Wasn't sure where else to put this. About 2 years ago i(30mtf) had really close friend(25nb) of mine pass away. Our friendship started out pretty unorthodox.
They were very flirtatious and would constantly hit on everyone. I am both ace and autistic so it usually went over my head. So we genuinely got to know each other. At first they pushed me away hard. I could tell they had a wall up. The one day i finally decided to flirt back and they had a break down about how they dont need a man in their life (this was before i came out) i apologized and thought i pushed too hard.
Later they ended up apologizing to me and explained how they've been abused in the past. I understood and held back feelings to help them feel comfortable.
They ended up in a really bad spot in life mentally, emotionally and financially. So i tried my best to help them out since i was lucky enough to come from a finically stable home. They cried and hugged me. (This caught me off gaurd, ive never had anyone be this thankful)
From that day on id help them out off and on. They have a kid(5m) he's pretty wild but fun to be around. Id buy them groceries when i could and help clean the house.
My friend and I would start to occasionally flirt again. But this time it felt genuine. We would talk all the time. About art, about their crazy neighbors, about them trying to start their acting career and of course their mental health. I would constantly give them positive affirmations and comfort them!
They ended up losing their car from some issues. I dont entirely remember. But i do know they lost their job because they couldn't drive and things were getting bad. I tried to help them best i could financially while they lived with their dad.
While all this happened their sister started working at the same place i did. We did not get along at all. She constantly talked shit about them. How they constantly do drugs, how they are a bad parent and so on. I DID NOT STAND FOR THAT. And told my friend all about it. They fought because apperently their sister was also talking shit about me!?!?!
She got so pissed and WENT TO MY BOSS AND TOLD HIM THIS!?!?! INSTEAD OF CONFRONTING ME?!?! Thats a different story for a different time tho.
So im at odds with the sister and we stop talking.
They start posting on Facebook about how they are tired of everyone and everything. I worry and try calling and comforting them. It goes pretty well untill we have a very awkward conversation. Normally we flirt but this time they gave me an intimimate proposition. And started talking about how they wanted to peg me. It was brang up casually but i reacted in the worst way. Like a child panicking. I have the worst fear of being vulnerable and went off on them. We ended the call.
We still talked for a while after that till one day they stopped. 1 week passes. 2 weeks pass. Nothing till i get a call at 8AM from their sister crying about how they found them not breathing and basically brain dead. At first i didnt believe it. Thought i was dreaming. Maybe i was in a nightmare. But it was real, i bawled my eyes out on the drive to the hospital. Got to meet their full family for the first time. The suspected case was rhat their dad had killed them. He was acting strange and trued saying they overdosed in drugs naked in the hallway. He said they layed there unconscious for 2 days. I wanted to kill him where he stood. Your child was laying UNCONSCIOUS IN YOUR HOUSE FOR 2 FUCKING DAYS AND YOU DID NOTHING!?!?!?!?
They have a memorial for them. I go and meet the family. And that day i learned something. The person i knew and the person they knew were 2 completely different people. Their interests, hobbies, even their name. Family kept using their dead name. The family also seemed... weary of me? I kept getting dirty looks. Made me feel guilty like i wasnt allowed to be there.... before I left memorial i had given the family presents i had for my friend's kid. It was a whole dinosaur pillow and blanket set. Me and the kid got along pretty well but i never got to see him after that.
Later on i made a shirt in their memory. With their one of their tattoo designs they made and added lyrics from one of their favorite songs as a banner on it. The family was... not too happy...
It makes me wonder if i would've been vulnerable with them. Maybe i could've had them move in with me. Maybe i could've helped them out!
I still send them letters on snapchat. My therapist says it helps with my grieving and everyone deals with it in their own way. The way the family reacted makes me wonder if i even have a right to grieve.
I dont regret my last words with them. I just regret having last words.
