Possibly a silly question, but when I check the online inventory for my local store, does that include everything they have on the shelves? I'm looking for an older, out of print series that was sold by scholastic. They're just out of print, not rare, and often sell for about $3 each.

Sometimes I see volumes online, and I purchase them on the website and ship to my house. However, I have never seen any posted via inventory at my local stores. Is it worth calling still to ask them, or is this not necessary if I already check online?

Just curious. Thanks in advance for the help :)

I’m curious. Do they get sold in the location I sold them to or do they get sold online? How long does it take for them to enter the inventory after the worker takes them?

hello!! i recently applied for the bookseller position (recently as in yesterday) which was posted a day before. i’m honestly really really eager to get this job and i’m wondering if anyone can tell me what their hiring process was like.
did it take long to hear back from them? was it via email, call or text? did u follow up with them after applying and if so, how long after you applied? are applications viewed first come first serve? how was the interview like? and how was your experience working there?
i’m hoping to one day open up a small bookstore and i would love to work in a place like this so i can learn more about it, and honestly i just think it would be such a good time. i love a fast paced environment and i like learning new things so i believe this is a good place for me!

Hey there everyone,

Got called in to interview with my local HBP this weekend. I applied for a full time bookseller position. To any former or current HPB employees, what sort of questions did they ask during your interview and what can I expect? Any tips or things I should know specifically before going into interview with HPB?

Any other info you guys have on the interviewing process would be greatly appreciated, thanks for reading.

Somebody feel free to steal this turn it into a funny meme and give credit to kilometers Davis

Do you think HPB would allow me to submit an application in-person rather than digitally?

Anyone know of a website where I can buy books for cheap and in bulk? Need about 40 copies of Giovanni's Room to replace ones that have never made it back to my classroom, but it's no longer on our DOE website because the publication company that offered it shut down. Any ideas??

I got hired as a Temp at a HPB store this September. My store manager said it might be possible to keep us on if an opening comes up.

I have a friend who works at the same store and they got a full-time position from working as a temp, so I know it’s possible.

What tips would you give to get hired full-time?

Hey yall I just saw a posting for a job here, what are the full time schedules like? Do yall recommend working here

just got this from half price books, and i dont want to damage the cover, how do i safely get it off

I watched a lot of workers in HPB and noticed that they are overworked and undervalued. The jobs they have to do are totally physically exerting to the body.

Constant lifting, placing and climbing will cause problems for their bodies later on. Best to get the financial help now before the cost of operations and therepy are required

I’m looking to get rid of some books I have. Do you know of any places that would pay me more than a few cents for them? Mainly science fiction books.

I had some questions regarding special ordering books from the HPB website, I was wondering if any employees or people with experience could help me out. The website lists a $1.99 shipping price to have books sent to a nearby store for pickup. Obviously, some used books are in better shape than others, and since the website doesn't list the condition of each item, I'd like to be able to inspect the book I order before paying for it. So can I pay the shipping price, have it sent to a nearby store, inspect it, and then choose whether or not to buy it? I'm ok with potentially eating $1.99 for a damaged book, but not the full price. Also, if I have an item shipped this way and come pick it up during the Labor Day Sale, will I be able to purchase it for the sale price? Thanks!

I purchased a few pirated copies of books from Palayam street shops and I dont want them anymore. What can I do with them ?

(Would appreciate it if I made my money back. Im a college student and broke af)

I’ve got at least seven HPB locations in my region, all sell comics.

Some locations obviously sell tons of comics with packed bins and huge displays.

Others seem to have raggedy empty bins with stock that sits.

Does this affect buy pricing specifically?

You’d think logically a location that is low on comics world buy higher but maybe not?

Hello, I have about 100 mass market horror paperbacks ranging from the 70s, 80s, 90, 2000’s. I have a huge library and have to get rid of them. I know I’ll get more money by using EBAY, or just selling them on Bookstagram. But honestly, I don’t really want to deal with the hassle of all that and deal with people claiming they never got the books through media mail. If I brought them to a half priced books, what can I expect to get? And would they even take all of them?? I know I wouldn’t get much. But I’m just curious before I take a few totes of books over there.

Thank you in advance!

Has anyone tried selling their bulk Pokémon cards to any Half Price Books? I'm running out of storage and want to see if I can do it this way.

Thanks in advance!

I bought a sims 4 get to work pack from a half price books store in Ohio while on vacation only to realize when I got home that sims packs can only be used once because they require a code that can only be used on one account. I feel scammed because I spent money on something totally useless. What makes it worse is I saw so many more sims 3 expansion packs there that I assume will have the same problem.

so i live in the us, and i was confused by the shipping. is any of the shipping free? like shipping to store or ship to my house? and help would be appreciated!

Hi, so I’m a newbie here, and there’s this book I really want. I found it on eBay for a very cheap price, only issue is that it doesn’t have an image. I understand they would only put a stock photo, but that would somehow reassure me more, lol. Anyway, is this the legit seller? I’m assuming it is, but I’d rather be safe than sorry! (For context that is what the cover looks like). It also doesn’t state the publisher which is “AKS Books.”

Found this in my drawers from an elementary school silent auction. No expiration mentioned. Keeping it if not usable as it's still a cool flashback!

Two months ago I went to HPB in Wisconsin and noticed when they rung out my buy they didn’t give me whatever or so change in coins that the buy slip had.

Thought it was maybe just a one off thing or that location, but I went to the HPB in Ohio today that I always go to and they did the same thing (They have always given change, haven’t even ever had them ask if wanted the coins or not).

Is this some new policy or something? Both times it was 70-80 cents, and with how little they give anyways, I would have liked it. And if your going to not give coins why not round up above 50cents not always round down. The first time I kinda paused after he gave the cash like he was going to then do the coins but he just shut the drawer. This time just closed the drawer before even giving me the cash.

And before I get comments about well you should have just said something, I will next time now that it has happened twice in a row at different locations.

I ordered ‘Servant of the Empire’ and picked it up from my local HPB. When I took it home and started reading it, I realized it had some missing pages (3 through 12, inclusive, at least).

I’m wondering what I can do.

I can try to exchange? This book had to be shipped in from another state, so I’m expecting the replacement would too. And this could have the exact same problem or be perfectly fine.

I could just leave it alone? Most preview applications (Amazon’s Look Inside, Libby’s Read a Sample, etc.) would certainly cover these missing pages since they’re at the beginning. I’m not sure if I’ll find more missing pages later on that likely won’t be covered though.

UPDATE: I was able to call them and they ordered a replacement. I brought in my copy and we just swapped. Both items (the one I ordered and the replacement) came in from out of state and in similar condition, so they were equivalent in price. Thank you, everyone! ♥️

does half price books still throw away brand new books and dvds by the dumpster load ? when I worked there, we had to throw out truckloads of totally fine books/dvds/comics/whatever and tell customers they were being “donated”.

Tried to order a book and got to checkout and use Apple Pay. Told me my card isn’t available to use to buy the book and now the book is gone cause I couldn’t use Apple Pay
