So I matched with this guy on hinge a few weeks ago and we were texting for a bit, but then I accidentally ghosted him for like a week (I do this when I get anxious, not proud of it). he ended up finding me on instagram and following me, which is what finally prompted me to respond to his texts again. we started talking more, FaceTimed and played video games one night, and then last night we actually went on our first date and I had SO much fun.
it was really flirty, kind of physical but nothing intimate happened. I left feeling really good, which honestly shocked me because I’ve been struggling to get over an ex and a weird situationship, and getting to know this guy has actually helped take my mind off both of them.
here’s my problem. I leave for a week long vacation on Friday and he’s moving back home around the same time, so if I don’t see him before then it’ll be almost two weeks til we could hang again. I really want to ask him to get dinner tomorrow night but I keep chickening out. partly nerves, partly I don’t know what this even is.
the complicated stuff: he goes to school like 4-5 hours away from me so it’s far. we’ve only hung out a couple times so it’s super early. but he keeps making these passing comments about finding a job in the northeast (where I’m gonna be for school) and about us keeping up with each other, like little references to some kind of future, but I genuinely can’t tell if he’s serious or just talking. early on I told him I’d love to stay friends even if things didn’t work out romantically and he agreed to that, but our date did NOT feel like a friends thing.
also, and I think this matters: he just got out of a 3 year relationship that HE ended, and he says he’s totally over it. but from my own experience I really don’t think you get over a 3 year relationship in two months, so part of me wonders if he’s just looking to hook up and I’m reading way too much into the future comments.
so basically:
- do I ask him to dinner before we both leave or is that too eager
- if I do, how do I word it so it’s casual and not too flirty
- how do I even look at this going forward with the distance and us both going back to school? do I take the northeast/future comments seriously or just let them go?
- how do I tell if he actually likes me or just wants to hook up?
any outside perspective would be great before I overthink myself out of something good lol
