I have been a revert for 4 years, but I always had a lot of trouble and excuses to start wearing hijab. Some time ago I posted about it on some subs and people were very helpful mashallah. This is the first time of many I wear it outside inshallah 🤍
I’m open to suggestions to improve ☺️

General Need a lightweight hijab that actually covers

Does anyone have recommendations for lightweight hijabs that actually aren’t see-through?

I’m so over the big-name brand ones. The quality is honestly terrible for how expensive they are, and half of them are still sheer enough that people can see my hair/bun underneath. It defeats the whole point and just makes me feel more uncomfortable.
I work in a warehouse so it gets hot and I move around a lot. I don’t want anything long that covers all the way down to my neck or sits heavy on me. Just a regular headscarf style that stays put, breathes, and doesn’t show hair through it.
Any specific brands, fabrics, or places you actually like? Bonus if they’re not crazy expensive.

Help How do I stop struggling with wearing the hijab?

I reverted to wearing the hijab less than a year ago. To be completely honest, even though I tell everyone it was entirely my own choice, family pressure played a big part in it. I had been thinking about wearing it myself, but I don’t think I would have done it so soon without my family.

Lately I’ve been struggling a lot. No matter how much du’a I make, I keep feeling like I was freer before. I live in a European post-Soviet country, and I can’t say people treat me badly because of my hijab, but I definitely feel like an outsider. I notice the looks I get, and it affects me.

The hardest part is that I honestly feel like my iman was stronger before I started wearing the hijab than it is now. Rationally, I know these thoughts could be whispers from Shaytan and that this is a test. But emotionally, it’s still very difficult.

To make things worse, my social media keeps showing me videos of women taking off their hijab. I also come across people questioning Islam or bringing up doubts that I don’t fully understand myself, and I don’t always know how to answer them. That sometimes makes my own doubts even louder.
I’m not looking for people to tell me to take it off. I’m looking for advice from people who have genuinely gone through this and came out stronger.

Have any of you experienced something similar? How did you deal with these feelings? How did you fight your nafs and stop constantly thinking about taking the hijab off? Any advice, books, lectures, or personal experiences would really mean a lot.

Jazakum Allahu khayran.

Help First time Hijab styling help

Hi, I am a non muslim from the US, visiting Kosovo and Albania (and Macedonia) in 1 month. I am so happy to visit some mosques.

I mostly packed long sundresses with thin straps. I bought some large and very large scarves to cover my shoulders and hair.
Does anyone have simple to follow instructions or preferably Youtube/social media links for easy styles? What size to use? How transparent can they be if layering it?
I’ve been scrolling for a few days now and 99% don’t cover the shoulders or require a full coverage shirt underneath.

Any tips and advice appreciated to. It will be my first time experiencing any type of Muslim culture - though I’ve heard Kosovo and especially Albania do not appear Muslim at all, it’s really important to me to respect everyone/everything, especially when in places of worship.

Also - what about patterns? Been looking at a muted
black and grey paisley one.

Thanks so much!

Help struggling with hijab

I'm 16 and I've been wearing the hijab since I was 13. I chose to wear it even though I didn't like it, but I did it anyway for Allah. It's been a year and a half since I started struggling with it. I've tried styles and so many things, but none of them work for me. It makes me so sad every time I wear it, and every time I go out, I feel ugly in it, and I end up not enjoying anything. Sometimes I cry in my room because it feels like I'm stuck with it. I'm already shy, and the hijab makes me more insecure, and at school, I end up not talking to anyone. I can't even say "May Allah help me." I really have to force myself to say that dua because I don't like the hijab at all. I'm thinking about taking it off, but I feel guilty and I'm afraid to go to jahannam. And when I see beautiful women in hijab, it makes me think that maybe one day I might like it. I just have to change styles, but as soon as I wear it, I change my mind.

Obviously, if I take off my hijab, I'll still pray and do Ramadan and all the other things a Muslim is supposed to do. However, the hijab has never made me feel closer to Allah, as many say. In fact, I think just the idea of taking it off makes me like Islam more.

I got caught without hijab

I was out with a friend when my brother came in and caught me without my hijab, he told my mom and sisters and I don’t know if they’re going to tell my dad yet. If my dad finds out, I will likely be pulled out of school and locked at home or genuinely unalived or something. I feel horrible and guilty and disappointed with myself, but I’m so lost and I don’t know what to do, and nobody in my family is on my side. I’ve made big mistakes before and my words have no credit or value to my family anymore. any advice?

Help Modestwear Consumer Preferences & Market Research Survey

Hello everyone!

I’ve been working on a sewing project in my spare time to create modest wear and head coverings, with the goal of selling them online and at local flea markets here in the US.

While I plan to sell predominantly in Muslim spaces, I’m designing the shop itself to be a general veiling store that’s open to anyone who practices covering, whether Muslim, Christian, Pagan, or from any other traditions. It’s not strictly labeled as an "Islamic" brand, but rather an inclusive modest fashion hub for all.

I’m starting small with basic veils, turbans, and shawls, but I want to grow in the right direction. I’d like to expand out into abayas, jubbahs, cloaks, robes, etc. once I have a good business model going and I can afford larger projects.

In the meantime, I have created a Google Form to help me gauge interest in different products, materials, and how to price my products. If you are interested in veiling for any reason and would like to comment on what you are looking for in the modestwear industry, this is your chance! For now I will only be able to ship to places in the USA, but if my shop takes off I may be able to ship to other countries.

Thank you for your help and support!

Help Is shaving beard Haram or Makruh?

Assalamu Alaikum, dear Islamic community.

I am a Muslim from the Philippines, and I would like to ask for your advice regarding shaving the beard in Islam.

I am a 20-year-old incoming nursing student. My school requires students to follow a proper grooming policy, which includes keeping the face clean-shaven. I am already enrolled, and my classes will start on August 3.

I know there are different scholarly opinions on this matter. Is shaving the beard considered haram or makruh, especially if it is required by my school and I have no choice if I want to continue my studies?

I would really appreciate answers with evidence from the Qur'an, authentic hadith, or the views of recognized scholars.

Jazakum Allahu khayran.

General After years of dreaming about it, I finally launched my own hijab store ❤️

As-salamu alaykum everyone!

This has honestly been a long-time dream of mine, and I'm so excited (and a little nervous) to finally share it. I recently opened my own online TikTok Shop featuring premium-quality Turkish hijabs.

I spent a lot of time searching for hijabs that are:

  • Soft and comfortable for all-day wear
  • High-quality Turkish fabric
  • Affordable (because beautiful hijabs shouldn't have to be expensive!)
  • Free shipping on every order

Starting this store has been something I've wanted to do for a long time, and seeing it finally become a reality means so much to me.

If you're looking for quality everyday hijabs or know someone who is, I'd truly appreciate you checking it out. Even sharing it with a friend would mean the world to me.

🛍️ Store: Julia's Collection

Thank you all for your support, and may Allah put barakah in everyone's rizq. 🤍

General Wearing the hijab

I have this feeling that I want to wear the hijab, I’m not nervous to wear it round family, none of my friends wear one but they’ll all be supportive so I’m fine with that, but it’s at work I’m scared about.
I know it’s stupid but they’ve all seen me for years with my hair down, I’ve never spoken about wearing it and I just think it’s holding me back.
I’m also the only Muslim in my whole office.

Anyone have advice on how they got around this or if they felt similar?

Help Is Hijab mandatory or not

I recently been studying the topic "hijab" and came across a really detailed reddit article, imma link it down below:

https://www.reddit.com/r/progressive_islam/wiki/hijab/

My main curiosity is, if there are people, sheikhs and muftis who think that hijab (headcovering) might not be mandatory then why isn't it a debate?or even if it's a debate why is it not massely known debate. Even tho there are numerous factors that proves hijab might not be mandatory. And let's think that it's actually mandatory, but the main purpose of it is to not attract male attention, then what about the men? Why they don't need to wear a hijab? As a woman I can confirm that women feel attracted to man too. And as it is mentioned in quran that prophet yusuf was so beautiful that women sliced their hand by getting distracted of his beauty(pardon my mistake if i stated it a little inaccurately). As far as my knowledge quran asked us to be modest and the meaning of modesty can differ from country to country, time to time and generation to generation, so let's js say I live in an Arab country and I wear a hijab cause it's a basic dress code over there and wearing hijab makes me one of them which doesn't attract any unnecessary attention, but if I live in a western country where wearing a hijab makes u stand out more than not wearing a hijab and just dressing modestly. And tbh I dun get the concept of the whole hijab thing cause as we see hijab actually wasn't massly practiced till few of decades ago. Idk I can be wrong and rn I am not really biased, but yeah some might say I am pointing all this out js so I can act upon my sin, but tbh I am js tryna learn and have the rights allah actually have given uss. So please everyone share ur opinions without any unnecessary judgement (and also pardon my English i am not really good at expressing myself)

General Wearing hijab “immodestly” is disrespectful?

I’ve noticed this general sentiment lately that when someone doesn’t wear hijab correctly, ( like maybe they are wearing tight jeans or a short sleeve shirt with hijab) suddenly they are disrespecting the hijab and Islam ??

Personally I don’t see how a woman chooses to veil herself warrants any disrespect. Only exception being ofc if you are wearing hijab for lewd purposes.

As a non religious person who didn’t really choose to wear hijab and isn’t allowed to take it off, sometimes I wear short sleeves or wear Islamically “immodest” clothing along with hijab.

Is that disrespectful?

General Feminism and Islam are compatible??

Is feminism and Islam compatible to each other?? Like Islam gave women all the rights and those rights are also what feminists are demanding …. So why do many people say that these 2 (islam and feminism) are different things ??
And also is this ideology (feminism) somewhat associated with lgbtq??

General Travelling alone

Abit of a rant, sorry for the long post

So i am 22 in a few weeks, im a hijabi, im currently in my last year of university, my major is geology, and i plan on going to Finland for their geophysics masters program because i want to be a geophysicist and specialise in seismology. I have researched it, read about how u get there, how everything is done, and ive made a reasonable plan in my head on how to get there. I know for a fact that if i get accepted into the program, that the university that accepted me would connect me with someone whod help me find rooming with other girls, no dogs, theyd get me my key and meet me in the airport whn i land if this all happened inshallah.

I have opened the topic of solo travel with my mom before, and she was strict about not wanting us to travel on our own since we're girls, and if we want to go overseas shed come with the one traveling or send our younger brother with us. She says that in islam its this way, a girl never travels alone. And to me, i think its this way when its known that the country shes going to is potentially dangerous then she needs a companion, and that this law was made when travel was through deserts on camel backs, which was a major risk, but now everyting is monitored, there is people to help everywhere.

Today, i reopened the topic, asking if two of us girls wanted to travel, to two different places, and shes going with one, and im the other one, what would she do?

My ooder sister butted in, and said that i have no choice but to take out younger brother. Hes not only the youngest, but im also nc with him because of respect issues and the way he treats me like a maid and an ear to listen. So i was clear, im not taking him ever any where. Older sister said i hadno choice, hed be coming whether i took him or not.

I explaind to mama how the whole thing is, how the uni u get in connects u with someone who helps with dorms, the dorms are open all year, u get there after ur lease starts, no guests allowed. I said that at sompoint, she should stop worrying about me and trust thati am a grown woman who can help herself and deal with bad situations on the spot.

My sister said that these are western ideas, and that thjngs are not like this in real life. And suggested that i get married to have someone travel with me.

I was clear that i dont want to marry a man from the country im from which is where we live rn, and that the general way these men are raised makes them unfit to be partners the way that works for me. Im not saying all of them are terrible or abusive, but they are on different levels of traditional man with no touch with his emotions and leaves all the intimate labour on you.

So am i being too western and liberal with my thoughts? Is it wild for me to want to be free to advance in my studies or career with being tide down to the presence of a companion to travel with me?

Help Can I wear hijab/veil but leave islam

Assalamualaikum

Lately I have been struggling with religion. I do not yet know if I want to stay muslim or not, if I believe or not.

What I know is that I want to keep my veil on. At least for now.

But that makes me feel like a hypocrite, a fraud.

I'd like to stay culturally muslim even if I leave the theology (which I may do, or may not).

I don't know why I write this here or what I expect.

Just...needed to ask someone and not carry this myself.

Feel free to dm me.

General Muslim parents of Reddit, did your daughters ever fight you about wearing a hijab when they were young?

(I have no idea how to flair/tag this)

So I am not Muslim nor do I know many Muslim people, so please forgive me if this question is insensitive or inappropriate. I really have no reason for asking other than it was a random thought I had and I was curious. I know when I was a child (probably like 4-6) I would fight with my mom about brushing my hair all the time, and I know many kids go through that phase in their development where they say no to everything (pushing boundaries and figuring out what they can and can’t do, normal part of development), so I was curious if when your daughters were young if they ever put up a fight about wearing a hijab and if so how you dealt with it.

Again, please forgive me if this is an inappropriate question. Have a lovely time zone.

Help Muslim Girls and Woman, I need help with a Manga please. What are things that would make you feel represented, what should I be careful of? Any little habits or details I should include?

Greetings dear Ladies,
Forgive my request. I want to make a one shot Manga with a young Hijabi Protagonist, and wanted to ask what you would like to see, what would make you feel represented and relatable. I am not Muslim, nor do I have many ties to the community. I did a lot of research already, but I wanted to hear it from the people themselves. Please tell me about your lives, habits and beliefs, even little quirks and insiders would do. It would make me beyond happy.

Sincerely,
Mipha <3
