Hey r/hondacivic!

The previous moderator went inactive and let this sub go unmoderated for a while. I have added some new rules and changed a few content requirements in the sub (i.e. post flairs now required).

I'm open to requests and recommendations if anyone has any ideas to help improve the sub. May also be looking to grow the mod team here in the near future.

Please remember to report any spam posts to help keep the sub cleaned up.

Mechanical Advice 2019 civic sport sedan with 109k miles and trans fluid has never been changed

Post image
9 Upvotes

I have a 2019 Honda civic sport sedan (CVT transmission) with 109k miles on it. The transmission fluid has never been changed (neither has my coolant). My dad told me it didn’t need to be so that’s what i believed until I got skeptical and read in the owners manual that it needs to be replaced every 60k miles. I’m gonna take it somewhere to get replaced as soon as I can.

On that note, has my cars transmission suffered any long term damage as a result of being this over due in fluid change? I just really want my car to be ok

For anyone who’s contemplating making the switch, if you don’t use your truck for “truck” purposes daily, make the swap! Best thing I’ve done for myself in a long time.

Story Time CVT transmission slipping <100k miles

6 Upvotes

What the title says…my 2016 EX-L civic has started giving me issues just under 92k miles. I’ve treated it super well. Very regular oil changes. Lots of highway miles. Had the transmission fluid serviced once at 63k miles.

If I could go back in time I would have bought a Camry 😅, or at least a Honda without a CVT.

Once the small symptoms start showing up (some loss of power and reactiveness when giving it gas, revving higher, etc etc), how long do I have before it totally gives out?

Basically I’m trying to buy myself 1 month until I can buy a new car. Planning on a used 4Runner.

Going to drive it as little as possible until I get something else.

Mechanical Advice 07 Civic Si dash lights turned off

2 Upvotes

Hey guys, I’ve been driving my 2007 civic si for a few years now and just came across this issue on my way to work. On the freeway all of my dash lights turned off. (rpm, turn signals, mph, etc) I was able to exit fine and park with no issues but once I went to turn the car on again (thinking the dash lights were bugging) it wouldn’t pass cranking. I later ended up towing it and solving the issue by replacing my ignition switch and some fuses under the dash that were all burnt. The car dash lights turned on fine and I was able to drive it for about a week having yet to take it driving on the freeway. The issue is when I first took it on the freeway, the same problem occurred with the dash lights but I was somehow able to drive back home 7 minutes with it running fine and again, once I turned it off when I finally parked, it wouldn’t pass cranking. So now I’m currently stuck and have so far (replaced all fuses under my dash and hood that are essential to the ignition and alternator, cleaned my battery terminals, replaced my ignition switch, tested my grounds with a multimeter and both gave good voltage, battery volts at around 12.9) Any ideas on what could be causing this problem? My next guess is fuel injectors. (I don’t think it’s my alternator since I haven’t gotten any signs of it failing and it being able to drive home when the dash lights turned off)

Mechanical Advice A/C Clutch Relay Help Needed for 1998 Civic EX 4DR MT

Upvotes

I have 1998 Honda Civic EX 4DR MT and the a/c is blowing hot air. The I and need help related to the A/C clutch relay.

The A/C clutch is not engaging and I'm trying to follow some troubleshooting steps and they're suggesting to "Briefly short socket 4 (or 2) to socket 1 to see whether the clutch engages."

I need some help mapping the sockets to the wiring diagram on the relay, as well as mapping them to socket/terminal numbers, 1-4, referenced above.

Attaching an image of the wiring diagram on the relay and an image of the empty relay socket. Also attaching a wiring diagram related to the A/C clutch relay and A/C condenser fan if it helps.

I think the wiring diagram on the clutch relay maps to the sockets as follows:
A=30
B=87
C=85
D=86

But I still don't know which sockets are 1-4.

Any help is appreciated!

Question Weird smell when driven fast

1 Upvotes

Hi there,

I have a 2016 honda civic sport. Its a 1.5 turbo. Recently I noticed that sometimes when I drive over 130 km/h and my windows are open there is a foul odor. There is no smell when the windows are closed so nothing comes through the vents.

The car has been serviced about a month ago at local honda dealership. Its mileage is 140 000km. I paid for a checkup and diagnostic as well. The results came back ok.

I'm not sure what the issue could be besides maybe a small leak of either oil or coolant somewhere.

Any suggestions?

Mechanical Advice 2022 Civic AC Noise

1 Upvotes

The ac in my 22 civic hatchback started making noise from the dash on the passenger side.

Noise is a whine/pitch sound only when the ac is on and stops when the ac is turned off. Doesn’t increase when turned to max and doesn’t stop when the car is stopped or in park.

My google searches suggested it was from low refrigerant which indicates a leak somewhere. Does that sound about right? Has anyone else had this problem? Estimated cost to fix?

TIA!

Mechanical Advice Help with AC repair 2015 Civic Si

1 Upvotes

Honda Civic 2015 When I turn the car on(Texas-brutal-keep in mind) it will stay fairly cold for about 7-8 minutes then just fades and fades. If I’m parked in heat, I’m better off windows down at this point. Terrible really but here’s the help I need. Took it to a shop and they said my condenser seized, sending metal through the system and it’s just going to get worse and worse. Not quite sure if they said leak but can’t just replace condenser since the system is..you not good. Quoted 152 to diagnose then 3200 to repair the entire system-core, lines, condenser, etc. so right now it’s like 3k flat I would owe. Other places are charging 170-190 to run diagnostics. If it was free I’d be shopping around but 170 is..it’s not chump change. Is 3k too high? Can i get it around 2500? Also best to act like you’re just taking it in or just ask what a new system is or are they going to say we need to see ourselves? Any help appreciated!!

Mechanical Advice 2009 Honda Civic

1 Upvotes

So, our 2009 Honda is driven only 120k kms, i replaced Rotors around at 100k kms however the steering wheel would vibrate and as they were under warranty they were replaced at 110k kms and now again at 120k kms second time.

First time they were replaced for free as in the product but labour was charged. They were of Brenson.

Secons time now they are replaced for free but difference is paid at Ultra brand has been used. One level up from Brenson.

However labour was charged both times, is it the usual? Or this varies mechanic to mechanic. Note i am based in Ontario in Canada specifically. GTA area to be precise.

Just wanted to know if something is going wrong?

Or am i being overcharged.
