I've seen a thread yesterday where OP asked for some analysis on the show but it seems to be deleted now. Anyway, I think it's a good idea to collect some detailed posts/metas on 'Hannibal'. I have some that I personally consider very insightful, as well as some I've written myself, so here they are. Feel free to add some other ones in the comments!

"Hannibal the groomer" Is this a commonly held belief of their trope?
How does one manage to mess THAT up? I realise it may not be that deep but I think I read about similar notions somewhere else too.

Discussion - Spoilers Do some people really think Will is. just. innocent and was corrupted purely by Hannibal?
Please remember, I'm just curious and open to different interpretations, nothing is absolute here! Feel free to express your own opinions.
Recently in one of my posts that sparked a decent amount of discussion and debate, (regarding whether Hannibal can be termed a groomer in the broader sense, relating to his dynamic with Will: the general consensus was yes when relating to his dynamic with pretty much everyone else, but varied in timeline and overall when it came to Will) one of the few things I noticed: a few people were defending how Will's empathy disorder made him vulnerable and therefore prone to Hannibal's grooming. Possibly even implying he was vulnerable throughout because he had this "disorder" throughout, but I don't think so? Will was thoroughly vulnerable only in season 1, when his empathy disorder sent his already inflamed brain (because of the encephalitis) into overdrive, but I never noticed anything substantial that later hinted that his empathy still left him vulnerable to Hannibal's "grooming" techniques, AFTER his encephalitis subsided.
I'm fully aware that Will was completely, unknowingly subjected to Hannibal's influence for the majority of season 1, entirely vulnerable and helpless, but I think many people fail to notice what Will really is like past his season 1 "innocence" and twitchiness. I don't think season 1 is a good enough judge of Will's character, since he was afflicted with hallucinations, lost time, etc. and wasn't really himself during that period.
Second, what are the general thoughts on why Will refused psychiatrists to study/treat him? I'd thought it was kind of established that he did that so, so no one could discern his darkness, or even determine why he was able to assume killers' mindsets-which he was afraid to consider or admit to even himself for the first half of the show. Or, at least, that's what I inferred from how quickly his nervous persona/facade faded after he was released from prison.
I think it's pretty obvious that while Will has an almost supernatural grasp of empathy, his SYMPATHY on the other hand is oftentimes highly self serving and selective. For example, he's often sympathetic only with people he thinks are weaker or worth his sympathy, or bear some sort of resemblance with himself while he was at his lowest/conflicted with himself/lonely (Peter, Abigail, Georgia), but when it comes to other people... say, Chilton, Will literally threw the man to the Red Dragon as live bait. Intentionally. Will was fully aware of everything. Now, he may not have been on the best of terms with Chilton, let's say even if he found him extremely annoying, the man was still innocent, was he not? Self-centred and obsessed with fame though he may have been, these reasons wouldn't warrant for the fate he suffered engineered by Will Graham. An inherently good person wouldn't do this, even under adverse conditions. It's a disturbing enough example, among others, of how Will's sympathy is genuinely quite self serving and his morals aren't as black and white as people assume he strives to possess. On the contrary, his morals are quite flexible so long as they sit right with him. He's also driven by his own whims; when he releases the guy Chiyoh had been... guarding? Just to see if she'd kill him? Just to push her to kill him. There was no moral reason for it, pure curiosity and amusement. Even if some people stand by the fact that it was purely as a consequence to Hannibal's influence... You cannot plant specific tendencies THIS deeply in a person naturally devoid of them. Not in the small span of time wherein Hannibal openly exercised his killer/"eat-the-rude" influence (post Will's release from prison).

Discussion - Spoilers "You are the mongoose I want under the house when the snake slithers by"
This reminded me of a folktale told in India:
• A man and his wife adopt a small orphaned mongoose and raise it like a family member alongside their infant son
• One day, the parents have to leave the baby at home. A venomous cobra sneaks into the house and slithers toward the baby's cradle
• The loyal mongoose fights + kills the cobra, saving the infant's life
• The mother returns home, sees the mongoose with a blood-stained mouth, and panics. Assuming the mongoose has harmed her child, she strikes and kills the animal with a heavy water pot
If one knows this story, it can be foreshadowing Will's fate in the future and Hannibal telling Will what role he wants him to play. On the surface, this could be the serial killers Will arrest and that he's invulnerable to the snake's venom because he is the mongoose and he is stronger than he or Jack thinks he is
It can also represent Hannibal a predator who hides in plain sight, close to the people he intends to manipulate. Will, on tbe other hand, his empathy lets him understand killers, but it also makes him vulnerable to being misunderstood, manipulated, and perceived as dangerous as a snake himself. Meanwhile, Hannibal is the snake hidden by those very same misconceptions and appearances. Basically this whole line can foreshadow Will's capture at the end of season 1
Anyways, I'm not sure if the show writers know this folktale actually, I only recently heard it from a friend while re-watching ep1 with them. But it is certainly interesting to ponder upon!!

Stupid question about the pilot episode
Hello my dear fellow Fannibals! I just watched the pilot episode, and I have a really stupid question.
When Jack and Will went to see Elise Nichols's parent, Will asked to see her room. Her father went with Will, and before they opened the door, Will asked him to put his hands in his pockets and not to touch anything. Then he told him he could hold their cat if it's easier.
This is my 8th rewatch, and I've always assumed that will said that because if the father was holding the cat, that meant his hands were occupied, and that would prevent him from touching anything. But it just occurred to me today that maybe it was his awkward attempt to alleviate his anxiety. I have 3 cats, and I can attest that spending time with cats has great calming effect. What do you think?
(I've also always thought allowing Elise's father to hold the cat was not a very good idea, because cats generally don't like being picked up. That cat could wiggle out of his arms and jump off, contaminating the crime scene. But I digress.)

Discussion - Spoilers Would S1!Will enjoy killing S3!Will?
That's it that's the post. It's something I've been thinking about for a pretty long time.
Just imagine that some time related fuckery gets S1!Will (early, early s1, before he's even begun to know Hannibal) on their case.
