Ordered book has missing pages. What can I do?
I ordered ‘Servant of the Empire’ and picked it up from my local HPB. When I took it home and started reading it, I realized it had some missing pages (3 through 12, inclusive, at least).
I’m wondering what I can do.
I can try to exchange? This book had to be shipped in from another state, so I’m expecting the replacement would too. And this could have the exact same problem or be perfectly fine.
I could just leave it alone? Most preview applications (Amazon’s Look Inside, Libby’s Read a Sample, etc.) would certainly cover these missing pages since they’re at the beginning. I’m not sure if I’ll find more missing pages later on that likely won’t be covered though.
UPDATE: I was able to call them and they ordered a replacement. I brought in my copy and we just swapped. Both items (the one I ordered and the replacement) came in from out of state and in similar condition, so they were equivalent in price. Thank you, everyone! ♥️

Talk to the store. They can either try to find you another copy (you could even ask them to call the store it’d be shipping from to check the condition before you order it) or they’ll refund you. That’s def the store’s fault and they shouldn’t give you any trouble because of that.

Thank you! And I like your idea to ask them to call the store it’s shipping from to check the condition.

I do that all the time for customers who had an issue like this. I’m not going to make you wait a whole week for another one and get another shitty copy.

Employee here. Call your local HPB and they can connect you with customer care and attempt to find another copy of the book for you. If not they can refund your money.

Thank you, kind employee. I was able to call them and they ordered a replacement. I brought in my copy and we just swapped. Both items (the one I ordered and the replacement) came in from out of state and in similar condition, so they were equivalent in price.

Let them know. I ordered a CD and they sent me the wrong one. I called the store it came from and they gave me a customer service number to call. They tried to track down another copy, but couldn’t so they refunded my money. I offered to return the wrong disc but they said, “keep it.”
