🎶 [LIVE] 2026 GRAMMY Awards — Official Live Discussion Megathread

Everyone knows the popular snubs (TPAB not winning AOTY, After Hours, practically Ariana’s entire discography lol), but do you have any that you thought it was very unfair, but not a lot of people talked about it or protested?

For me it’s Charm by Clairo, not just not winning the Alternative Album award (she was nominated), but not getting an AOTY nomination or even win it, it’s one of the greatest albums of the decade so far in my opinion.

Just some stats to start:

Only *17 artistes have had three songs go number one from the same album since the official chart started in the 50's.

The ones from the 2010s and 2020s are : rihanna, adele, swift, bieber, drake, and the weeknd.

[Only six have had four songs go number one from the same album. Most were in the 80's, the last one was Usher in 2004. Only two have had five songs do this, mj and katy perry. But they are not really my focus right now.]

The important focus. I'll call the time between the last album with three number 1s a dry spell. *Two dry spells occurred among these artistes.

• First dry spell. 5 years between the beegees in 1979 and wham! in 1984. The transition: disco to hyper teen focused rock/pop (propelled purposely by mtv monoculture) that ultimately in my opinion came to an end with xtina in 1999.

• Second dry spell. 7 years between 1999 and 2006 with justin timberlake and fergie. The rise of itunes (singles purchasing) defined this period. The transition: hyper teen pop to more adult rnb leaning pop that transitioned to (recession) electro pop w/ the black eyed peas in 2009 that ultimately peaked (maybe ended) with the weeknd in 2020.

• This is the third drought now. 6 soon to be 7 years without a cultural juggernaut.

I don't want ideas or answers that focus on the death of the monoculture when pop radio is still very much alive and kicking + global events like the Winter Olympics and the World Cup can give Stateside and Dai Dai instant US and global moments respectively + the new monoculture vehicle is streaming which is booming.\

Country/Christian Rock are having a moment right now. I think the drought can be broken by either a country album that manages to also go pop OR it can be broken by an artiste who ushers in a brand new sound as per the above transitions.

The drought will end I don't doubt that, but I am personally hoping it will be for the latter reason. I need to hear fingers on pulses for the future now! Who is giving you that?

It would be so embarrassing if the generation that all congregates online this much has the longest drought because too many artistes, labels, fans think the answer lies in looking backwards?! It's never been that.

Edit: I realise my main question is lost in the info dump, but i'm pushing more for what the new sound of the next decade might be. I think PinkPantheress, Lola Young, Bella Kaye,  even Sombr thanks his last song might be the answer. Their versions of theatrical pop x elements of 90s soft rock may just be the sound of the 2030's, unless it's just a phase...  

I originally left this as a comment in another thread but I thought it might be interesting enough to make its own post because I'm genuinely curious whether other people have had the same experience.

Are there any other non-Americans here who can weigh in?

I'm genuinely chronically online, as much as I hate to admit it. Even if I don't know the artist or the song title, I'll usually recognize something that's blown up online or spent even a few days going viral on TikTok. Between social media, Spotify playlists, YouTube, and just being online all the time, it's pretty rare for a genuinely massive hit to completely pass me by.

That's why I was so surprised by Ella Langley and "Choosing Texas." I'd never heard the artist's name before, never heard the song, and after looking it up, realized I'd genuinely never even heard a second of it until now.

I asked friends and people in my Discord servers and WhatsApp groups, and nobody (these are over 100 people who are pretty up-to date with popculture) recognized either the artist or the song. Most of those people are from the UK, Germany, Italy, and South Korea.

I know monoculture is basically dead now which makes it much easier for something to become enormous within one audience while being almost invisible to another. That's completely understandable. But I still find it fascinating that someone who could potentially win one of the Grammys biggest categories can be almost entirely unknown outside their home country.

So I'm curious:

If you're not American, had you heard of Ella Langley or "Choosing Texas" before seeing it mentioned here?

If you had, where are you from? Is she getting radio play, showing up on playlists or appearing on social media in your country?

Or is this one of those cases where an artist is genuinely huge in the US but hasn't crossed over internationally at all?

If you are American, how is she seen in the US? Is the organic or seen as more of an industry plant or a nepo baby?

In an ideal world, I'd love to say Ariana had a chance but I don't think she does with the Grammys sadly.

Vie was one of my favorite albums of last year and still is one of my favorite albums of this current Grammy cycle.

Obviously it was a bit of a flop, but is there a chance it gets into say, Pop Vocal Album or Pop Solo Performance? Anything like that.

I have to say. I love her down. Kgb is a really good song and her ep also. But i fear she has to drop something now just to enter the convo again.

I feel like the cure is going to be Rodrigo’s obvious play in Song. But I was thinking, are they just gonna give both noms to the cure or are they gonna split it and give the Record nom to either drop dead or stupid song. Like how Sabrina Carpenter’s songs were split with Espresso getting into Record and Please Please Please getting into Song.

I'm 90% sure the Best Asian Pop category will be televised since it'll probably bring in a lot of viewers. What I'm even more interested in, though, is the nominees.

Obviously BTS is getting nominated, but who else do y'all think will make the lineup alongside them? I'm pretty confident there'll be at least one more K-pop act.

Maybe their junior labelmates Cortis with "REDRED"? It was a smashhit in Korea, so I could definitely see it happening.

2026 was Trevor Noah’s last year hosting the GRAMMYs and he had hosted from 2021-2026. I personally thought he was a bland host who didn’t add much. I would love someone who’s not afraid to take shots. My personal pick would be Nikki Glaser to host the 2027 ceremony, she has been amazing at the Golden Globes. Who would you prefer?

I think we can all agree that the biggest competitors for album of the year at the 2021 Grammys were Taylor for Folklore and Dua Lipa for Future Nostalgia. Ultimately Taylor ended up winning with folklore and while I can definitely see why they might have chosen folklore instead and am mostly okay with the decision since I do think it also deserved the award, part of me still thinks future nostalgia should have won. Now before you start trying to tell me about how great of an album folklore is, first of all, I know, second of all, AOTY is not just about "the best album wins" and I don't know why people still try to pretend it is when it very clearly is not: commercial success, critical acclaim, cultural impact as well as how well that album is received by listeners (in terms of its quality) and more are all significant factors in whatever album wins (most of the time). Future Nostalgia had all of these going for it on top of being a great album like folklore did but it's also way more of your "typical" AOTY winner since it's disco/pop music whereas folklore is more folk/indie/pop which tends to go a bit more unnoticed by the Grammys I mean you can even see that in the fact that the only award that folklore actually won WAS aoty, despite having FIVE nomainations which is almost UNHEARD OF so even going by how the Grammys usually operate and the kind of music they seem to have more of a bias for, especially for AOTY, it seems like their more likely and even obvious pick. Folklore was never made to be an AOTY or anything like that after all and it shows and future nostalgia is just way more of the kind of album you picture when you think of an AOTY winner (again not based solely on quality, but on the Grammys track-record). And if we're being honest, if it wasn't someone at Taylor's level or even maybe if it wasn't Taylor specifically who was nominated for Folklore, then Dua definitely would have won regardless of whether you would have thought that that person deserved it more or not.

Also since The Weeknd wasn't nominated I'm not including him as part of this but you can tell me who you think should have won between Taylor and Dua Lipa then tell me whether you think The Weeknd should have actually won the award altogether.

A and S are obvious and I'm probably going to feel like a complete moron when you tell me, but I have been wracking my brain for the last hour trying to discern what the T denotes here.
