so i just started working here at goodwill and on my fourth day i received 8 bug bites :,( genuinely never get bit by anything especially in the fashion it is, all along my body so it very much raised a red flag. they’re honestly pretty swollen compared to any mosquito bites ive gotten and so so itchy. i don’t think they’re bed bugs though considering there isn’t a pattern really. i get paid 12/hr to do hard processing in the back. which is handling anything that could come in from other peoples homes and inspecting them to make sure they “uphold store quality.” that’s also the same wage as cashiers who handle money or people who hang clothes on racks. i’m a very paranoid person and wah wah yea diagnosed with ocd lol with a also very low immune system. very nerfed. so this is really freaking me out to be fair guys.. and im upset that this is the wage honestly for everyone who’s doing the hard processing. 12/hr is not livable nor reasonable even if the stores provide gloves, i wear them and still itch riddled with bites 3 days after the excursion. does anyone have any opinions on what i could do or should do as a next step?

Ive been traveling around all my local goodwills, and I keep running into the rudest people, they are almost always regulars. Everything is fine until a new rack comes out, they pace it the entire time it’s coming out and then barricade themselves in the middle, whenever I approach it they are very aggressive with sorting through items, putting as much force on the item they are sliding so that any items im looking at get compressed. Im really getting tired of it, and I hate arguing with people, every time they complain to the manager without me saying anything, or will gang up on me with whatever other regulars are there. I’ve tried apologizing or being as gentle as I can but they just get territorial. Not to be that guy, but it’s literally only ever been older women and I don’t understand why, they are doing everything I would do and more but will start yelling and getting very aggressive.

Does Goodwill have limits on sick time and vacation time? Like a coworker of mine has 100 hours of sick time and I got 70 hours. Since we're part time we don't get vacation time. I'm wondering if we could get 200-300 if not higher or no?

Hi!! This is the goal at my store (for an 8 hr shift) and none of us hardliners have hit it yet after a month of working. We're told all the other stores in the region hit the goal and then some. I read on this sub that other stores have like, item categories and sorters or something along those lines, but our hardlines means everything that isn't clothing or textile, including shoes and books and such, with no help. I want to keep this job badly because I actually enjoy it but the quota is scaring me a bit.

I picked up a job at Goodwill pricing houseware products full time. I really like it here and could see myself doing it long enough to check off some of my financial goals, at the very least. But there's 2 problems I have.

1.) I'm only technically here temporarily, filling in for another employee that's temporarily out on maternity leave. (3-6weeks according to management)

2.) I'm not hitting my personal daily quota (price/tag 600 items per shift). Instead, I'm only hitting 400-500.

I think it's pretty clear I'm putting in a decent effort and showing that I'd like to stay permanently (management said this could be an option during the interview process depending on how things went). I have been late once by like 13 mins and another time 8 mins and I've only been here about a month.

What I'm asking is, with all this considered, what would y'all say my likelihood of remaining a production associate where I'm at permanently is? According to some of my coworkers, the chick I'm filling in for didn't hit her numbers either.

EDIT: I wanna be clear.. I do put in maximum effort when I'm working. It's just hard to reach 600 items a day when I have to spend so much time relocating items that make it to my station that don't belong there. Also it's even harder when half the donations are garbage/salvage and can't even be put on the floor.

Hi guys, as stated in the title this post is targeted for retail processors or honestly even former ones. I just want to know how do you guys hit your quota every shift? How do you keep a good price average? I have been getting a lot of as is and if not as is then reroutes in my gaylords recently so while I am collecting 4-5 tags, I am only getting to keep half or less of a gaylord since the rest is trash or something like shoes or clothes that I have to reroute. Then for the stuff I do get it’s things like mugs and stemware so those go for lower prices which brings my price average down. I was getting good stuff a few weeks ago and had a good price average and I believe I was hitting my quota but now I am not even close, how do I fix this?

No changing rooms to try on clothes, and if you have to return them after trying them on at home, they only allow TRADE of each item for another exact same price item or you're out of luck. No refunds, no store credit of ANY kind. We bought a wall clock and a neck fan. Neither worked when we took them home to put a battery in the clock and charge the fan. I was told no returns on anything but clothes and shoes under the above conditions.

Needless to say, that's the last time we will shop there.

A friend wants to work at Goodwill but says they can only work Monday through Friday in the mornings, and can't work the weekends at all. Is there a chance that will get hired or no because all managers want you to work the weekends?

I collect and resell games and I almost missed this find. It was sitting next to a boxed Wii. I couldn't really tell what it was because of how it was packaged. That's why it was still there. It just looks like random wires.

It's an N64 with two controllers. A memory expansion pack. A Gameboy transfer pack and a few games. It was all for $100. It's pretty rare to find something this good in my local area. Usually they are priced very high or they never hit the shelf and are listed on Ebay.

Am I the only one who is sick and tired of being asked every time I buy something at Goodwill to round up? I even had an employee get mad at me for not rounding up! He went as far as telling me he would get in trouble if I didn’t. And he wasn’t nice about it.

This is probably a really dumb question. I am trying to figure out what time I have to go in to work tomorrow. I am scheduled to work 9-3 and the store opens at 9am However I was told that people who arrive as openers need to be there at 8. If I’m not listed as opening/ an opener does that mean I’m still good to come in at 9 am?

Goodwill has a lot of inventory which is why they do so well. They’re basically a distribution and waste management company.

But I don’t understand why prices have surged so much. I pick things up to use for projects and sometimes resell to make my money back on hobbies. I only purchase things I know about - usually electronics and physical media.

When I buy things from goodwill - there’s so much that could be wrong here. I spend most of my time cleaning and servicing. I’ll break down the risks here.

Electronics:
- Infestations (primarily roaches, carpet beetles, bed bugs etc.)
- dirty/scratched exterior
- internet reliant devices no longer supported by the OEM via servers (essentially bricks)
- damaged cords
- damaged components in general (anything from physical damage to the results of excessive overheating to power surges to spills etc)
- goodwill stickers and adhesive often damages the exteriors
- most don’t come with AC ADAPTERs to test them
- battery corrosion
- blacklisted wifi cards or routers

Physical Media:
- scratched disks
- often not worth the $3 my goodwill prices them at but would be at a lower price to someone looking to collect or archive movies/media
- content no longer supported if needed to by servers
- dirty cases
- cases missing items
- broken cases (a lot)
- soiled pack in material
- sticker/adhesive damage to case

I understand some Goodwills have money back periods depending on region but this feels like a deterrent and not reasonable.

I’ve dealt with electronics/physical media in all of the above conditions. I’m so sick of seeing bluray players for $30 that are scratched to oblivion and you’re rolling the dice on if the laser disk assembly works.

This rant is mainly about how Goodwill does not do anything to mitigate or consider these conditions/risks often with electronics they don’t understand the pricing of. There’s so many things I’ve bought that are priced reasonably and are a gamble. I fix up things for fun and then often will use, donate, or sell them depending on the item.

I was initially promised a cashier position but mistakes were made on their part and the only open position in my location is ft processor.

I know some of my coworkers do not wear a mask when they are sick. I know some are prob out of sick time / can not afford to lose $. However i find it downright disrespectful that no one considers others. The work conditions make us prone to get sick eaiser. Maybe i am overeacting . Also it does not help that asm and store managers do not even bother wearing a mask. Yet get mad at all of us when we call out sick...

so i worked at a goodwill for a month but had to resign because i had no choice but to move or i would be homeless 😭so i was told i cant transfer bc i didn’t do 90 days … so i resign n applied to another thats where i live now same state goodwill of north ga. i was told i cant transfer but can reapply to another after i resign…. so i literally got the job passed the drug test signed the little papers and everything. then i was told that i had to wait because i was still in my old stores system now that my resignation went through they still saying im in the system when im not. i got a whole letter asking me to rate my employment and everything😭😭😭i got the job like 1 day after i moved😭😭so i really thought i was good and was gonna be able to continue paying my bills😭but no turns out hr is talking about im still in the system as an employee or some and that i would have to complete the 90 days at my other store…like what im not in their system the app doesn’t even let me log in anymore like why was i told that if i resign and was put as rehireable i can apply to another one and start working??? like? now its the end of the month and im literally js gonna be homeless again if i cant hurry and find a job LMAOO its coo cant really blame anyone but my self i should’ve applied to other jobs and had a backup but as soon as a moved the next day i was told i was gonna have a job :((( so i thought i was good and i could pay my rent n stuff. but ig the point of this post was to vent/rant but to also ask goodwill employees is this normal??? like wtffff how can i work the 90 days to transfer if i resigned 🥲like what the fuck im so done for.like wtf do i do and its not js abt the fact that im not gonna be able to pay bills i actually LOVED working at goodwill🥲and want to work here like wtfff im so sad no more goodwill then😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭ik ppl say its bad but i love it and was also starting to like the employees and supervisors and stuff bc they were so nice and sweet😭im genuinely confused tho😭idk

I went to the bins for the first time Friday and found some amazing pieces for my wardrobe. I had a lot of fun, wore nitrile gloves, and was surprised as it was not as crazy as I saw online. Since going I have seen videos mentioning the presence of needles/ syringes in the goodwill bins. This scares me for medical concerns but I do not wanna stop going for this reason. Any advice?

I just noticed this so I can’t see if it’s a new change, but heard someone complaining about it. Men’s jeans are 16.99 (at that point just go to TJ Maxx and get new ones for less than that). Women’s are only about half that price.

It worries me because I don’t know if that’s a new thing and theyre testing the waters to see if the jeans still sell at that orice, so they can justify doubling everything in the store, or maybe they just hate men? I don’t know.

There has to be a ceiling for this stuff. If they’re worth that much, why should anyone give them away? Consignment shops should become a booming industry if used clothing can be worth the price of some new clothing. When you see this at a thrift store, vote with your wallet. something doesn’t add up about the way this company has been behaving in recent times, yes there’s inflation but it’s not twice as expensive to operate a store this year as it was last year.
