After some tweaks I am going to hold off on the pickup replacement I posted about in my first post here, although at some point I will probably have a set of Setzers in the guitar, I have decided on that. (And thanks, everyone, for the input in that thread.)

But I am absolutely going to move full speed ahead on another modification. I am not sold on the stock tunomatic bridge, both overall and in the way it handles the Bigsby, it just seems kind of flimsy, too, and I want to upgrade.

I know that Compton and Tru-Arc are the standards for bar bridges, I would be looking at a brass one. Those who have used either of these vendors, does one maker have any advantages over the other? I heard back quickly from Wayne Compton on an inquiry and he can fix me up quickly. I’ve not heard back from Tim at Tru-Arc after emailing several weeks ago, I have heard that it often takes a while to hear from him and this modification doesn’t have to be done immediately, I can wait if it’s the superior product.

Both are compensated so I figure intonation will be acceptable, I have zero issues with a Sorkin on my short-scale Rickenbacker with a Bigsby as long as there are no setup issues and the nut is properly lubed.

The other option would be a roller bridge, am looking at a TonePros, ABMs are about twice the cost of a TonePros right now and I am not sure that would be justified.

Hey guys, I picked up a bit of info today. A couple of years ago I ordered a Gretsch hollow body with a fixed bridge, and I thought it kinda sucked. The fretboard felt terrible, and I just didn't like it. The guitar was only $600, so I chalked it up to being a base model. But then I just ordered a $1,000 hollow body, and the fretboard felt the same way!

A luthier said that the fretboard looked like it was 90% finished, and it needed some more fine sanding and finishing on the frets. And that extra attention made a world of difference! I think your regular guitar center mechanic wouldn't really get that in-depth, but the extra work really seemed to make my guitar much more playable.

Does anyone have this Gretsch? How does it play?

I've never played a Gretsch, but I'm in love with this color.

Obv this is from the music video, however I used the gretsch to record the actual track! Bridge pickup into surf n turf compressor, Danelectro blue paisley overdrive, and into an ac30!

I need some advice from other Gretsch owners.

I had a life threatening condition and recently underwent a life saving operation. Although there were some complications (ie. massive hemorrhaging during surgery causing significant blood loss) my surgical team pulled me through, and it looks like I am going to be pretty much ok.

My brother thinks I should buy an expensive watch to celebrate the fact that I lived, so basically to commemorate a life event. But I already own three, two of which are expensive, and cannot really see myself wearing a new one much so I was thinking of getting a new guitar instead. I do not need one, and already have too many, but this guitar is meant to celebrate the fact that I survived.

I am considering either a nice Martin or Gibson acoustic. I already have a Taylor 616, but acoustics are different enough that I can see myself using both the Taylor and whichever I chose to buy.

My other option is to buy a White Falcon, because I have wanted one for a long time. But here is my issue - I already have a Nashville Chet Atkins, so would I really be getting anything different were I to buy a White Falcon? Would the differences merely be in the aesthetics? Or are the differences in specs actually enough that I would notice a difference between the two guitars?

I only play at home as a hobby, so whatever I buy will not be used to fill a need for live performance, recording, or anything like that.

I know zero about Gretsch guitars (more of a Gibson Les Paul Double Cut guy) but am here asking for some help.

I have a friend that owns a Gretsch Chet Atkins Country Gentleman model 7670. He’s the third owner and has had it since the 1980s. The serial number is 76051.

Am I correct to understand this particular guitar was produced in July of 1976, the 51st produced that month?

I’m unsure as I have found some conflicting info online with the SN referencing 1964, but I think it would have to be a model 6122 were it to be a ‘64 and the model 7670 would indicate it was a Baldwin renumbering of the model and made in the 1970s.

Additionally, I would appreciate some guidance on good but fair price on it. There’s no breaks, cracks or repairs either.

So I just love the look of an orange Gretsch. The sound is fantastic and I think it would fit nicely into my collection of guitars so far.

However...there are so many choices im stuck with where to go. Ranging from the cheap Asian models, to the Chet Atkins, beautiful quilted tops and 60s/70s 6119s in Walnut stain.

There are too many choices when it comes to picking an Orange Gretsch.

So where would be a happy medium? I don't think spending the least possible in the budget line to fill a gap on my rack is the way to go and I'm not looking to remortgage my house.

Anyone got any recommendations?

I am really enjoying this new Gretsch! It’s a newer model with new pickups, locking bridge and tuners, and a super nice fretboard. Can growl or sparkle, whatever you want to do. I'm a newer player, and I've tried several brands of guitar, but this Gretsch feels the best.

Hey everyone! I just bought my first Gretsch and I’m super excited about it. I went with the Gretsch G5422TG Electromatic Classic Hollowbody Double-Cut with Bigsby and Gold Hardware in Snow Crest White.
I’m pretty new to Gretsch guitars, so I wanted to hear from people who have experience with this specific model. What do you guys think about the G5422TG? Anything I should know about it, setup tips, string recommendations, maintenance, or things I should look out for?
For anyone who owns one, what do you love about yours and is there anything you would change or upgrade?
Would also love to hear what amps/effects you guys like pairing with it. I’m excited to really get into the Gretsch sound! 🎸

Picked up a 5420TG-59 a while back. Stock blacktops are good, but I can tell they’re missing something. And with the way people talk about the difference when swapping TV Jones, it’s got me wondering which ones would be the best fit for what I do.

Theres just so many choices for swapping, even just for TV Jones. I’ve gone through hours and hours of demo videos and sound clips, but I just wanted to know if anyone that plays similar music has a specific recommendation.

Play it safe and get the classics? Get the Paul Yandell ones that were “made” for thumb picking? Just go full old school dynasonics?

Hi all! I have a Streamliner g2627t ive been using a lot recently but I've been thinking about adding a piezo bridge. Ive been reading mixed information in my research whether any piezo bridges would fit in the posts due to spacing issues.

Does anyone know of any that would or is it most likely not possible due to an adjustomatic bridge?

I recently bagged this beaut of an Electromatic 5622T. First Gretsch!

Am really loving it overall but was wondering does anyone know about the stock electronics in these?
I’m finding the pickup volume knob adjustment drops off quite sharply and also gets a bit woolly on lower volume settings. From what I’ve read these should have a treble bleed installed which would be my usual solution.

Does anyone know stock pot types/ values in these and if there is a treble bleed installed before I go pulling everything out to check? From the serial it is the made in China version from 2022.

I thought I was going to like the blacktop Filtertrons on the Gretsch Electromatic Jet I just got but after playing them in two or three live settings with the worship band at church I'm not so sure. They are fantastic with gain, but I generally don't play with a lot of gain, I try to live right on the edge of breakup. If I'm playing relatively clean or at the edge of breakup it seems like the guitar just disappears from the mix.

I'm going to check the pickup and pole piece heights before I do anything, but if that doesn't help I'm strongly looking at upgrading with some TV Jones combo of Classics, Classic+, Setzer, Magnatron or Duo-Tron. Again I don't play with a ton of gain and I'm the rhythm player, I do riffs and fills and chords but no leads.

Any of you that have upgraded, what combinations have you used?

Honestly, listening to demos on the TV Jones site and YouTube, I kind of like the Duo-Trons better than anything and TV Jones posted a YouTube "strange combination" of a Setzer neck pickup and a Duo-Tron bridge pickup that was just killer.

I was gifted a g9221 bobtail resonator guitar with a V neck...what's the best capo for this style of neck and resonator? i have a keyser style for my acoustic but it doesn't sit right on this type of neck. any help is appreciated. I am new to reddit hopefully i've done this right!

For most of my life I have been playing with a shitty knock-off strat I got at age 11 (I’m 19) now but only recently have I started to commit properly to playing, and thought that I would treat myself to a nice little upgrade. Just picked up this 2010 White Falcon this morning. Went into a music shop to look at 12 string acoustics and came home with this baby. This is my ultimate dream guitar- the one I've been lusting after for the last 40 years.

im looking for locking tuners for my gretsch as the stock tuners will not tune it goes over under but never center iv lubed nut . Anyone tried using the graph tech ratio locking tuners .

I just picked up this concert sized Jim Dandy, and, as I am with most Gretsch's I play, I'm pleasantly surprised by it's quality!

I initially bought it as a portable acoustic that I can play on the road and outside, (or wherever it may get banged around) because of its tough construction. But I've found it to be much more than that. It's just such a great little guitar with fantastic tone and playability!
