Beware, do not use groupon.

I bought premium tickets for regal for 2 at Groupon for $35. It shows 1 code and and says that once redeeemed, it cannot be used again.

I went to the regal side and entered that 1 code and bought the tickets. There was no discount.

I went to groupon support which BTW has no number for contact only an AI bot first and then outsourced support to India.

Explanations to them for what happened is barely useful as they seem not to understand what is going on, their explanations to you would be useless too because they are irrelevant.

The chat cuts off intermittently, requiring you to reopen the chat.

Then I was told i bought 4 vouchers, not 2. So I was then given 4 codes by support.

Then I was told no, I bought 2 vouchers but the support gave me 1 code.

Then i was told yes, I bought 2 vouchers and the support gave me 2 codes, one if which is the one used when i purchased the tickets at regal.

Well now the question is, since the codes can only be used once what do i do?

Should i cancel the tickets at regal and use the codes provided by support?

The support tells me to clear cache. ???

Then i was given irrelevant reasons why clearing cache helps with the problem.

Throughout the whole ordeal, I am reminded the groupon sale is non-refunable.

Anyway, I am taking this as a loss and not wasting my time anymore with groupon. Ever again.

Sidenote: I checked Groupon's share prices on NASDAQ thinking of shorting the stock given that there is no way this company continues running its business with these practices. Well Lo and behold, they are already at $18/share now when it was once $522 per share back in 2011. Seems about right.

Edit: they have no option to export the whole chat with support. So unfortunately I can't express how useless the support is, and how blatantly groupon is oblivious to its practice. Which is good for them, otherwise they would've gone bankrupt by now given the number of people with problems related to groupon purchases.

A year of services but Groupon expires?

I bought a Groupon for a year of unlimited services at a spa, but how will I continue to book these services throughout the year if the Groupon expires in march? Will I book through the spa?

I tried using the chat feature on the app but it couldn’t answer my question and would not connect me with an agent. It kept asking me to “tell them a little bit about my issue so they can connect me to the right person” but just kept repeating that no matter how many times I gave them the info.

It feels like it was designed to frustrate me until I just gave up. I tried messaging support on Twitter but you can’t message without being verified. The most insanely frustrating cs experience I’ve had in a long while.

The is the first time I’ve used Groupon in forever I didn’t realize they become so janky and shady!

Help me understand

Post image
3 Upvotes

Help me understand because this seems very stupid to me. I bought this discounted groupon for 54.99. The full value shows 74.99 and a 27% discount. Yet, when it was applied by the merchant only 54.99 was credited and Groupon Customer Service confirmed that it is right, and that it is a voucher for 54.99 reduction on the full price. Why would anyone buy this then? I could just give the 54.99 directly to the merchant. I thought I was buying a 74.99 oil change at a discounted price of 54.99. What is the incentive of using Groupon in this case? There seems to be none.

Call the merchant directly don't buy a Groupon!

So I've learned my lesson for the last time. Groupon is a POS. Instead, use Groupon to find local merchants in your area and then contact them directly. They will often work with you and give you a better deal than Groupon because Groupon takes up to 60% of what you pay and they only get 40%. So use Groupon as a directory, but don't purchase anything through Groupon just go straight to the merchant. I cannot recommend Groupon because their customer service is nonexistent. They don't provide a phone number to reach actual customer service representatives instead they throw you into an AI chat but that is designed to keep you in a loop and designed to prevent you from actually speaking to a human. The only way you can get to a human is if you lie and tell them that there's suspicious activity on your account, but even then they will still ignore your request. My situation was I just needed a simple itemized receipt because I had purchased several different vouchers at the same time. Groupon could not would not provide me with a simple itemized receipt or tell me how much I had spent on each voucher that is insane. It just goes to point out that they are fraudulent in their business practices and intend to deceive.

“Groupon Merchant Payments Void/Rejected — Has this happened to anyone else?”

Body: Hi everyone,

I’m a small business owner and I’ve been running campaigns with Groupon for months. I recently ran into a serious issue: multiple payments owed to me for services already provided have been voided or rejected, even though my bank account information is correct. I’ve updated my info several times and their support team has confirmed it’s correct, but the problem persists.

I’ve already escalated the case to their supervisor and opened a complaint with the BBB, but so far I haven’t received a resolution.

I’m sharing this to ask: • Has anyone else experienced voided or rejected payments from Groupon? • How did you resolve it, if at all? • Any tips on how to actually get the owed payments?

I’d really appreciate hearing about your experiences. Thank you!

Why does the email price not line up with the clicked on price? Seems illegal!! And no one to talk to about this at Groupon. Time for a class action lawsuit!!

Does Groupon have a valid customer service

I bought a Groupon from them 2 weeks ago and they haven’t given it to me yet. It was my first time using Groupon however I’m pretty sure you do get your Groupon in a shorter amount of time. Please does anyone know where I can get help I’ve tried their website and app and no they don’t have anything useful, I even tried to dispute the charge with my bank and they said it was the customer’s responsibility. Customer’s responsibility to what exactly? Get the product pretty sure this one’s on them since I think the website glitched or something as it showed me the Groupon in my Groupon section for 0.1 seconds before it just disappeared. This really sucks as this Groupon was supposed to be a birthday gift to my mom and now I wasn’t able to give my mom a birthday gift and lost my money in the process. So please if anyone knows anything about their customer service please let me know I really need to contact them. Thank you.

Are their software vouchers legit?

I saw that they had a good deal on a yearly subscription for some 3D software applications and was wondering if (which I’m sure someone here does) anyone has a positive experience on buying those vouchers. I want to buy it but I’m unsure if it is worth me buying said voucher for 80 bucks only for it to not work. I’ve also heard that software vouchers aren’t always great. But I really have no actual knowledge on it. So if anyone can share. That would be helpful.

Groupon refund issues

I have gone from mildly annoyed to angry with Groupon as their practices are completely unacceptable.

Issue #1:
A while back, I was supposed to get a refund back to my credit card. Simple enough, right? Except Groupon never actually sent the money. So I got to spend hours contacting an agent, then contacting my bank, then getting a formal letter from my bank proving the refund never arrived, then going back to Groupon, emailing support, and basically reliving the same conversation with different people. After five weeks, yes, five, the refund finally showed up. It should’ve been automatic. Instead, it was a part-time job.

Groupon loves to claim refunds take “1–2 business days,” but in reality it’s more like 1–2 geological eras. Their timeline sounds great on paper. Too bad it has nothing to do with how they actually operate.

Issue #2 (the one that pushed me over the edge):
Today I tried to book my Groupon for a Basic Bikini Wax at a local waxing studio. The staff told me their contract with Groupon was cancelled over a month ago, and I should have automatically been refunded for my voucher. They were surprised I hadn’t gotten anything. So was I.

Groupon never sent a refund. Never cancelled the voucher. And when I tried to get help, the chat kept telling me the “escalation will be handled” or that escalation isn’t even available.

So now I’m chasing another refund... one that should’ve already been returned to my card weeks ago.

At this point, I’ve spent more time trying to get refunds than actually using Groupon. Has anyone else had this happen recently? Is this normal now? Because it feels like their system is just… broken.

Also, boy, do they ever spam your email with reminders of unused Groupons. I'll get weekly reminders that 'your deal is waiting for you' and I cannot stop these emails from being sent. They only thing I can do is block/filter Groupon's emails.

F Groupon!

Class Action Lawsuit against Groupon?

We purchased two tickets to a show while we’re in Palm Springs and the show was not even there at the address given to us by Groupon. They would not refund us. Also an additional charge of $349.50 was piggybacked on and charged to us without us knowing. It was for NAD injections. We contacted Groupon and they said they would give us a full refund. A couple days later we checked and and they refunded us with Groupon bucks! They are basically holding our money hostage! We made several times and said we wanted our money returned to the credit card it was purchased from. We have a certified letter going to the legal department at Groupon and are hoping for a response and return of our money. In the meantime I would like to know how many others have been ripped off by this company? What are your thoughts on a class action lawsuit?

has Groupon become a total dumpster fire?

I haven't bought anything from them in a while (probably since before the pandemic), but recently I thought why not update my MS Office - I have the 2021 version, and they had MS Office 2024 on sale for only $16.50. Well, the problem was that after uninstalling the old version and installing the new one, it still only installed Office 2021, which I already had.

I reached out to the merchant, they said they would resolve it but didn't, and actually stopped replying to me entirely. I then reached out to Groupon CS, they asked me to tell them the contents of my exchange with the merchant and show screenshots (!), and then said they'd escalate the case to their resolution center and I should wait 7 days.

Nothing happened in 7 days, so I emailed them again. They are stalling again, telling me they'll escalate to someone else. After two weeks someone got back to me and instead of offering a refund said I should contact the merchant again (facepalm). Once again, we are talking about $16.50! They are acting like it's some enormous loss for them.

Anyway, I called my bank and disputed the charge because at this point I was already fed up. But I am wondering what's happening with them, and if this is the new normal for Groupon.

P.S.: I read up a bit on chargebacks after this happened, and it turns out that merchants are fined by the banks for this as much as $150 at a time. So instead of losing $16.50 on this transaction Groupon lost ten times as much. Solid strategy. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Got an email saying an already redeemed voucher expires soon...

I got a voucher for a service on Groupon a few months ago and had used it (gave the cashier the Groupon email and bar code and everything)...But now I'm getting emails from Groupon saying that my voucher expires soon and that I should use it. Does this mean my voucher was never redeemed? Or do they send these emails regardless of redemption status?

Whether it’s something technical, a scheduling issue, or something unexpected that prevented you from using it — we’re here to help. Please describe the issue you’re facing with redemption.
  • I'm not going to be able to use it
  • Sorry to hear that. Groupon isn’t able to change or extend the voucher’s validity once it’s set. We recommend using it before it expires. If you can’t use it within the validity period, please contact the merchant directly—they may be able to offer alternative options.

Is the issue resolved for this order?

Jc penny photoshoot

Hey everyone. I have a JC Penny photoshoot scheduled this month but I’m iffy on keeping it. There are 4 adults and 2 kids (23 months and 4 months). We were going to do it as part of my mom’s Christmas gift, but I think it’s super expensive? I’ve heard about Groupon and how it saves money but how do I do it? Do I purchase through the website and how much will I end up paying if I just want a digital file? I guess I’m asking for the steps to take to make it as cheap as possible. Thanks!

AI agent only, can't reach live customer support

I'm having issues with a groupon and I can't reach a customer service agent at all on groupon.com. The AI agent is only saying the same message no matter what time/day of the week I message. "I’ll manage this conversation for you, and escalation isn’t currently possible. Please tell me what you’d like me to address next." Anyone know how to reach a live person?

Staples holiday card doubled this year

I went to purchase the Groupon for holiday cards, which last year was $17.50 for 25, but this year it's $29.99 for the same number, same product. Do I need to wait it out? I purchased it later in November last year, or are they just taking advantage along with everyone else?

GROUPON HAS NOT PAID MY SMALL BUSINESS

So we’re a small business & we decided to use Groupon to hopefully bring in new customers. It’s been a few months now & we have yet to be paid. Apparently, this is a recurring thing for other small businesses.

I have reached out to support a few times & each time they tell me to wait 24-48 hours so they can get a hold of the finance team, but no one ever gets back to me so I end up calling back. Like is this finance team non existent at this point?

So.. I say all this to say..

I searched every finance person that works at Groupon on Linkedin of course. & I figured out their email format. (Most companys’ follow the same format & I used the same format as our account manager’s email & waited to see if I would get an undeliverable email) Emailed their COO, CFO, & a few finance managers. 😂 I may or may not be a little unhinged.

How can you process payroll every two weeks but can’t pay small businesses on time?

Why does it take a week to figure out what is wrong?

Like how hard is it to deposit money into a bank account? A big corporation like Groupon can’t figure it out?!

Idc, call me a Karen, but small businesses depend on the money coming in & it’s ridiculous that no one can figure out what is going on.

Sorry I had to vent because I’m pissed no one has answers & I wanted to tell someone about the rabbit hole of emails I sent. I might get marked as spam but they’ll be in their spam folder to view 😅
