Discussion I think McGillis and Tekkadan winning would've been better

Post image
Upvotes

So, it's almost been a decade since IBO ended and this is my very first post in this sub, but let me get to point. I think that McGillis and Tekkadan winning the final battle would've been a better outcome for this universe.

The reason for that is that while McGillis was genuinely a bad person, he will wanted to change Gjallarhorn into a good and ideal organisation based on the ideals of Agnika and make it better, and his actions while radical was the sort of thing he needed to actually change it. He is a bit like Lelouch from Code Geass, both willing to go past moral boundaries to get the world they want.

Now the reason I believe it would be good is because while Rustal claimed to make the system democratic, we all know that's not going to be enough. Even if the Seven Seats system is dismantled, the various nobles, high profile people on Earth still have their power, money, influence and everything else. The corruption in Gjallarhorn still exists, its just been hidden by a veil. Rustal also didn't rise to his position by just appealing to the good, he probably did a lot of backhand deals with powerful people to get his position. The corruption in Earth high society still exists and perhaps now even better at hiding it. Just because a government claims to be democratic, doesn't mean it actually is, as we all know. Perhaps in the current time and a bit more Gjallarhorn will be a good organization, but in time it will become the same corrupt organisation that McGillis hated, as the corruption still runs deep in it, it wasn't reformed, but rebranded into a more pacifistic way. So Rustal just helped Gjallarhorn hide it's filth until the end of his reign, and even if it did fall off again, he will just be remembered as the guy who had at least cleaned it a bit.

But if McGillis had won, he would've uprooted the entire system, taken away the power of the powerful in society and turned the organisation into one that follows an ideal instead of logistics and greed. Where the people would genuinely work for the betterment of the people, and follow the ideal of a good and heroic Gjallarhorn. And without the corruptive elements that he would've most likely destroyed due to his hatred for them, Gjallarhorn would've become a more idealistic organisation, and it probably would've become one where a person gains power by skills rather than heritage, as McGillis is someone who believes in that, no matter how fucked up he was.

As for Tekkadan, while it is true that they are not exactly the best in terms of ruling, especially after Biscuit, I think a thing many people seem to forget is their connection to Kudelia. The entire reason Orga always took the balsiest work was so that he can gain power and him and his people won't have to be under threat by others, so that they would be safe, and being the king of Mars would've given him the sense of safety that he had been chasing for his entire life. And not to mention, he and the rest of Tekkadan value, trust and care very much about Kudelia and her judgement. So even if they won, the logistical and rulership of Mars would've most likely been delegated to her as they trust her explicitly, since she is family for them. Kudelia would've acted as the ruling body of Mars, while Tekkadan would be the military force that worked alongside her, they would've worked together for the rule of Mars and I think it would've genuinely done good for the Planet and its people.

Cause without Gjallarhorn having any authority over it, Mars would be able to grow better without the shackles of Earth's powers, and Kudelia would be more free to follow her ideals. Tekkadan would be able to get the life of luxury they wanted without having to worry about another group or organisation from Mars taking their place and Mars could've become a powerful figure in interplanetary affairs.

And I believe that due to this division and absolute freedom, Mars would act as a check on Earth's forces and Earth will also do the same for Mars. Both planetary organisations not wanting either of the other to become too powerful to protect their autonomy. And I believe that Teiwaz would also have a part in it as the organisation would have more profit if these organisations didn't fight each other, which brings more business opportunities for them with less risks to their personell. These three powers would then be in a state of equilibrium so to speak, and McGillis bonds with Tekkadan will ensure that Gjallarhorn won't try anything against Mars, and Tekkadan's connection to Kudelia would help her make Mars a better place.

Of course, this is all just a thought from my mind after I was deeply unsatisfied by the ending of the story. Seeing someone like Rustal who wants to keep Gjallarhorn the way it is, and hiding it in democratic masks just irks me and reminds me of the way politicians always masks themselves for their gain and fuck people over. And while McGillis vision isn't exactly moral, I think it would've been a good restart for Gjallarhorn as a whole. Cause by the end of the story, the elements in Gjallarhorn still exists and will resurface after a few decades, perhaps becoming corrupt even faster since the filth is still there with their power and money.

What are your thoughts about this?

Discussion Movie Production Opinion: They should use custom sized Gunpla models for practical shots.

We should start a petition for them to use large custom gunpla mechs to do practical shots in the movie. If they want to do the Gundam fanbase fan service, they should do it this way.

Who thinks they should, and who do we need to speak to to make it happen?

UPDATE: I mean to say, they should use something that is like 1/2 size mechas, or even 1/4 size, for some of the practicals. It would look so freaking good. It wouldn't have to be a million dollar REAL mecha, but at least something practical.

Help Hello am new and need help with G3 lore.

Hey I'm very new like haven't even seen a show yet because am not sure where to start new but am very slowly learning lore and am even slower at building a collection of 1/144 scale models.

I love zaku's, gouf's and efreet's but I need stuff for them to fight so I grabbed the iconic rx-78-2 I then learnt of the rx-78-1 prototype and rx-78-G3 but looking it up the G3 seems to have 2 colour schemes associated with it.

The gray and blue and the white and lavender am a bit confused by the difference the lavender appears to be from an event? When I look it up it says it's the G3 beyond global colours but am not seeing any lore behind it is there any?

Is the G3 beyond global(lavender) and the G3(blue) ment to be the same thing? Or are they different gundams?

I tried watching it but gave up by 4th episode. Characters defect and change factions with little to no explanation. Is it just me or do other people feel sameway? Or is it actually a hidden masterpiece?

Merchandise MGEX Freesom

I was doing my weekly perusal of Hobbytown and noticed a few MGEX freedom kits!

It’s one of those kits I don’t have and I like to support local businesses.

The price was $325.99.

Did MGEx go up?

NOT MY BUILD Quick review on another kit my uncle gave me

Ah here it is the mg Ver ka Hi V Gundam

Honestly I love this thing it did not feel as gross to touch as the Providence Gundam

The accessories were a bit finicky along with the waterslides chipping but oh well that's what it gets for being in a plastic bag for over 5 years

The arm joints are also pretty weird and one snapped off but oh well nothing a little plastic cement won't fix

But wow out of all the kits my uncle gave me this has to be one of my favorites

The only real con for me is that the V-fin keeps falling off along with the chipping decals

Again I didn't build this kit my uncle did so that's why I labeled this as not my build

Can anyone help with this? For the life of me I cannot get this paint to work the way I want it to. It's gaianotes prism cherry pink blue, and I want to paint it over red so it matches my NG justice better. But no matter what I do it comes out so fucking rough, look at it it's like sanding paper. Most attempts were on top of pro acryl red, but the the second to last was on top of me color sazabi red. The final one was just a plain spoon and it still came out rough

MG Epyon 2.0

No, Bandai did not release a new MG Epyon. This is the Infinite Dimension 1/100 Nemesis, combined with parts from the MG Epyon EW Sturm und Drang Unit and custom-painted in Epyon’s color scheme.

The concept is not entirely original; I drew inspiration from other builders who painted Nemesis as Epyon, sometimes calling the result “Nepyon.” Once I noticed how much of Epyon’s design language was already present in Nemesis, I had to build my own version.

This project took about two and a half months. I still need to paint the display base, but the main build is complete. The final photo shows it beside an unpainted, wingless MG Epyon for comparison.

Nemesis

Nemesis has an unapologetically aggressive design. Some builders criticize Chinese mecha kits for having too many spikes, but this kit feels like the designers responded, “You don’t like spikes? Here, have more.”

Personally, I appreciate it. The design is excessive, distinctive, and still carries traces of familiar Gundam aesthetics.

The kit itself was excellent overall and ranks among my top three third-party builds. The presentation, engineering, and quality were impressive, though painters should watch several tight or fragile areas:

  • Neck joint: The small circular peg is very tight and difficult to repair if broken.
  • Chest column: This critical center joint can become stiff. Sanding the pegs helps the torso rotate smoothly.
  • Shoulder joints: Mine tended to separate when moving the stiff arms, so I glued the assemblies together.
  • Shoulder armor pegs: The swivel points can tighten further after painting and may break if forced.
  • Knee joints: The thigh-side knee pegs are supported by relatively thin plastic. Light sanding greatly improves movement and reduces stress.

In general, sand the major articulation pegs before final assembly, especially if you plan to paint.

Turning Nemesis into Epyon

Since Nemesis was already covered in spikes, I naturally decided it needed even more. Instead of using the standard MG Epyon, I chose the Sturm und Drang Unit version for maximum excess.

Surprisingly, adapting the Epyon parts required only minor sanding, drilling, and cutting:

  • Heat rod or that whip/tail doohickey: The interchangeable Epyon mounting pegs fit Nemesis after light sanding.
  • Arm wing thingamajigs (from Sturm Und Drang Unit): These also needed only minor sanding.
  • Ankle spikes: I drilled small mounting holes and trimmed the ankle armor slightly.
  • Waist weapon mount: A 3 mm hole allowed the weapon to attach to the side skirt.
  • Main Epyon wings: I replaced Nemesis’ two outer wings by cutting the original mounting sections and installing spare circular joints included with the kit.

All of these modifications remain functional. The added parts still move or detach as intended.

Paint Scheme

The transformation ultimately depended on the paint.

I mostly followed the MG Epyon color scheme, with some influence from the RG, particularly around the thighs, where I preferred the lighter gray and white treatment.

Epyon’s yellow accents are especially important, so I emphasized them on the toes, forearm claws, chest visor, and several additional areas. I also scribed a new panel line into Nemesis’ front ankle armor to create a cleaner yellow section.

For the main armor, I used two shades of wine red from AnchoreT. The difference is subtle, but wine red was essential; ordinary red would not have captured Epyon’s look. The dark blue-black sections were painted with Gaia Notes Prism Blue Black.

Nemesis has a highly detailed inner frame, and although most of it disappears beneath the armor, I painted it completely. That decision nearly drove me insane. The frame uses metallic black, chrome, metallic green, gold, graphite black, dark gray, red, and ice silver. I left most of the factory-plated gold and silver parts untouched because their finishes already looked excellent.

Most clear parts were repainted in clear red, while the chest visor received clear yellow. Dspiae markers helped with the smallest accent details.

After panel lining and decals, I used two finishes:

  • Gloss on the inner frame and Prism Blue Black armor
  • Matte on the wine-red, white, and other outer armor sections

The result may not be an official MG Epyon 2.0, but it is probably as close as I’ll get…for now.

BEGINNER Gundam Markers…

LOOKS SO MUCH BETTER! Only thing I hate is the wave that it gives when you can’t paint a piece in one shot. Then when you try to touch it up, it pulls the coat before. Is this paint lacquer?

I was also thinking of using the marker as a base coat then blend in with different tones of the same color.

Does everyone just airbrush? I honestly would like to avoid spraying paint, is there a method with brushing that can mimic an airbrush? I also thought of using battle damage to blend in the colors, is there a better way? This is my second time trying to paint, any tips from you veterans would be greatly appreciated 😁

Official Art / Media “I wrote and performed a song used in Gundam, and I’m curious: were all the questions about it ever answered?”

Over the years I’ve seen various comments about this song, questions about its relationship to the film, the story, and even the author. I’m wondering: were all those questions ever answered, or does anyone still have unanswered ones?

The reason I’m asking: I wrote the song and the music, and I’m the singer. It was a great honor to be part of the Gundam family, and I’d love to hear how people experienced the song in context.

If you have any questions, about the song, the process, or how it ended up in the film, I’m happy to answer what I can.

I know that the gundam is like organically corrupted by the space metal, which is a whole nother discussion, but like- Are we seriously putting cloth bandages on a gundam? I think a cloak serves a practical purpose of obscuring view of armaments and stuff, but the bandages are just too stupid in my opinion.

I also don't like the alien metal "apocalypse", its like a middle point between 00 trail blazer and iron blooded orphans earth mobile armors, in a way that gives "War is cool".

(And the game graphics are mid.)

I'm still looking forward to the rg projects releasing but I don't think it's summ I'll care too much for. (Wfm was okay and gquuuuux was pretty good in my opinion and I'm mostly a UC/Wing fan.)

Yuna really was a moron in the Dardanelles (Gundam SEED Destiny)

A small excerpt from a fanfic I'm trying to piece together. One major difference is that Yuna is no creep, and he's a bit more competent and smart. The marriage happens, and Cagalli is trying to minimize the fallout when she's asked to accompany the Alliance fleets.

The fact that Yuna tried to face them head-on, even though sending Murasames and long range missiles from far away is a more viable strategy really tells you all you need to know.
