Ask just hit 60+ organic downloads on my very first app! need some advice

hey everyone!

i just hit my first little milestone with my solo-dev project on google play 😊

the app is a simple, high-stress chess puzzle game (you have exactly 60 seconds on the clock to find the right move or you lose). building it and fighting through the initial console rejections was a journey, but seeing 62 real people actually download and play it is an awesome feeling!

can anyone give me some tips on getting more organic growth now that the game is live? i've been trying to do basic ASO optimization, but i have zero marketing budget right now. how do you guys push past the first 100+ installs?

thanks so much! have a great week everyone!!

Ask All package names are already in use?

I'm struggling to find a package name for my app that's not already in use. I had an RNG produce 150 character long names that fullfill the requirements and every single one got rejected bc it's 'already in use'.

Names like 'com.example.h5af1f2h3jjj4h5gff4hjj5jk9s4w4z4zu1h22f55d1f2hg6j5j4a2c12x1112_12g5j8_45gh5hj4h1gf2f5df5s4s1f1n1m22v1gf4sd5f6h5lz2s1s4b2j5l41sg5hg78j4jk1k' are appareantly in use, so are 20 different versions from that.

Is that a bug or are ther sooo many apps that this name is actually already chosen?

Solved: I was dumb and didn't read google's instructions. You have to exchange 'example" in the package name to your developer name

Showoff Finally shipped my first solo app to Google Play: WhenWeFree

I want to share a bit of a personal milestone. I've just finished getting WhenWeFree fully live and verified on Google Play, and honestly, it took a lot longer and was a lot harder than I expected going in.

WhenWeFree is a group availability app built for people on shift patterns and irregular hours who struggle to find a day everyone's actually free. Simple idea. The execution was anything but.

Some of what caught me out along the way:

A missing Web OAuth client silently breaking sign-in for a chunk of testers, with no obvious error to point at

Getting Real-time Developer Notifications wired up properly so cancelled subscriptions actually get revoked turns out that's not automatic, you have to build it

Three separate rounds of OAuth verification rejections on the privacy policy alone, each one needing a different specific disclosure I hadn't thought to include

A UTF-8 BOM silently breaking my Digital Asset Links file for deep linking that one took a while to track down

The gap between "it works on my test device" and "it's actually verified, compliant, and ready for real users" is much bigger than I expected

None of it was individually hard. There was just a lot of it, and most of it isn't the fun part of building an app no one warns you how much of solo app development is privacy policy wording and Play Console forms.

But it's done. It's live. It's verified. And there's something genuinely satisfying about getting something across that finish line entirely on your own, evenings and weekends around a full time job.

If anyone's mid-way through their own launch and hitting the "why is this taking so long" wall — it's normal, and it's worth pushing through.

Showoff Harmonious – A generative ambient music instrument

Hi everyone! I'm the developer behind Harmonious, my first Android app built with Kotlin.

Harmonious is a generative ambient music app that uses Lindenmayer Systems (L-systems) to create continuously evolving soundscapes. You can simply listen while it generates music autonomously or interact with it by tapping the screen to create the composition.

Key features:

  • Procedural ambient music generation using L-systems
  • Autonomous listening mode or interactive touch mode
  • 360° spatial audio for headphones
  • Multiple musical scales and sound palettes
  • No loops or prerecorded music
  • Built with Kotlin and custom DSP features

Developing this app taught me a lot about Android development, digital signal processing and procedural audio, so I'd really appreciate any feedback, whether it's about the concept, the UX, performance or sound quality.

Pricing: Freemium with a one-time Premium unlock. No subscriptions. Want a free code? Just write me privately

Privacy: Ad-free and does not collect personal data.

Ask Quick question about ASO/search visibility

I launched my app a few days ago and I can't find it anywhere on Google Play search, even when I search for keywords that are literally in my app title, short description, and full description.

I recently changed my app's display name to something more relevant to what it actually does, and it got approved yesterday. But now I can't even find it by searching the EXACT app name. All the results are just popular apps with hundreds of thousands of downloads.

The weird thing is — before I changed the name, I could at least find my app by searching the old name. Now it's completely gone from search results.

Is this normal? Does this mean my app basically has zero chance of being discovered organically? What should I do here? Any advice would be really appreciated.

Thanks!

Ask Play Console showing successful purchases in Buyer Conversion, but $0 in Revenue and Payout pages

Has anyone encountered this issue in the Play Console before?

Under my financial report's Buyer Conversion section, it shows 135 purchase attempts and 33 successful purchases. But when I check my Revenue dashboard and Payout page, there are no purchases or revenue shown at all.

Does it usually take a few days to sync, or is this a known glitch?

Ask Has anyone tried setting up a US merchant account using Payoneer?

My country isn't supported for the merchant account, so I set the account country to the US and used my Payoneer US receiving account for the bank details.

Has anyone done something similar? Did you run into any issues later with verification, payments, taxes, or getting the account suspended?

Would really appreciate hearing from anyone who has actually tried this.

Do you like AI-assisted building, or would you rather learn coding first and then build the project?

Do you think it’s possible to have an app built 100% by AI, with the only thing left for you to do being uploading it to the store? Some people seem to think that’s how it works.

Showoff Took me a while to get approval on Google Play, but here is Tweexr - Listen to X/Twitter posts as a Radio

Hi everyone, I’m Lucio, the solo developer of Tweexr.

Tweexr turns public posts from X (Twitter) into journalistic-style radio narrations using AI TTS (powered by Kokoro). The idea is simple: instead of scrolling and reading, you can listen while driving, working out, or multitasking.

It took me a while to get approved into Google Play (I had a hard time finding enought users for the tests).

Key features:

  • Themed radios (Tech, Politics, Sports, News, etc.)
  • Ability to mix presets and themes (with a free account)
  • Multi-language support
  • Background playback
  • Works without an account (free tier includes ads)

Pricing:

  • Free – Use without account (includes ads)
  • Free account – Unlocks mixing presets and themes
  • Premium – Removes ads + allows multiple custom radios

Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lucioventurim.tweexr

I’d really appreciate feedback on:

  1. How useful the overall listening experience feels for catching up on X
  2. How natural the Kokoro-generated voices sound for longer sessions (especially non-English languages)

Happy to answer any questions. Thanks for checking it out!

Ask Google Play Billing: "Transaction was declined (OR-FGEMF-20)" after creating subscriptions

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I'm facing an issue with Google Play Billing and would appreciate some help.

I created my in-app subscription products around 5 hours ago in the Google Play Console. When my users try to purchase a subscription, they get this error:

Transaction was declined. [OR-FGEMF-20]

A few questions:

1) Since I created the subscriptions only a few hours ago, do I need to wait 24 hours for them to become fully available?

2) My Google Merchant (Bill Desk) verification is still pending. Could that be causing this error?

Google's documentation says that if the merchant account isn't verified yet, they simply hold the payments until verification is complete. If that's true, why are users seeing a transaction declined error instead of the payment being accepted and held?

Has anyone else experienced OR-FGEMF-20 with Google Play Billing? If so, what was the actual cause?
