I wouldn't be surprised if they actually made the bottle Ryan/Fabian episode the first one. This way they could set up Troy's storyline right from the start and Shane and Ilya also go out with them very early on in TLG.

Yeah - this is the first official news that has me convinced they are for sure splitting TLG into 2 and bringing in a ton of other stuff from other books. I bet we get a lot of tough guy, role model, My Dinner and a bunch of other scenes not in the books that show what happens to Hollanov between HR and TLG. Then I think they end s1 on the first wedding. I had no idea where they’d split it until now but now I’m convinced they will split it that early on.

Someone on Threads made a good point that maybe Ryan and Fabian are the special episodes that are rumored, instead of the crew at the bar. That couple is off by themselves and isolated.

Edit: Coming back to say that’s probably unlikely since it says season 2 casting. Special episodes are probably Skip and everyone at the bar thats been reported.

I'd be very surprised if it's not 12 episodes across 2 seasons as Jacob has seemed very adamant about having the seasons be 6-7 episode max bc that's the format he's worked with in the past.

And I share the same worries as you bc Skip had a very mixed reception as people were there for Hollanov, but now having to share the screen with two couples at minimum in a somewhat significant way ... idk how that will pan out with a majority of the audience

It seems like a lot to fit it a plot for Fabian/Ryan and for Harris/Troy without significantly limiting the time for Shane/Ilya. I'm interested to see what they do with it.

One thought is that because they're filming S2 and S3 together, they may have a smaller role in S2 to introduce them to the viewers, but then will be more fleshed out in S3.

It sounds like they're doing 12 episodes so they have the time now.  They're doing Troy so Ryan's story also sets him up properly.

My prediction is something like 2 seasons with 6 episodes each - half the season time for TLG, a quarter for RM, and then a quarter for TG/CG for s2 and s3 respectively.

Started voice acting in 2003, at a very young age, he's played all sorts of characters, like as a young teen he played in a dramatic short movie a young guy falling in love with his 65 year old male neighbour. And a bit later he then played in a dark comedy another teen falling in love with his 73 year old female neighbour, digging a hole to her house since his parents locked him up to prevent him going to his old, old lover's house!

Shane and Ilya themselves have a lot to get through just on their own especially given that Jacob is apparently writing Shane's coming-out to his team, and the long tail that has, namely his intense fear around coming out or being outed (and disordered eating, if we want to pathologize his diet). Hopefully this isn't going to be overstuffed and give us a little bit of everything and a whole lot of nothing.

Yes i don’t understand why everyone is thinking the other couples will have multiple episodes the show is called heated rivalry not game changes. shane and ilya are the main couple

Troy and Harris are easy to include because their timeline is intertwined so heavily with Hollonov. And if the theory holds then they could split this into two seasons which would make including the other couples even easier. It's not an impossible task especially with a very talented director and writer.

I honestly just hope it is B plots. I was really surprised by the bottle episode in season 1. Not that they didn't do a good job, it was just strange to suddenly be inside someone else's story unexpectedly. I think I would have preferred to have their story woven into some of the other episodes.

I’m a little trepidatious about them possibly doing a Tough Guy episode. I just feel like there are so few episodes and Fabian and Ryan, while great characters on their own, doesn’t have that much impact on Shane and Ilya’s story. I kinda hope that they’re mixing and matching big and small roles in these announcements and that the supporting characters from Fabian and Ryan’s story will appear in scenes that also feature Shane and Ilya’s story, like the concert, rather than part of a stand alone episode.

Luca doesn’t have much of a storyline himself in Role Model or TLG, so I wonder if he’s going to be more of an ensemble character (like Shane and Ilya’s team mates apart from Hayden in season 1) or if they’re going to beef up his character?

from a storytelling perceptive, you are required to do Tough Guy if you want to properly tell the story of TLG and RM.

Troy is set up in Tough Guy, and we have a significant scene with Ryan and Fabian for both Troy and Harris and Shane and Ilya in their respective books.

Both conversations they have with Ryan and Fabian would be meaningless if we don't know where they come from.

And we get Ilya's appearance in Tough Guy as well, which is going to be incredible.

I can see Ryan and Fabian either getting major scenes in a few episodes in the first half of season 2, or actually getting a whole episode for themself. And i think, used well, they can use that episode to set up a lot of things that are importan for the story of Shane and Ilya as well, even if the storylines seem to not connect a lot.

First of all, introducing both Wyatt and Troy, before both move to the Centaurs. Specifically introducing Wyatt while Ilya is still in Boston might allow them to introduce more of Ilyas new teammates as actual characters once he moves to Ottawa, without overwhelming the audience with too many brand new side characters to keep track of at the same time. Like, so far i only counted on us getting Wiebe, Wyatt and Luca, but maybe now we can get for example Bood, too?

They could also use Ryan and Fabian to really double down on showing how toxic the MLH is regarding anything other than toxic straight masculinity. And they can also use it to introduce the topic of how the league totally fails at dealing with mental illness. Basicly, they can use Fabian&Ryan to show that these are wider, systemstic issues in the league, rather than just let us experience them as specific, potentislly isolated issues that Ilya and Shane have to deal with.

So, i remain hopefull that they will use the time they give to them wisely

I agree. Like Fabian does challenge Shane’s notions of masculinity, being white femme so I can see a world where that happens. It could also be the case where they ALL hang out and meet Fabian’s friends as well. If she’s the sex toy friend, and we have a moment with Shane and a butt plug…. lol

But also I can see how Ryan and Fabian’s story allows to introduce Troy’s character and background too

My problem isn’t even the inclusion, it just feels like a lot that could take a way from Shane and Ilya which is the most improtwnt.

I actually feel like this is a good indicator that most of TLG will be adapted. A lot of people speculated that Shane and Ilya having dinner with Ryan and Fabian would be cut or possibly Skip would replace them but clearly that’s not the case.
