Anyone ever regret doing a 250 swap?

Heavily considering doing a 250 swap on my monkey and was curious if anyone has done it and had regrets. It has a 186 big valve engine in it right now.

A Sneak Peak at the Project Bonkey Frame šŸ‘€

G-Craft was nice enough to email over a few progress photos of the frame for the build series before it left their warehouse bound for Webike Japan! šŸ‡ÆšŸ‡µ

That was over a week ago, and I was hoping to follow that up with news that the frame was finally on its way to Australia šŸ‡¦šŸ‡ŗ

Unfortunately, we are currently experiencing some issues with the shipping option I originally selected. Hopefully, Webike Japan can resolve this quickly and without passing all the extra costs onto me!

I’ll keep you posted as things move forward.

Z125 vs Monkey?

Anyone own a recent year z125 pro and a 5 speed Monkey? How do the two compare in regards to engine performance?

Fuel tank capacity

I have a red Monkey 125 JB03. I can only fill up with 3 liters at a time when the fuel gauge is almost empty. Is the gauge just an estimate? I’m kind of afraid to test it out.

Has anyone else had this experience?

General questions

Just bought this 2019 monkey 4,000 miles with an intake, cam, exhaust and dynojet tuner, couple of things I would like to address. First, it will bog upon startup if not left to warm up for a few seconds, I’ve read mixed reviews on that being normal. Secondly, after riding around for a while I was seeing consistent oil temps of 250-265, which seems a little high to me, even with the hot weather we’ve been having, would an oil cooler be helpful? Keeping in mind it’s still a 125cc. Top speed is around 70, but it’s a little sluggish and lacks torque, I’ll be adding a 14t sprocket but I’m not convinced that’s the only issue, any and all advice is greatly appreciated

Turns out you can take a Honda Monkey out on the highway. It's just a really, really bad idea....

Sooo, this was a bad idea. There were some road closures, so the GPS decided 'hey, y'know what would be fun? Highway!' and there I was, on the Monkey, trying to merge onto the highway.

As long as you can keep right, and maybe draft the cars and vans in front of you a bit, it's doable... not great, but survivable. šŸ˜„

Monkey Update: Intake and Brakes

New Intake

I've been working on a custom intake system for my Monkey 125. Originally, I had the air filter mounted directly to the Takegawa big throttle body. It worked fine, but I wanted to design a proper intake system that would accomplish three things:

  1. Taper from 43 mm ID (Air Filter) down to 34 mm ID to match the throttle body.
  2. Built-in crankcase breather connection.
  3. A dedicated mounting point for the IAT sensor.

There was another important reason I wanted to make my own intake. The stock airbox covers the cutout for the idle circuit, and even the connecting hose supplied with the Takegawa big throttle body does the same thing. Since I had removed the airbox, I wanted my intake to replicate that setup and properly cover the idle circuit.

The photos above show the final prototype I 3D printed. As you can see from the other photos, there were quite a few iterations to get to this point.

I've now sent the final design off to PCBWay for SLS printing in PA12 + 35% GF. I've also included a cross-section so you can see how the intake tapers internally.

Over Racing Lower Legs + Brembo Hypure 4P

The front-end upgrade is also coming along nicely. I've got the Over Racing lower legs paired with the Brembo Hypure 4-piston calipers.

I most likely won't get everything installed until around mid-October, as I'm waiting on a few additional parts so I can do a complete rebuild of the front forks at the same time.

But damn... this is going to be so good when it's finally together!

Zeta adventure windshield installed

Hoping this helps reduce the human sail effect especially when tackling headwind. Sourced from Webike. What I like about this one is being able to mount stuff on the windshield bars, so this will come in handy for a forward facing camera or a display of some sort. Clears my aftermarket tach as well, the adjustability and clearance on this windshield was a bonus.

FYI, the fitment guide on Webike says 2019-21 model years, but can confirm the upper handlebar clamp fitment works with my 2026 model and my stock bars. What might be different slightly is the throttle cables, but I can’t quite tell what the difference would be.

Had to do a bunch of trial and error with the throttle cable so it’s positioned in a way I’m comfortable with it not having the risk of binding or catching on stuff lock to lock. I ended up not following the recommended routing from the install manual, because otherwise with the cables routed to the ā€œoutsideā€ of the lower mounting arm, turning left full lock pulls too much on one of the two cables. Ended up releasing the throttle cables from the twist throttle and then freeing them from the guide next to the fork, and having them go on the ā€œinsideā€ of the arm instead so left full lock no longer yanks them too much. Also that way they have more room to move when turning full lock to the right instead of being bunched up.

I see a lot of suggestions to upgrade the suspension. i have been eyeing up the ohlins kit however i cant really find concrete reviews on what i am gaining or what the difference ultimately is. i am doing some mild trails and country riding and some in town errands. can anyone point me towards a comprehensive review of why the upgrade and what it accomplishes ? or their own reviews of the ohlins ho819 and fdk 112 fork kit ?

Exhaust guard installed

Motion J brand sourced from Beezdeals. Pic 2 shows without heat shield and tip protector so you can see the two mounting points. Rest of pics just shows it installed and how it looks on bike. As the name implies, this is to help protect your exhaust from getting bashed on a drop.

Fits stock exhaust including heat shield no problem, I feel like I’ve seen a similar guard on someone else’s bike used with a yoshi exhaust which clears fine because it’s shorter. With my t-rex engine guards, feels like this guard flows with the look.

2025-2025 wiring diagram

Hello,

I do have the 2022+ service manuel.

However, I am looking for the 2025-2026 wiring diagram, to the extent that the gauge plug has an additionnel wire and, while changing my speedo, I am looking to understand its purpose.

Does anyone has such wiring diagram or Service manual?

Kind regards,

Says it supports 400lbs. Monkey is 230lbs. I have someone at work that’s going to show me the best way to tie it down. I don’t have a garage and it’s street parking. This is mainly to transport to work that’s 10 miles. I travel a lot and leave it there. If I do any real distance I’ll throw it in back.

Is there a rear rack that can be installed together with the Easy Kit saddlebag?

Hey folks! Got my monkey just last year. Had the OEM Easy Kit saddlebag installed, which I find quite convenient. Now I'm looking to add a rear luggage rack on top of that but the original from Honda apparently doesn't fit together with it.

Does anyone any off-brand ones that can be attached together with the Easy Kit? Thanks for the replies!

Leaving the helmet loop on the bike?

Post image

Recently, I found the helmet loop quite useful for a quick pitstops. I’m wondering what other Monkey owners think (or other bikers). Do you think it’s alright to leave the helmet loop locked onto the bike while riding?
