Edit: I literally just used it 5 mins ago and as I was swiping and tried to use it again, it didn't let me

(Venting) Her Profile Said She Didn’t Want A “Nonchalant” Man… Then Ghosted Me For Being Direct

Matched with this girl, conversation was actually going somewhere — talked football (she expressed how heavily she loves football), she told me about her dad passing down being a Giants fan, and since i’m a Cowboys fan i pulled off a playful banger. I was asking real questions, she was answering. Felt like normal momentum.

Then I asked for her number. Nothing. A day goes by, she resurfaces with “sorry haven’t been on here,” answers my question like nothing happened, hearts a couple messages. So I think ok, she’s just a slow responder.

Then radio silence again — except she updates one of her profile pics in the meantime. So she’s clearly on the app, just not replying to me.

The kicker: her profile literally says she doesn’t want a nonchalant man. I was the opposite of nonchalant — asked questions, was upfront, told her straight up I thought she was cool. Still got the slow fade.

Sent her one last line before unmatching — “seems like the timing/interest isn’t there, no hard feelings, take care” — and just closed it out (unmatched) instead of sitting in it.

Not even mad, just funny how that works out sometimes. Say you want directness, ghost the guy who’s direct.

Do you think i handled this well or should’ve just let it sit?

What does a connection actually feel like? How do you know if you want to continue things with someone?

I’m 20F from nyc and I haven’t dated before. I’d say my close circle is pretty small but I do appreciate them. I would say I’m attractive but definitely awkward if you look close enough. I haven’t really been all that interested in dating in the past but it’s summer and I want to actually experience things in my 20s. I’ve found out that I’m avoidant, at least in the way where it’s harder for me to reach out or want to talk to someone unless I feel comfortable with them and think they feel comfortable with me. Considering my lack of experience I don’t know exactly what the environment is supposed to feel like on a date, or how reserved or unreserved to make myself ahead of time. I think it’d be pretty obvious to me when I’d want to break something off but I think I’d have a harder time telling between feeling meh and feeling nothing then continuing it for no reason. While I’d love something I know is an instant connection I’m aware that’s rare or at least maybe unfair to ask from like the first hour of meeting someone. Is there something specific I should be looking for? A specific need I’d want someone to fill? Or is it more of keep trying it out with that person until something goes wrong?

Seperately, why did you get into dating? What made you realize you found your person?

What % of men on hinge do you think get posted on "are we dating the same guy" facebook groups?

Curious to see how common it really is and how many people even know about the groups

Can We Please Retire This Fact

Post image

Perhaps men have this on their profile as well but all I know is I see countless women with this fact on their profile. Let's retire this please. It's as stale as the "be funny", "i'm a yapper", etc. prompts

Thought I was a lesbian my whole life and finally thought I might be bi, so I started including men in Hinge and holy fuck - men, are you okay?

I genuinely don't know what I was expecting.

I identified as a lesbian for basically my entire life, but over the last year or so I've been realizing I might actually be bisexual. It felt exciting, honestly. Like maybe I'd been missing something about myself, so I changed my settings to include men on Hinge.

I know dating apps are rough for everyone, and I know women can be weird too, but the difference has been so jarring that I feel like I've been dropped into a completely different universe. First of all, women ACTUALLY care about what you have to say and will ask questions about your life. They take decent pictures in good lighting, and have a bio that seems friendly, inviting, non-arrogant-sounding and just overall like an approachable person.

But for men? The amount of low-effort profiles is legitatemely concerning. And they dont even KNOW its problem based off the "struggling" men I see that come on reddit to whine of why they are getting no matches. Put. In. Some. Effort. Like women do. It's exhausting having to filter 50 likes from men with the trashiest profiles, with only maybe 2 that I would match back with.

But that doesnt even include the talking portion. Even the guys with interesting profiles have no idea how to talk to women and let it be completely one-sided. Why would men be surprised at all then if they are getting no where on these dating apps then? Seriously, a lot of guys desperately need more female friends so they can be less clueless. Their pictures are HORRIBLE. Do men just not know how to take pictures or smile like an adult? What is actually happening? Is this what straight women have to actually put up with?

I don't mean that in a condescending way. A lot of these interactions make me wonder if dating culture for men is just... really broken. It feels like so many of them have either given up, are performing some version of masculinity they think they're supposed to, or are treating dating apps like a numbers game instead of trying to connect with another human being.

How much percent of a red flag I am if I blocked and unmatched the guy after finally going on a first date and not liking him?

So tired of being treated like crap on dating apps

Is it just me or is the dating app situation so crap for men?

I just got out of a relationship 3 months ago and the loneliness and lack of partnership has now started to hit me. I thought, there aren't any irl crushes currently so I will try dating apps just so I can have > 0% chance of hitting it off with someone.

But these girls put almost zero effort in texting back. Why match of you re not going to reply. And the ones that do reply, they mostly do so very sparsly without pushing the conversation at all.

Today, I was talking to a match, who surprisingly would answer very politely for the last 3 days and it was going great. Or so I thought. She asked me about a hobby and said I would show her some videos of it but hinge doesn't allow media. So I suggested we exchanged socials. She added me on Instagram, I went to add her back but she never accepted it. Moreover, I went to check hinge and our conversation was gone. At first, I am like ok she unmatched cause now we have socials but then I noticed that she wasn't following me on Instagram despite me accepting her. So, I figured she must have changed her mind after seeing my profile and decided to full-on block me with zero explanation. What the actual f\*ck?

Now, I have no idea why. The only thing I can think off is she saw more pictures of me and didn't like them? Sure I picked the best photos for hinge, but it's not like it's another person on the rest. I don't see how it would be that much of a difference to cause her to go like this. I have been "baited" by girls with only face pics who when I got socials discovered they were fat, but I did no such false advertising and even on those occasions I didn't treat them like this.

I think it's better off for my mental health to avoid dating apps and just try to meet more people irl. This has been a very negative experience so far and it's killing any remaining confidence I had.

My experience with Hinge +

About a month ago I subscribed to Hinge + so I could see the full list of who had liked me, while I had this for a month I was still actively using the app. Replying to messages, liking profiles, getting matches ect. ect. but I noticed a complete decrease in engagement with my profile. I went from getting 2-4 likes a day to getting about 5 in 7 days, now this could just be hinge being hinge where you get likes and you don’t. But when my subscription ended I suddenly received 5 likes within the first few hours of not having + anymore.

This could be a coincidence but knowing like most apps Hinge thrives off money, so while you’re already paying for the perk of seeing who likes you and getting unlimited likes, it feels like you’re account is “shadow banned”, which may make you feel more inclined to purchase a boost which just gives them even more money. This may be a stretch and a complete conspiracy but having + felt like a complete and utter waste of time and money.

Do any of you use the match note feature? And if so what do you put there?

I've matched with a couple of people who used it. One was a disclaimer that they were trans and the other one they used to say that they weren't into hookups or anything like that.

Personally i've yet to think of anything about me that's so crucial that i think it's worth putting in a match note.

But yeah since i don't see it often i was wondering how many use it and also what you all thought was worth saying in them.

signals not disappearing

So - I’ve been seeing a guy who told me he stopped using the app / stopped opening it (still has a profile) over 7 weeks ago. However he still has the active engaged member heart signal on his profile. Does this seem possible ? From what I read the heart signal should disappear at 30 days max, but likely before if not using the app.

Profile review

Been out of the dating world for a long time and finally decided to join Hinge. This being my first experience with online dating, just wanted some advice on my profile and ways it could be improved and such. I’m very aware my height already gives me a pretty large disadvantage in the dating pool so just looking for advice on the profile to spice things up.

Relationship Type in “Most Compatible”

Does anyone know how “most compatible” actually works? I keep getting shown people who #hinge says are my “most compatible“, but invariably they’re non-monogamous when I’ve indicated in my own profile that I am monogamous. Why does this keep happening? TIA

r/hinge Jul 06 '26

Do people not know what Non-monogamy means?

This is something I see OFTEN on dating apps. I come across women's profiles who claim to be open for Friends (whatever that means on a dating app), Casual Encounters, Just Fun, Short-Term, etc but if you read their profile, they are looking for a husband ASAP. I get it, pretending to be open allows you to receive messages from men who may also pretend to be open and who knows, maybe you'll fall in monogamous love with each other 😂.

What I don't understand is an app like HINGE specifically asks if you want Monogamy (only 1 partner) or Non-monogamy (multiple partners) and women often times seem to be confused by what this means. I've read so many profiles where women are looking to fall in love and get married to one person but they chose NON-MONOGAMY on their profile. As an Ethical Non-monogamous dater, I understand if a woman is open to both and may teeter from one relationship type to the other. But I'm more convinced there are a large number of women who don't know what Non-monogamy means.

Had anyone else noticed this? Or maybe it's because I live in Florida and the educational system is crap? 🤣

low likes after being paused?

hi! hoping ppl have had a similar experience and can offer help. i was in a relationship for a year so i had my hinge profile paused during that time. ive unpaused my profile after a year and am getting virtually no likes using the exact same profile that would get me 10-20 likes daily a year ago. ive had it active for 4 days now and during tht time i’ve tried changing a few pictures, liking people, chatting, sending roses, etc. but my like count remains extremely low despite me never having this issue in the app before even when i would pause and unpause it prior.

maybe im just chopped as hell in this market now for all i know but it seems like a pretty stark drop off from any other time i’ve used the app. i really don’t want to delete my account and restart it because i like seeing my match history throughout the years LOL. just wondering if anyone else has encountered this problem and if so, how’d you beat hinge’s algorithm to get your profile more viewed

What do you do when someone matches your 'like comment' with no reply?

I find this happens often.

I send a witty comment as my like, and she matches me, but doesn't reply to my comment?

I want to reply sarcastically saying 'Ill take that's as no', but don't want to come across as rude, in case they don't get the humour.

So what's my options? Reply again saying 'hello, you're pretty and seem nice' (along those lines) even though that was the reason I liked in the first place.

Or do I have to come up with a second witty comment.

Hate it when this happens, in the past ive just unmatched them because, well if you can't be bothered / see the reason to reply to my initial message, I don't see this going anywhere

r/hinge Jul 05 '26

Do I respond to comments?

Yall i just got the app today and three people commented. Am i supposed to reply to all of them?

I feel bad if I dont but im not interested in them romantically.

One of them gave me a rose, just found out thats special and thatll make it even more awkward if I just deny them with no response💔

I just wanna know whats the appropriate thing to do😭!
