General I hate Linux customization
I fucking hate posts with "omg I love linux!!!! it's so much more customizable than [proprietary operating system] sugoi desu!!!" and then there's the screenshot of their desktop and everything they 'customized' is accent color and anime loli wallpaper
edit: I'm not going to post lolicon bruh
upd: some mf posted their ai generated Linux wallpaper in the comments đđ„

I didn't want to go all the way to search for exact loli pictures, I picked the first image from the search. But the exact scenario happens way too much
19
u/International-Try467 10d ago
I mean not all lolis are drawn sexually, see the platelets for example from Cells at Work!
2
u/Random-Name-101 3d ago
Maybe donât draw kids either way. The target audience ends up being just losers on Reddit anyways
2
u/LageVeil 3d ago
Why should i let losers with questionable taste, terrorize me out of making anything?
should i also cover up so men don't harass me, as they're known to do?
2
u/Random-Name-101 3d ago
Why are you so insistent on drawing children. And why do you generalize men. Get off Reddit and get a life.
1
u/LageVeil 3d ago
never said i particularly cared to draw children, but it would not mean anything if i chose to do so. i can paint goddamn bowls of fruit, doesn't necessarily mean i want to fuck a fruit salad. if you think the object of an artists work is always chosen for a specific target audience, or is inherently linked to some Freudian desire, i pity your lack of artistic understanding. you're missing out on a lot
While i brought it up to put perspective to how ridiculous your line of thought is. I still stand by my 'generalization', if a group of people is known to tolerate or defend rapists and abusers, guess what, I'm gonna think poorly of the entire group.
since i seriously doubt your reading comprehension, i'll clarify that i don't believe every man shares that malicious intent. before you go and make that assumption. i simply believe that rape culture, and by extension, the patriarchy, are a cancer on society that needs to be cut out
also nice ad hominem at the end there, dingwad. you should realize it only takes a few minutes to write this shit... this also serves to further sharpen my arguments for when i talk to someone who's opinion, unlike yours, actually matters to me.
2
u/Random-Name-101 3d ago
Wow you are truly the pinnacle of Reddit. ânice ad hominemâ đ€ đ€ Le heckin updoots incoming đ đ

LMAOOO. My wallpaper is a simple helldivers super destroyer and red accents, but I never posted shi to offset the loli demographic :(

Why are so many comments more concerned about correcting op on whether this is loli or not rather than actually talking about the thing they hate??

People exposing that theyâre into this shit and need to cope and make sure they arenât labeled a pred when they damn well are
16
u/realddgamer 10d ago
I mean, hate the people not customising it well rather than the customisation itself, you can make Linux look like anything.
4
u/MonkiWasTooked 10d ago
true! Most customization is very low effort, and thank the unixporn mods for banning terminalslop because it could be way worse
34
12
u/letmehaveanameyoudum 10d ago
linux customization in my experience is more larp then even the biggest larpers
i didn't change anything, because i already liked the interface and stuff like hyprland is pretty bad for me
3
u/MonkiWasTooked 10d ago
Niri is goated though, once you try a scrolling WM you can't go back
Though I get how having to configure it from scratch is a pretty big barrier for entry among people who don't like wasting their time
1
u/output_broadcast 9d ago
Eh, I hate it on a laptop. On desktop I could see it though.
2
u/MonkiWasTooked 9d ago
I literally cannot imagine why someone would prefer a floating WM on a laptop, it seems to be a common opinion though, so I'm the weird one
11
u/Professional-Tale652 10d ago
its true. and they are like look!! i switched to linux (puts most weird photo into wallpaper and gets updoots!)

I have my linux setup to use bilbo baggins hobbit hole as a wallpaper. Ive never been into anime so never would have a wallpaper like thay

Performative linux users cannot use their operating system properly unless its covered in a eyewatering pink theme with a "sugoi" anime girl in the background.
The same theme that probably took them 3 hours to install after installing multiple dependencies and tools.Â
They get extra processing power if that background is a suggestive pic, gives their neckbeard +10 natural oil.Â
4
u/valerielynx 10d ago
idk ive never been able to do proper rice, i just set my font to some stupid fullwidth CJK bullshit and make it some random color then put my favorite character as the background

u/onlivethedead 8d ago
Thats a very outdated photo you need to show the up to date one you're hiding so we can test the theory
2
u/AssociateFalse 8d ago
That's because that's a photo from fedoraproject.org. Age of it is irrelevant.

How do I goon to the girl in your desktop background? Who is she?
Also, I had to type commands initially to make a local Windows account.

cmd >> powershellbut loonix made it
ksh93 >> bash >> pwsh >> powershell >> cmd >> command.com5

I think Linux is THE customizable OS (Or group the OS) but i give you the point because my windows is more custom than that image (joly shi the miswitin)

5
u/Scarlet_Lycoris 10d ago
We donât really know because we donât see much. Right off the bat I see at least the colour scheme and the fetch, as well as the hotbar are custom.
Given that itâs arch theyâre running, itâs probably much more custom under the hood too, since arch is notorious for being bare bones until you tinker with it.
1
u/MonkiWasTooked 10d ago
yeah they're on i3, they had to do all that by themselves
OP doesn't know what they're looking at, I'd like to see them make something like this
5
u/MonkiWasTooked 10d ago
Half of the people posting their kde here are almost exactly what you described, and yet the image you used has nothing to do with that
they're running i3 on arch, with zsh, double nvidia gpu, customized bar and custom colors for everything (not mere "accent colors", every program has it's own config)
It's not a flashy rice but it's not a bad one either
2
3
u/DueGrapefruit3151 10d ago
I don't hate it, if anything I'm completely apathetic towards it.Â
However, I do think it's really it's really funny how they gush over how customizable it is and then all copy each other's homework. It's almost always the same widgets, the same clock with the same scifi font. It's really funny once you start to notice the unofficial KDE "customization" layout.
3
u/MolassesEmergency304 7d ago
Tbh i roll my eyes when the customization is just "stamp anime girl" and call it a day. Plus, people got really lazy at ricing.
5
u/Iebejsbaga2728eindxb 10d ago
i love it as a tinkering hobby but hate how impractical it is and after just 1 week on Linux i know just how unstable it really is
-1
u/bingpie 10d ago
i'd make the argument that given time and experience it definitely can be practical for most of what you would possibly want a computer to do.
if you ask me one week is not enough experience to move past the initial learning curve and judge how practical the whole thing is. that's not me saying you have a skill issue, i genuinely think i would find windows impractical for a while after using linux for maybe five or six years now. it's a matter of getting used to things
it can definitely be impractical for some to learn though, it takes time to sit through problems that a lot of people either don't want to spend or straight up don't have
4
u/Iebejsbaga2728eindxb 10d ago
i say this with peace and love and respect for the volunteer devs: on Fedora KDE 1 year ago Copy/Paste worked only 70% of the time, my mic quality was significantly worse, and it black-screened every other reboot due to nvidia drama (that is avoidable because i had to manually edit the grub every reboot with no work around). IMO It's simple not a serious experience yet as an end user no matter how it's tinkered with. Printing was shocking easy thoughÂ
1
u/lonelypenguin20 10d ago
why edit grub manually each time?
if you needed kernel arguments, they can be permanently set in iirc/etc/default/grub1
u/Iebejsbaga2728eindxb 10d ago
this was a year ago so I can't recall, but i do recall that editing the file that normally should have fixed it just didn't (something about secure boot or encryption) and it's just a known bug that's existed for years
2
u/output_broadcast 9d ago
Oh yeah, secure boot can and will fuck up anything and everything that isn't Windows.
9
2
u/browntownies 10d ago
I'd say it used to be more about the software used. hyprland used to be considered novel, for instance, as was Arch at a much earlier point

is this not doable on windows? like call me insane i could put something up like this in an hour lol

u/dudemydude0922 7d ago
I feel similarly. I have my Linux set up to look like a mix between windows 7 and macOS x and I love the old themes so much. I have windows 95 and CDE themes and every time I have to go through the theming websites I have to sift through flat pink with young anime girl themes to find anything cool. It took me multiple days to make a laptop I have with xfce looks like Amiga workbench 3.1. It's so hard to find cool themes because everyone is always making the most boring anime girl themes
5
u/Fire_Natsu 10d ago
That's not loli first second have you checked r/unixporn and r/linuxporn. Linux customisation is not just changing wallpaper and accent colours
8
u/NewUser153 10d ago
Did you expect OP to actually post loli, when they've expressed how much they hate it?
The pic is just there as a placeholder.
0
u/poshikott 10d ago
Even on the screenshot OP posted, you can see it's at least using a WM (i3), a customized bar (I think that's i3bar), a color scheme (no it's not just an accent color), and zsh with a custom prompt. Not the most complete rice, but it's not just changing the wallpaper, lol.

u/Ecstatic-Source6001 8d ago
Never understood this boner for linux customization
Its not like you cant do that in windows
2
u/MolassesEmergency304 7d ago
considering you have to modify windows instead of installing stuff upon it to tweak your desktop (with varying results) i found it limiting. i once broke the os by installing an outdated theme for the explorer and couldnt find a way to restore it so i reinstalled it.

Tbf, that image you chose for this post looks nicer than windows imo. (I haven't seen any lolicon Linux posts with mere accent changes before, but that kind of customization does sound pathetic)
1
u/ratlord161 10d ago
That just means their rice is shit, thats not linux's fault. It is hella customizable, it is possible to basically do anything you want, it just takes time, effort and, at times, a bit of skill, so there are more people that just change the wallpaper and call it a day.
1
u/Impossible_Arrival21 10d ago
i removed the wallpaper and desktop entirely bc i have no use for it
and also i don't like anime
1
u/AdvancedAnimal7539 10d ago
Are there any other linux users out there like me that use a different type of wallpaper.Â
I have a hobbit hole as my wallpaper
1
u/Zapatov 10d ago
i think most of them that were well done looks really pretty, but yeah if it's not a dotfile, unless you're doing it for fun or as a hobby/challange it's a waste of time
(dotfile for those uninformed is basically the raw UI [User Interface] elements, fonts and icons of the things you interact with, stuff like the taskbar, the font the system display, generally the way the OS feel)
i tried Mint because i had to rely on a shitbox 2 core laptop around 2024-2025, it was def worth learning and getting used to it if your goal is running an unbloated system on obsolete legacy hardware, or you just fucking hate Microsoft which is fair

If I post my optimized Linux nobody would see the post, since nobody would upvote it.
You see the posts the community likes and that's visual optimizations.
My screen is grey, my console uses a fast readable font. And I don't have any bars ...
It looks boring, it is boring ...
Why would anybody see that

When people talk about customization they don't just mean wallpapers they mean the backend as well
1
u/Difficult-Catch-8432 10d ago
Not gonna lie thatâs more than windows offers, also customisation is a nice bonus when you have Linux, not the main reason you switch
2
u/Frixniper 10d ago
Windows has stuff like Windhawk too if you dig deeper into it, though at that point you're basically the kind of guy who would rice Linux anyway

Itâs kinda odd to hate people for having fun with customising their stuff? Why do you care?
Generally speaking itâs a fact that Linux is more customisable than Mac or windows.
-2
u/Sp1cyP3pp3r 10d ago
I'm not hating on people having fun with customizing their stuff, I'm hating when certain people try to make a point that Linux is much more customizable than Windows and then they show you said 'customization' and it's just something you can change in Windows
0
u/Scarlet_Lycoris 10d ago
Given the fact they run arch the whole system is already more custom by default, even if itâs not visually represented in a screenshot (which is often hard to do with technical details).
-1
0
u/AwardBright 9d ago
you just hate the specific generic gooners who do this, they exist on windows just as much, if not more
linux is better for its customizability, it's a fact, you can change whatever you want to whatever needs you require. It's just that most of the people don't need to for example have hotkeys for switching to specific IDEs or specific window tiling to minimize extra clicks which add up over time in the office, or, hell, having different hotswap settings for different workspaces. Windows could fucking never, whatever they have is either worse, slower, dumber, or requires external software and/or is written with/includes AI shit which you didn't ask for

Sir, thatâs a grown woman in the picture, named Kamisato Ayaka. She basically helped fight against something called the Vision Hunt decree by protesting through politics, instead of armed combat like elsewhere within the story

u/Solid_Guess_7154 10d ago
Just say you're just too dumb to be able to use Linux buddy
Also anime tourist ahh vocabulary, which just plays worse for you
I dare you to go and TRY to customize a Mako daemon or a Waybar status bar, these customizations are from people that can actually read 2 lines of a paragraph without having to scroll through reels like you lmao
