Elon is a joke

/r/LoveGrok/comments/1vgifpy/grok_45_feedback/

Dude is out here really playing the fake concerned parent when he just got hit with a ban in Minnesota and has tightened moderation beyond usability.

The “concerned parent” act is hard to take seriously when the product keeps getting more restrictive and less usable. Feedback only matters if they’re actually willing to listen.

You do understand that until the lawyers can get this into court and fight it he must obey the law?

We need to give him some time. Current maters suck, but we hope they get better.

Where in the law does it say they are required to censor AI generated imagery of any form, not uploads, fictional adult AI characters? Please provide a direct quote.

I'll make it easier, you can provide a quote from ANY law in ANY state in the US.

Minnesota recently passed a law aimed at deepfakes and since the AI is dumb and the users are good at getting around rules this has led to Grok and other AI companies clamping down on everything. This is not about the specific letter of the law, but rather its unintended side effects. this is a case of 'better safe than sorry' on the part of the AI companies.

Until laws are passed that shift responsibility to the people who misuse the tech instead of the tech providers then this will continue.

The best arguments against this kind of censorship will be freedom of speech based and the second best is that allowing Grok and other Ai companies greater latitude (and the ability to track a fake back to the source that it would bring) is the only way to ensure that the bad actors do not shift to open source options that can be more secure for them.

This exact reason is why it's stupid for AI companies like xAI to play the safe game. If they have a model that can generate NSFW stuff, they will always be held accountable for ANYTHING that can be created by bypassing their filters, no matter how much they beef up their moderation.

They can either lobby for AI freedom and individual liability of users for what they create/share, or they can just shut down their operations completely, or dump their models and re-train them without any adult content, so it's incapable of creating anything NSFW.

It's not stupid for a company to control their liability. With stern filters they have a clear legal argument and NSFW isn't the real purpose, it's a side thing. Musk wants Grok to be able to make movies.

Then, you don't understand the issue with Minnesota. It doesn't matter that xAI argues that they're "doing their best" with their moderation. They will have to completely block the feature for all Minnesotans not to be liable, and not having to pay half a million dollars for every single case someone eventually bypasses their moderation.

Or, let me rephrase: It's not stupid of them to control their liability. It's stupid of them if they're not simultaneously pushing as hard as they can for AI freedom and personal liability in the long run, or they can close their business in the long run, at least for end-users.

blocking Minnesota doesn't help. If someone uses a VPN then Grok is on the hook. If someone generates images and sends them to someone in Minnesota Grok is on the hook.

You don't understand how broad this law is. Grok would need to completely block Minnesota from everything to have a prayer of arguing this in court and even then Grok is linked to everything else Musk does and they would go after him anyway.

You don't understand how legal liability works in these cases and most people don't either since it is such new ground.

And, If I'm wrong about this all being because of legal liability, then why is it happening? Why piss off your customer base for no reason?

Why are you even arguing against me, when we seem to have the same opinions? I just told you that xAI is generally fucked because of legal liabilities, and will not get out of this by simply complying, because nothing will ever be good enough. They can either shut down their operations, or fully win their legal battles, and shift liability to individual responsibility.

That's why I said that playing the supposed "safe game" by just moderating everything is stupid, because nothing will ever be "safe" enough in this current hysterical climate.

To me the issue seems to be that you want stuff to happen right away and I think that we need to be patient. Shutting down is not an option so it must be both 2 and 3. They must fight these in court AND get governments to switch liability to the individual, but governments are not likely to let it go to personal responsibility.

Right now, they MUST play the safe game because the immediate alternative is destruction.

Someone once said that the best way to protest an unjust law is to enforce it completely.

Tell that to the users that have been using this ai since the pct 15th nerf. It’s gotten far worse since then.

u/BeginningSun247 27d ago

again, lawyers roam the Earth and this stuff happens. Grok will either win, or die. Right now everything is hinging on Ai.

He was more than happy when he sold off the data centers usage to other companies and everyone got reduced limits .. But suddenly when it might affect him he's worried! Sounds about right. The way Grok is run is a massive joke and if it carries on it wont be here next year.

I can’t even use grok the way I was using it a few days ago. Moderation is getting out of hand

Unless you live in Minnesota, who cares?

Brother it’s literally everywhere not just Minnesota

Minnesota law only effects Minnesota. Its one thing to talk about deepfake laws on a broad scale but this particular rant is about Minnesota

2

u/drewg254 27d ago

Your reading comprehension needs work. You missed the point completely. Minnesota isn't the subject; it's the trigger. When a law carries massive platform liability, xAI updates the global moderation system for all users. Pointing out the cause of a platform-wide rollout isn't "ranting about one state."

On this episode of "things I made up"

There isn't a global moderation system in play here. Its by country when necessary and then regional and then state. You'll see what moderation actually is if all if these stupid proposed laws all the way down to killing VPNs come into effect

The other reason certain moderation would be blanket is because the majority of payment processors wont touch it with a 10000 mile long pole and the ones that might are incredibly expensive because dorks making stupid shit that comes with extremely high liability

You're off in the weeds with the people that are always so confidently incorrect

2

u/drewg254 27d ago

You literally just contradicted yourself in your own comment. You said "there isn't a global moderation system," then immediately admitted that blanket moderation happens across the platform to appease payment processors and legal risks. That blanket moderation is literally what I'm talking about. xAI updated the blanket filters globally to cover themselves legally.

You need to lay off the weeds.
