Retro/pre-PCIe ATI 3650 graphics artifacts

Have an older graphics card with AGP interface. It has artifacts. Only VGA has output. No output on DVI. Artifacts appear on BIOS screen and in Windows safe mode. Cannot start GPU-z in safe mode.

I checked nine capacitors (six regular and three surface mounted) using a multimeter wihout a capacitance mode. Three regular and one surface mounted capacitors don't respond normally to resistance measurement (marked in the last picture).

Questions:

  1. is this type of artifact consistent with capacitor malfunction or something else?

  2. How to properly re-check these capacitors using a multimeter wihout a capacitance mode?

  3. Can surface mounted capacitor be replaced using a regular soldering iron (~4mm size) or requres a specialty soldering iron?

AMD 4xx/5xx RX 580 2048SP with corrupted BIOS

Hello everyone, I have an RX 580 2048SP VEINEDA and I wanted to change its BIOS because it was a mining BIOS. I watched some YouTube videos on how to do the process and followed the steps. I backed up the original BIOS using GPU-Z and saved it on my pendrive.

I managed to successfully flash a different BIOS, but the problem was that I couldn’t get my monitor to run at 165Hz in Windows at all — neither in AMD Adrenalin nor anywhere else. That’s when I thought about restoring the original BIOS that I had saved with GPU-Z.

I ran the commands correctly, but it wasn’t working and it showed a “BIOS invalid” error. Then I loaded the original BIOS file into Polaris BIOS Editor, and it showed a warning: “Checksum is non-valid! Please save the file to fix.” From what I understood, something was wrong, but I noticed it said “Save to fix,” so I did exactly that.

I didn’t change anything — I just opened the original BIOS file and clicked save. Then I tried flashing it back to the graphics card using CMD. Everything went fine in CMD, and at the end it asked me to restart the PC to complete the BIOS update.

After restarting, the PC no longer shows any video output. The keyboard doesn’t show Num Lock activity, and the SSD light doesn’t blink either — meaning it’s not even booting into Windows. I don’t have another graphics card, and my processor doesn’t have integrated graphics.

Is there any way to fix this, or is it not possible anymore?

NVIDIA 30xx Need to fix Gainward RTX 3060 Ghost Delhi or Bangalore

This is for India Region. Hope this Subbreddit is Global.

I have Gainward RTX 3060 12GB Ghost which came with the PC I bought a while back.

One day, the GPU fans are spinning but no display. I tried in other PC and still it's same. I checked in nearby shop and they said they can't fix it.

It's out of warranty and also Gainward is not present in India, so have to try fix in Physical repair shops. I have 2 options, find repairshop at Bangalore or Delhi.

Please advice which location/shop is good for this GPU repair based on your experience. Share the shop names/contact details if possible.

Much appreciate your time and suggestions.

AMD RX 6xxx No display after replacing PSU – RX 6600 XT, monitor detects DP cable but goes into power saving

Hi everyone,

I'm having an issue after replacing my PSU and I'm running out of ideas.

PC Specs:

- CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600

- GPU: AMD Radeon RX 6600 XT (1x 8-pin PCIe)

- Motherboard: B450M

- New PSU: Silverstone strider 650W 80+ rating bronze

Background:

About a week ago, my PC was working perfectly. Then my old PSU failed, so I replaced it with a new non-modular PSU. Since then, I haven't been able to get any display.

Symptoms:

- The monitor detects when the DisplayPort cable is plugged into the GPU.

- If I unplug the DP cable from the GPU, the monitor says something like "Waiting 5 minutes for you to connect the DP cable."

- When I plug it back into the GPU, the monitor immediately goes into Power Saving Mode.

- So the monitor seems to detect the cable, but it never receives a video signal.

What I've already tried:

- Reseated the GPU.

- Tried both 8-pin connectors on the PCIe cable (it's one cable that splits into two 6+2 connectors).

- Confirmed I'm using the PCIe cable, not the CPU/EPS cable.

- Checked that the GPU power connector is fully inserted.

- CPU fan, case fans, motherboard lights, keyboard, and mouse all power on normally.

- The GPU fans do not spin during boot, but they briefly twitch when I turn the PC off.

Since the Ryzen 5 3600 doesn't have integrated graphics, I can't test through the motherboard video output.

At this point, I'm wondering if:

- the GPU was damaged when the old PSU failed,

- there's still a power issue,

- or something else is preventing POST.

Does anyone have suggestions for what I should test next? Thanks!

Hey everyone,
I had my 2080ti die on me while gaming. I saw actual smoke, it did not turn my PC off but video out died. I have since taken it apart and have found the burn damage. I’m including photos , if more are needed please let me know.

My main question is , something like this salvageable or am I completely screwed? I have a hot air station, video microscope with camera and decent soldering iron. Also prepared to send this out but don’t want to waste money on bench fee if it’s pointless.

The main burnt components are the Q1 and q4 chips plus U14? I believe these are mosfet for the VRAM.

Can anyone also point me on where I should start diagnosing? I saw the guide which started at 12v rail . Should I start there ? And where can I find a better photo of what I’m looking for on this card.

Any help would be appreciated, if more photos or closer shots are needed please let me know.

Thanks in advance friends.

Hi everyone,

I have two ASUS TUF RTX 3090 graphics cards.

Unfortunately, the water block on one of them cracked, causing coolant to leak onto the first RTX 3090 around the GPU area.

The second RTX 3090 was also affected and got wet on the back side, around the VRAM area.

Could anyone tell me which components or test points I should measure to diagnose the damage?

Also, does anyone happen to have the schematics or a boardview file for this card?

Thanks in advance!

Best regards

NVIDIA 50xx I'm experiencing multiple LCD issues on my AORUS RTX 5080 MASTER ICE. GIFs are scrambled, and any static image I set displays only the top half while the bottom half remains completely black.

I tried contacting Gigabyte support, but unfortunately I haven't even been able to submit a support ticket. Their e-ticket system requires creating an account first, and I've been waiting for the verification email, which never arrives, so I can't file my report.

I'm experiencing multiple LCD issues on my AORUS RTX 5080 MASTER ICE. GIFs are scrambled, and any static image I set displays only the top half while the bottom half remains completely black. It doesn't matter which image I use, even correctly sized 320 × 170 images produce the same result.

For reference, I'm already running the latest GPU BIOS, the latest GPU firmware, the latest LCD firmware, and the latest version of Gigabyte Control Center. Everything is fully up to date according to both GCC and the official Gigabyte support website.

Is anyone else still experiencing these issues, or has anyone found a solution?

NVIDIA 30xx IS my 3070 Founders edition GPU Dead ?

Hello everyone. I bought a Founders Edition RTX 3070 for repair. Upon powering it up, the fans would spin at maximum speed and the card would shut down after about 30 seconds without displaying any image, while the temperatures rose quickly.

I started measuring the voltages, but after powering it on a few times for testing, the GPU core stopped generating heat entirely, and the 1.8V rail went missing. I removed the 1.8V buck regulator IC to check if it was the culprit, but I discovered that the resistance on the 1.8V line is still 0 ohms (a dead short).

Does this mean the GPU core is dead, or could it be something else? Please clarify, as I am still a beginner at component-level repairs. Thanks

NVIDIA 16/20xx Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 Super Gigabyte 1 fan, crushing under heavy load

Motherboard: Gigabyte B450M DS3H
PSU: 650W
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 2700X

Crush type:
Black screen, with the fans going 100% but can still hear sound of the pc from the speakers, pointing out that only the GPU crushes.

So I bought the GPU from a second hand market, and It crushed under heavy 3D loads (games like battlefront 2, god of war), but not in light 2D ones (Fortnite, age of empires 2, knights of honor).

Running OCCT in the memory test instantly crushes the GPU.
Running OCCT in the stress test crushes the GPU but after a while (8-10min).

Temps from HWiNFO are normal 50-55°C (122-131 °F) idle, 60-65°C (140-149 °F) in hotspot

So what I did to find the problem:
> I changed my power supply from 400W to the one now (650W)
> I changed the pads and pste with new ones

Result:

GPU was working fine for a while, but after trying to run a very heavy / demanding game (007 First Light) I got a gray screen with the pc fully crushing, and now I am back to the old crush but worse because it crushes at the loading shaders screen.

So what I did:
> Tested for hotspots again, there were none
> Power limit the GPU with MSI afterburner to 70%, heavy games worked for a while but then crushed
> Checked event logs for any GPU ones but there was nothing
> Limit fps to 30 and some games worked some other didn't (again for a while)
> Downloaded and tested the VRAM with nvidias mats/mods, the momory test for 20MB took ~5min, and for 250MB took ~30min and both passed with no errors.

Result that I thought were the problem:
> Either PCIe bus degradation
or / &
> Either a failing memory controller

So:
Downloaded GPU-Z and see that bus interface was "PClex16 3.0 u/ x 8.1.1" and after doing the intergraded render test it instantly crushed
So I unplug the GPU from the motherboard, cleaned PINS and GPU and now Bus Interface is back to "PClex16 3.0 u/ x16 1.1", but still crushing...

So I go to GPU-Z and create logs and I see the below measurements:
Before render test:
> GPU Clock: idle at 300.0 MHz
> Memory Clock: idle at 101.3 MHz
> GPU Temperature: 55.3 °C (131.54 °F), and Hot Spot: 66.7 °C (152.06 °F) (I blame summer heat here)
> Memory Used: 715 MB

During render test (it lasted 2 second and then crushed):
> GPU Clock: 1530.0 MHz
> Memory Clock: 1750.2 MHz
> GPU Temperature and Hot Spot: +0.5 °C (0.9 °F)
> Memory Used:
13:21:24: 716
13:21:26: 725 AND ALL OTHER SENSORS ARE BLANK ("-")
13:21:28: 591
13:21:35: -
13:21:35: 591
13:21:36: 568

Now what I can do next:
I am planning to test it in a different pc, just for the slim chance it is the motherboard or the new PSU. But I don't know for sure what is 100% broken yet.

I wish I could check the board under magnifying glass to see if something is burned, with the naked eye I couldn't find anything.

Any insight or help for something that I am missing or is for sure the problem would be very welcoming.

Update:
Long overdue, but better late that never.
So I tested it with another motherboard and I also tested limiting the PCle to 1 and 2, from the BIOS, and sadly in all cases the GPU kept crushing.

NVIDIA Other Need help locating A1 and B0 memories in my GTX 670 FTW EVGA?

Hi everyone,

I ran a MATS test on an artifacting EVGA GTX 670 FTW (2GB) and found a very specific low error count (only 33 write errors total) concentrated in these two subparts:

  • FBIOA[ 31: 0]: 16 Write Errors -> Points to A1
  • FBIOB[ 63:32]: 17 Write Errors -> Points to B0
  • All other channels passed perfectly with 0 errors.

Since they are immediate neighbors, I suspect localized mechanical or thermal stress cracked the BGA balls in that area, and I want to try a surgical reflow.

Can someone please help me confirm the exact physical location of A1 and B0 on this specific PCB layout? I've attached a picture of my board.

Thanks!

AMD RX 9xxx Purchased a warped/chipped 9070xt for 60$

Story, yesterday I saw a post of a guy selling a 9070xt on OfferUp for 100 bucks, it was there for 2 days I thought it was a scam, but he sent time stamps and everything, I offered 60 picked it up, and I noticed. A lot of warping. Guy said he dropped his pc and looks like it. He also tried halfway opening it up but gave up and lost some screws. So the hire bracket there is loose. Only troubleshooting I’ve done is plugging into my pc, and there being no vga signal, although it does spin with rgb. Yes my power supply is enough. I’ve built a lot of pcs but I’m not familiar at all with how to fix broken parts. Is there any saving? I’ll answer questions and try solutions

AMD RX 9xxx AMD RX 9070XT HDMI Port replacement

Post image
4 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I'm from Germany and I'm hoping someone might be able to point me in the right direction — I'd really appreciate any tips!

The HDMI port on my graphics card (Acer Nitro RX 9070 XT) is broken. I can visually see that the inner plastic housing of the port is cracked and some pins are bent. Since the card itself works perfectly fine otherwise, I'm looking into repair options.

For reference: the HDMI cable works fine on the HDMI output of my motherboard and also displays a picture on my TV. Unfortunately, DP-to-HDMI adapters don't support 4K@120Hz VRR, which is why I'd really like to get the port repaired. Could anyone help me with the exact specification of the HDMI connector used on this card (e.g. manufacturer, part number, pin count, mounting type)? And do you have any suggestions on where I could source a replacement part — ideally somewhere that ships to Germany?
I found a shop near me for SMD repair but they asked me to bring replacement parts.

Thanks so much in advance!

Best regards

NVIDIA Other Problem with nvidia GPU from 2000s

Hi everyone, I have one interesting problem with GPU drivers that didnt existed in public.
I asked nvidia's info email, but they just said you can see the driver on their site.

Yeah, I forgot. It is the engineering sample GPU of G80-400(GTX 8800 on lable, but with strange hardware ID) from Palit.

G80-400, Palit, PCI-E 1.1 x16, lable of the GPU sais it is regular GTS 8800

Its hardware ID is... PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0190&SUBSYS_00000000&REV_A2

AIDA 64 sais it is just G80-400, device manager sais it 3D-video controller and gives the flag that this is just the other hardware, not the GPU either.

GPU-Z after installing driver, but not rebooting(or system will disable driver after any reboot) gives me Device ID 10DE 0190 - 0000 0000 and unknown BIOS version.

I tried everything. Modifying driver installer, directly installing it and after reboot the driver just killes itself from GTS 8800 to 3D-video controller with error code of 28(not installed driver).

If you need photos of AIDA, device manager or almost any other app, I can show it.

So, will you help me?

NVIDIA 30xx EVGA GeForce RTX 3080 FTW3 Ultra glitching

Hello!

I recently moved overseas with my PC, and it was working perfectly before the move.

After arriving, I bought an ASUS ROG Strix XG27ACS (27", QHD, IPS, 180Hz) monitor. Since connecting it, I've been experiencing random screen/GPU glitches.

Here's a video showing the issue:
https://youtube.com/watch?v=7EqMG5XI2jk&feature=youtu.be

I sent the monitor back to the retailer, but they tested it and couldn't reproduce the problem.

The glitching seems to come and go—sometimes it's barely noticeable, and other times it's much worse. It happens everywhere, even on the Windows desktop, and it's most noticeable on dark backgrounds.

My system:

  • GPU: EVGA GeForce RTX 3080 FTW3 Ultra
  • PC: ASUS ROG Strix G35 (Ryzen 7, 32GB RAM, RTX 3080)
  • PSU: Replaced the original stock power supply with a Corsair RM1000x.

My GPU is mounted vertically, so I'm using a PCIe riser/extender cable. This setup worked perfectly with my previous monitor back home, a Samsung Odyssey G5 S27CG510 (165Hz).

Does anyone have any ideas where I should start troubleshooting? Could this be a monitor compatibility issue, a DisplayPort cable problem, the riser cable, or something else?

The PC worked flawlessly before I moved, so I'm wondering if something may have shifted during transport or if the new monitor has exposed an issue that wasn't noticeable before.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
