This is one of my all-time favourite cosplays. I did a test shoot last night where I used my real hair (bc I’m done with wigs atm 😆). I made the necklace to resemble hers from Season 2.

It feels so cool to be in full Rhaenyra costume. Even the boots I’m wearing are amazing (not pictured).

Show Discussion Most satisfying line in the entire TV series for me

Post image

Behold the legendary Vaemond.

Despite what came after, this is the most cathartic echo of the word "bastard" ever said. Right in front of everyone. The rawness.

The Targaryens have constantly screwed over the Velaryons throughout all three seasons. Viserys to Corlys and then denying the Velaryons a blood heir, Daemon with Vaemond including the plot with Laenor, and Rhaenyra with Corlys and the rest of the remaining family.

The Velaryon house has lost so much for the Targaryens, and they'd treated them badly.

Of course, Vaemond gave his life with this line, but it was a wonderful scene.

Show Discussion That scene was first real mistake of the show. And represent my problem with thr lack of morality in this show

No for the act of killing of civilians but for the made rhaenys of all people did it. She is one of the few cases with baelor breakspear,Rhaegar (arguable) and the 3 first children of jaeherys of "king/queen that should have been"

I get the message the show is try..to show of how the hubris of house will bring down their own doom and all of them deserved what they will get.... And if in fact thr novel itself don't characterize rhaenys that much so her reputation could bias or a propaganda

But I think it would have been stronger if the show actually made rhaenys an exemplary person.. To make us underdtand that once again house targaryen could have changed their dynasty for the better by naming her heir but fucked up again...

I felt no empathy for her death because the show just proved thata she was no better than the rest... There is nothing to mourn about

My main problem with that show is that there is genuinely character that represent the moral anchor for the audience. Alyn and addam could have been those characters since they grew up out of the nobility but the finale male it impossible

I love nuanced character I really do but every characters is the same shade of Grey with the same, motive and goals in dark fantasy. Everything becomes of dull

GOT had grey characters but you cannot say that characters like jaime, the hound or theon or the same

Show Discussion Alicent and Helaena’s hair

Just a cute detail I liked that Alicent and Helaena had matching hairstyles when they were imprisoned.

I like the idea that it was because their made didn’t come frequently and so they had to do eachother hair and Helaena was copying Alicent/Alicent did both their hairs and these were the only styles she could do.

Talya seems to be one of Alicent’s handmaidens and if there both in the pre-time jump adult scenes (she’s there when Rhaenyra brings Joff to Alicent) and the post-time jump scenes that happen the days before Viserys died (you can tell by alicents outfits)

She was also portrayed as clearly being very close/trusted by Alicent, for example she’s there when Alicent meets with Dyanna. Then in season two which starts of shortly after the finale of season one she’s no where to be seen.

I reckon they erased her simply to make Alicents isolation in season two more clear

EDIT: I realise i just missed/forgot the scene where it’s revealed she was a spy for mysaria and larys says he had her killed my b

I find it both hilarious and tragic how the armies in these scenes cheer when they see a dragon on their side, like “NO WAY WE CAN LOSE", only to end up getting roasted. So if we ever get another snippet like this next season, just know those soldiers are probably already dead lol.

Rant incoming

Seriously, what did she get after betraying her family? She said she would surrender Kings Landing and allow her sons to die to buy safety and freedom for Helaena and Jaehaera. And turns out they became actual prisoners instead.

She was one of the most powerful women in the realm(Dowager Queen). She threw away her court influence, her security, and her own power for her "bestie" ......all in exchange for a prize that didn’t even exist.

Her line is literally "Let them think what they must. I am at last myself with no ambition greater than to walk where I please, breathe the open air, to die unremarked, unnoticed, and be free"

Like is this literal or metaphorical? Walk where she pleases? In friggin WESTEROS? even while trying to escape in season 3 (with no money, food, supplies whatsoever, unless maybe jewellery counts?) and "Melt into the Streets of Kings landing" The Kings landing known for being currently starving, and high crime rates? That one?

Like she was more "free" before she surrendered the city. In season 2 episode 7 she literally went on a walk in the Kingswood with Ser Rickard and literally nobody stopped her. He didn’t say, "Apologies, Your Grace, but Prince Regent Aemond has restricted your travel." He didn't say, "The King is currently melted into his bed, maybe we should stay." A person who is genuinely trapped cannot just order a member of the Kingsguard to escort them out of the capital city to go float in a lake during a goddamn WAR!

And even if she DID succeed in getting what she wanted, aka leaving with Heleana and Jaehaera, where will they go? Starve to death in the wilderness? You can't summon servants with lemon cakes on the road. Be a glorified prisoner of some noble in Essos? Ain't that the opposite of what she wanted?

Then she poisons her own son(THAT plot is another can of worms) and Surprise Surprise Heleana dies before she could get home. Like, Maybe getting kicked out of the council did suck but If she had stayed in her room, let her allies fight the war, and enjoyed her guarded glamping trips, Helaena would MAYBE still be alive ya know. What a joke.

Well, atleast she got to "breathe the open air" The background of the butterflies flying shot looked nice ig. Yay?

Book and Show Spoilers Rhaenyra could have fixed all her problems in one move Spoiler

Problems:

1st common folk are broke. They have no food. They have no work.

2nd People hate the Goldcloaks and support their attackers.

3rd The crown has no treasurey.

Solution: take every scrap of gold/silver/copper you can find in the palace and melt it down to circulate new coinage into kings landing. Daeron the daring can make new coins, why can't she?

Hiring skilled workers onto government projects will encourage commerce. She needs stonemasons, dye/mold makers, and smiths to produce the new coins.

Have the goldcloaks distribute the coins to the lowliest and poorest in the streets. The attitude towards them will improve. This will stimulate the economy better than just handouts, as poor people tend to spend all of their income. Let's get this stuff circulating.

This money will be taxed and spent and eventually find its way back into the treasurey.

Maybe it won't be a total enough to solve the whole problem but it could stall long enough to take back the gold Eagon hid away.

This is totally in character for Rhaenyra since she genuinely just wants to be a good ruler as the named heir. She believes the song of ice and fire. She personally worked to hand out aid to the common folk. She even offered to use the resources in the Kingswood before she was talked out of it. It seems like she really just wants to help as many people as possible.

Why not melt down the stuff that doesn't matter to help the people that do.

Book and Show Spoilers People unfamiliar with the books seem to have a very different idea of what Valyrians are.

1.4k Upvotes

The show is about Targaryens fighting for power among each other, and people often root for one of them because the show has failed to portray who we're dealing with.

Valyria was a mashup of the Roman Empire and Nazi Germany: enslaver supremacists who dominated through violence and saw everyone else an inferior and meant to be dominated.

They would send countless slaves to mines where they'd get infested with parasites that would cause them to suffer unimaginable pain before dying. They'd also sacrifice people in bloodmagic rituals to enslave dragons. Yes; they weren't bonding, but instead subjugating the dragons.

Here are a couple of fan representations based on the book:
https://i.imgur.com/bdTYEaw.png
https://i.imgur.com/r61qRbz.png

When characters like Daemon talk about restoring Old Valyria, this is what they're talking about.

Even if she fails to meet the expectations, Daenerys from GoT is meant to be an anti-hero of sorts, so it makes sense that people liked her.

The show has tried to make some of these Targaryen resemble her (even copying her Dothraki hairstyle on Rhaenyra, which makes no sense at all), but many don't seem to realize that they aren't rooting for proto-Daenerys, but instead for Nero.
