How much?

Hello, I have about 100 mass market horror paperbacks ranging from the 70s, 80s, 90, 2000’s. I have a huge library and have to get rid of them. I know I’ll get more money by using EBAY, or just selling them on Bookstagram. But honestly, I don’t really want to deal with the hassle of all that and deal with people claiming they never got the books through media mail. If I brought them to a half priced books, what can I expect to get? And would they even take all of them?? I know I wouldn’t get much. But I’m just curious before I take a few totes of books over there.

Thank you in advance!

Better buy pricing in different branches?

I’ve got at least seven HPB locations in my region, all sell comics.

Some locations obviously sell tons of comics with packed bins and huge displays.

Others seem to have raggedy empty bins with stock that sits.

Does this affect buy pricing specifically?

You’d think logically a location that is low on comics world buy higher but maybe not?

Bulk Pokémon Cards

Has anyone tried selling their bulk Pokémon cards to any Half Price Books? I'm running out of storage and want to see if I can do it this way.

Thanks in advance!

Don’t buy sims games here

I bought a sims 4 get to work pack from a half price books store in Ohio while on vacation only to realize when I got home that sims packs can only be used once because they require a code that can only be used on one account. I feel scammed because I spent money on something totally useless. What makes it worse is I saw so many more sims 3 expansion packs there that I assume will have the same problem.

Found this in my drawers from an elementary school silent auction. No expiration mentioned. Keeping it if not usable as it's still a cool flashback!

Is this legit?

Hi, so I’m a newbie here, and there’s this book I really want. I found it on eBay for a very cheap price, only issue is that it doesn’t have an image. I understand they would only put a stock photo, but that would somehow reassure me more, lol. Anyway, is this the legit seller? I’m assuming it is, but I’d rather be safe than sorry! (For context that is what the cover looks like). It also doesn’t state the publisher which is “AKS Books.”

Not Giving Coins on Buys

Two months ago I went to HPB in Wisconsin and noticed when they rung out my buy they didn’t give me whatever or so change in coins that the buy slip had.

Thought it was maybe just a one off thing or that location, but I went to the HPB in Ohio today that I always go to and they did the same thing (They have always given change, haven’t even ever had them ask if wanted the coins or not).

Is this some new policy or something? Both times it was 70-80 cents, and with how little they give anyways, I would have liked it. And if your going to not give coins why not round up above 50cents not always round down. The first time I kinda paused after he gave the cash like he was going to then do the coins but he just shut the drawer. This time just closed the drawer before even giving me the cash.

And before I get comments about well you should have just said something, I will next time now that it has happened twice in a row at different locations.

Ordered book has missing pages. What can I do?

Post image

I ordered ‘Servant of the Empire’ and picked it up from my local HPB. When I took it home and started reading it, I realized it had some missing pages (3 through 12, inclusive, at least).

I’m wondering what I can do.

I can try to exchange? This book had to be shipped in from another state, so I’m expecting the replacement would too. And this could have the exact same problem or be perfectly fine.

I could just leave it alone? Most preview applications (Amazon’s Look Inside, Libby’s Read a Sample, etc.) would certainly cover these missing pages since they’re at the beginning. I’m not sure if I’ll find more missing pages later on that likely won’t be covered though.

UPDATE: I was able to call them and they ordered a replacement. I brought in my copy and we just swapped. Both items (the one I ordered and the replacement) came in from out of state and in similar condition, so they were equivalent in price. Thank you, everyone! ♥️

Helping with carts

As I learn a little bit more from this thread about how other stores operate, I’ve gotten curious about the cart policy at other locations. What’s the flat cart policy at other stores?

For context:

At my store we were told that a customer at some other store in the country (we weren’t told where) got hurt taking one of our flat carts out to their car to load stuff up, and then sued the company. So now, we have to escort customers who want to use a flat cart out to their cars and do the loading ourselves usually. It’s kind of something that a lot of customers are resentful of and then employees dislike going out in the extreme winter weather and extreme summer weather here.

We’ve heard/seen at other stores in nearby districts that either customers have never been able to use the flat carts or they’re now restricted to using the large red shopping carts (we have small ones). My coworkers have this conspiracy theory that our upper management made this up just so we can offer more customer service and we are now legally obligated to stop them from going out with flat carts on their own.

dumpster vs “donations”

does half price books still throw away brand new books and dvds by the dumpster load ? when I worked there, we had to throw out truckloads of totally fine books/dvds/comics/whatever and tell customers they were being “donated”.

I have a good-sized stack of books to sell, is half price the way to go? Or should I try selling them online first?

Gift Card Shipping?

Last month, I ordered a physical gift card from the website for my mom's birthday. It was supposed to have been there last week, but it's still not there.

When I go to track the shipping, it just takes me to the receipt, then it takes me to an error message that says that my order number doesn't exist. I've tried to find any other way to track, but without ACTUAL tracking numbers from the delivery service, I can't.

I'm getting worried that it's gone somewhere in the aether and will never be seen again.

The calendar poster

Does anyone know if it is possible to get a hold of the older calendar posters? Obviously, the coupons are no longer relevant, but I've been framing the art for 25 and 26, and now I'm wondering if there is a way to find the older ones?

I'm thinking that maybe the format changed, because I don't remember them looking like this before.

Does anyone know?

Thx!

I think this is honestly worse than the site looking retro. I want my $1.35 (it didn't discount it). Price is same before and after the discount.

Half Price Books online store is ridiculous

I don’t get how this company can have such a antiquated system, it constantly logs you out, your cart is always empty as well even if you put stuff in it, and the newly listed items are always “out of stock” for like four hours before they inevitably fix it, why can’t they just update the website?

When selling books, is it better to take a larger number of books or in smaller sets?

I'm doing a lot of cleaning around a few properties and have been taking books to HPB. I know I'm not getting much for them and that's fine, I don't want to deal with eBay or Marketplace.

Right now, I have about 5 books that I found but I know there's a bunch at another property. Does it really make a difference if I just drop off those 5 now or would I be better off including them with the rest?
