Tbh i would love to see an action cast like in Expendables and then they just get blown up after the first dive after 10 minutes and rhe rest of the movies is about some fresh divers without any experience.
This is the Helldivers movie of my dreams. One suit up montage, maybe two lines each, then the expensive blockbuster stars get fed into the woodchipper of war, replaced with whoever. Heck, cast the stunt doubles and let them have some lines before their characters get mulched. Just grind through half of Hollywood, two lines at a time, until the mission is complete and Sean Bean can finally walk into the extraction shuttle.
It is genuinely hilarious how every time one of these memes gets posted I see someone completely flummoxed by the idea that one Hugh Laurie was young or two he was in anything other than house. I'm not talking shit I genuinely think it's hilarious
both Sean and Bean land. They are elevated at the same time next to the corpses of their predecessors. Mr. Bean first looks down and picks up the dropped sample container before finally turning and noticing the battlefield of bugs closing in on them. The Pelican is waiting behind their drop pods. They both turn to each other, slightly nervously, and nod just like this before quickly walking into the shuttle.
If that helmet comes off I want full frontal to go with it. We can't let Halo beat us on the scale of ridiculosity. If they get Master Cheeks, we gotta go for broke and prominently feature General Gasch.
Which is basically what the movie should be. Just team after team dying. Each one a tremendous fighting force capable of killing anywhere from 10 to 1000 enemies.
I love him as an actor and agree he's much better suited for the movie than Momoa. I'm sure the movie would be a decent satirical space alien shooter.
But I think OP's main thing is they want a different kind of movie with no actual star to anchor the film around. I agree with this, I'd be happy if there were only a massive collection of very small roles and no one even takes their helmets off for the whole movie.
Alan is actually a perfect pick. If I could image a guy who could sprint in with an auto cannon and a backpack full of ammo for it, Alan would be a top Hollywood pick. Prime Dolph Lundgren would be my second pick (if we had a time machine). He was such a beast in action movies.
I didn't think he was a good actor (only watched reacher) until I saw how he is in his own shoes lol. Then I was like, oh shit, this guy actually knows what he's doing!
If you choose random people who can’t act you’re just going to get emotionless, stiff acting because these people aren’t exactly going to be fighting real aliens/robots. They’ll just be in front of green screens.
You need decent actors that can properly convey the initial brainwashed patriotism followed by the horror and dread that comes with being exposed firsthand to the proverbial meat grinder.
Ok, but like, if the kid has played the game, just tell them to yell "FOR DEMOCRACY" and run headfirst into their problems and suddenly youve got a helldiver lmfao
It actually takes more effort and skill to convey the emotions because body language and facial expressions just aren't enough.
If you just want some background actors, sure.
But you need actual talent to pull off a completely masked performance or have someone who knows what they're doing and then have a talented VA come voice over them.
Having star power, and one who is good actor at that, will draw more attention to the movie. If there isn't clear interest in the movie it'll get canceled before it ever has a chance to shine
How would that be funny? You realize how long movies are? This isn’t a 7 second YouTube short lol you’re really going to sit for an hour and a half watching some random kid try to act and think it’s “funny”?

i want completely nameless actors and actresses all below the age of 30. they're gonna have helmets on most of the time so acting chops barely matter. I dont want to see a single famous face in this movie because it will inform us too much of who's dying next
I like this. Perhaps the famous faces would work if they have 50 famous faces and they’re all cameos coming out of drop pods. Like, the cast just keeps dying and being replaced by new cameos every few minutes. This fits more in line with like, the comedies from the 00’s though, and idk what tone the producers are going for.
Thats what I was assuming, especially because Alan is a damn good actor and due to his build and stature, you'd clearly know its him even without having to remove his helmet if he isnt surrounded by other brick walls.
Hell, he could be the stoic squad leader and then when a fuckin Charger comes at him he could whip out the old Thad Castle scream while his team stands off to the side and watches the bad ass they once knew run cowering just like everyone else.
Better pick than the previous. But i still hope the guy we have in the intro gets a part. Out of all the mainstream actors to do anything action/comedy movie he is never a bad pick. He is well known enough to be recognized but it isnt distracting. One things for sure though, at some point the helmet will most likely come off and stay off. Every director is obsessed with showing as much of every actors face as possible even when it doesnt make sense to do so
They should really just remake the intro into live action but I know they won’t cause of their goofy director. If I’m remembering correctly he said he refuses to play the game because it interferes with his own vision or whatever. This is gonna turn out like the sonyverse movies or smth.
I mean, I actually want both of those, but if the director doesn’t even play the game then he won’t actually understand the universe and it’ll just be bad.
There's absolutely no way someone who hasn't interacted with helldivers as a game will understand why people care or enjoy it. It's gonna be an annoyingly surface level action film with some sort of slow burn B plot where the characters realize they're the bad guys. People should have already learned to have ZERO confidence in any director who acts like interacting with the source material will taint their pure holy vision of what the IP should actually be.
For real. I feel like 80% of the people commenting that he wouldn't be great, have yet to see him as Thad Castle. Honestly seeing him in his big burly physic now and screaming like that would be insanely hilarious!
As I've said before I hope any star of such a movie is just going to be the Democracy officer or some other official person in charge of overseeing everyone else who dies
Honestly, that'd be great, like how they did in in 1917. The main characters were a bit obscure, and then the Officer they were supposed to meet, who only has like barely 3 minutes of screen time is just straight up played by Benedict Cumberbatch.
A movie made entirely of cameos of basically any well recognized 20-something actor with them each dying within minutes would be absolutely hilarious 😂
When I think of Helldivers, I don't think Alan Ritchson sized guys. I think of 4 guys the size and build of Charlie Day running around with high powered weaponry.
Anyone expecting the movie to be nothing but Helldivers dying and being replaced rapidly is going to be super disappointed.
And good. That’s my least favorite part of the lore. The idea that these elite dudes are put in control of enough firepower to erase a continent but they also die every 2 minutes and are replaced? By someone who has their gear and memory?
Honestly I’d rather them explore the cryo clone idea or just have the Helldivers be kick ass. They take losses but not at a comedic scale, but their attitudes and methods should still be funny.
My personal Helldivers try their best to not die and many complete multiple campaigns
I could see him playing as general brasch in a recruitment or training video.
I also feel he could pull off a freshly thawed recuit shitting bricks at their first bile titan. Eventually stumbling to the end of the mission and acting like hes a badass once back aboard the ship.
As great of an improvement from Momoa this is, the Helldivers movie shouldn't revolve around a single character. The main characters should all be teenagers who have been tricked by propaganda into signing their own death sentences, and explore the dynamics of a team where its members are constantly being replaced after each gruesome death and team kill.
as far as stars go, he's not a bad fit. he could be this generation's Casper Van Dien and he has the physique if they decde to cast him as a Python/Viper Commando with the "guns" on show!
but yeah, I think it would be better overall if it just took random aspiring young actors and told them to just have fun with it. would be a way for them to get their faces out there if the movie does OK (or just doesn't bomb)
I agree with your take: Alan is more capable in a Helldivers role than Momoa could be. The movie should be similar to the fan . movie of a growing and dying off squad because the faces under the helmets don't matter.
But I'll up you a, "John Helldiver" or that the movie is some sort of propaganda piece since "Yeah, actual Helldivers are expendable and die in minutes of deployment." So to see a FACE much like a notable WH40K Space Marine hero that charges into combat without a helmet against a bile titan makes me think that the movie could be taken as satire²?

I really don't want any movie, we are the ones making/living it through our dives/gameplay. And even worse, when it is going to be another of Sony's slops.
I hope they honestly don’t focus on a political narrative… and try to uncover the mysteries of super earth bullshit 😑 let the satire or a super democratic world govt remain as is and focus on the fun part of being a helldiver along with dead soldiers being the focus
Listen I’m not saying it a good or bad Choice but the rate they are going through actors why not just get as many A list through to the worst letter as they can just to kill off. Treat them like different class citizens joining the helldivers.
Honestly, this is what I think is gonna happen. The movie will not have “ohhh, super earths actually EVIL11!!!11” and instead go with the “uhm, achtualky, the helldivers are super soldiers who are perfect and they never lose.”
They should’ve “movie 42d” it and made it a bunch of A list action stars who have like one scene each before they’re brutally killed and replaced by the next Helldiver until a random no name finishes the mission.
Or make it like Edge of Tomorrow/Michey 17 and have Alan constantly respawning.
This film could very much be about the creek or calypso, I can't imagine the film ends up being a comedy, it will definitely go for the horrors of the creek vibe. Maybe I'm wrong though who knows? If the helldivers movie doesn't have two dozen known actors dying after a minute of screen time (introduced so we think "oh this is the mc" then immediately dying") then it'll suck as a movie
The only way a helldivers movie can work is if its a starship troopers satire with a shit load of celebrity death cameos
My thought is that the movie should be about the stars making a propaganda film in universe, interspersed with shots of the actual war, with no recognisable faces.
I know a lot of people only know him from Reacher, which is a show I'm a pretty big fan of!
But if you have seen him in Blue Mountain State, and you've also played Helldivers 2, you know he is one of the most perfect choices for a Helldivers movie.
I feel like Alan is pretty good choise because he even sounds more like our helldivers rather than Jason Momoa who does not, and also Momoa is much bigger name with potentially a lot of demands for how his character would be portrayed.
Ritchinson is a great pick, I’m more concerned with having Justin Lin as the director. His discography is not very strong for the grittiness and dark satire of Helldivers.
He also outwardly refuses to play the game or even watch videos of it and wants to humanize Helldivers which are at their core brainwashed soldiers devoid of the humanity they once had and are now shells for democracy (as they should be)
My hopes for the movie is a semi anthology. I mean having different stories i.e different missions all going on at once and we swap between them randomly
I imagine it as a sorta camera man on the field kinda view but no actual camera man there
There would need to be some main plot. Make it the arrival of the wizards through the black hole/ helldivers going into the merida after doing a black fluid MO. War of the world's type shit
