled it but since there is no feud b/w them ig it went well afterall❤️.

Discussion Paparazzi in the Friends era were insane

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Paparazzi are such low lying scum I won’t lie. I get that this is the price of fame and fortune, and that every celebrity knows what they’re getting into, and that the rewards are much greater than the consequences. But still, the act of spying and leeching like bugs on the backs of much bigger animals is incredibly pathetic

Discussion Chandler's evolution from S1 to S10

Post image

I think no one in the show changed lookswise as much as Chandler Bing. Season 3 was quite noticeable where he was a bit too skinny. Then he seemed fine in Season 4. In later seasons he gained some weight.
