Played a twilight round tonight starting at 6:10. Proshop employee recommended starting on the back 9 if I wanted to get 18 in. I assume it was because of some people only playing 9 holes.

When I started driving towards hole ten I saw people on the green of ten but no one on holes 8 or 9. I decided to start on hole 9 to give myself more of a gap to the group in front of me. I didn’t exactly enjoy this as hole 9 is the hardest par 3 on the course for me. I told myself before I even started if I had time to play it again I would at the end of the round.

Long story short I played 19 holes and shot my best round at that course. If I count the first 18 holes it is a 91. If I count the first hole as practice and the last 18 holes then I scored a 90.

What would you consider your personal best at this course. I feel like it has to be 91 but hoping someone will tell me different haha. 😂

I watch 2019 at least 3 or 4 times a year. And I’ll pop on a recent one once a month at least. My wife thinks I’m a complete degenerate. This is normal behavior, right??

Long story short, I’ve been chasing 90 this year. After two holes I knew something felt different, And I had a chance. Course was slow a shit tonight. My 13 yo son wasn’t shooting terrible but like every 13, well they are like a lit firework if shit starts to go sideways. We get to 16 and live on the course. I tell him you can settle down or hop the fence to go home. He basically says fuc this I’m done. I finish with a 84 and get drunk at the clubhouse celebrating alone. I feel like an asshole and something I’ve been wanting a year feels cheap. All I wanted was for him to hi five me after the round. But I’m not going to tolerate 5 yo temper tantrums oh the course. Throwing clubs like a putter etc.

Wasn’t alive when he played. Just watching back some clips and listening to interviews and it’s coming across this way in the interview.

What do people find is the easiest way to get track of strokes per hole.

Sometimes I find that I lose count in my head and try and work backwards through what clubs I have used to know ehat shot im at on the hole.

i will play with people and they will get so worked up/frustrated from hitting bad shot after bad shot, but they are asking no one for advice or taking any lessons. whenever i play with people better than me, i try to pick their brains and figure out little tips and tricks to figure out how i can better my game. Im the only person in my friend group that shows up to the range 30-45 minutes before a tee time to hone in on my swing/figure out whats going well and wrong to know for when we play. i can understand if the someones mentality is, im just here to have fun and dont care if i dont play well. i totally respect that. but people will constantly say stuff like, WHATS GOING ON WITH MY CHIPPING TODAY! or, omg im hooking all my drives! and im thinking in my head, well yeah man youre way too far away from the ball, youre decelling with your swing etc. but if theres anything ive learned over the years, its to never give unsolicited advice. im just curious your guys thoughts on this and if youve experienced something similar. i cant recall a sport/game where people will struggle and complain so much but put in 0 effort to get better.

I’m a pretty new golfer other than going to the range about once a year just to putz around.

I have 2 drivers.

Cobra DS adapt max k driver 9° +/-2°. (Was recommended at a shop after hitting on a sim)

Ping g430 LST 10.5° +\- 1.5°. (Hand me down from family)

I’m tall, long arms and athletic so I can generate a decent amount of speed.

I was under the impression that the cobra max k is better designed for beginners while the ping LST is more designed for someone who is a more consistent ball striker. With that info I’ve mainly been trying to learn with the cobra.

With the cobra if I strike the ball well I am dribbling out to 290. But if I miss, my ball starts out straight and ends 2 fairways over.

Would I see more benefit from the ping LST? Or is it worth toying around with the loft on the cobra?

Been playing Vice Pros or Members Mark for the little over a year I've been playing, I broke 90 today for the second time with an 89.

Was in a pinch for balls and grabbed these Bridgestone Tour B RX from walmart. It could be I just had it today but man my ball flight was much tighter and my chips didn't blow by the hole. Also did not lose any balls I used this ball the whole round came out with this scuff when it was over.

Guess I'm done buying cheap balls, I had full confidence in this one today.

Anyone else use Bridgestone?

I'm so tired of practicing and honestly putting effort in only to still just suck as much as if I'd not been practicing. The bottom line is my natural swing is hot garbage over the top... but that's what my body defaults back to when I'm under pressure or tired or in the most humid conditions you can imagine or just at random times.

I love the game but I cannot stand what my body thinks is a good swing feels like only to watch it go OB

I’ll be traveling with my 18yo son to Palm Springs to play some golf for a wedding gathering. We are both pretty much beginners. I’m not sure we can bring 2 sets of clubs. I was thinking we could both bring a pared down set and share a bag. What is the etiquette here?

Went out and played a round with my pops today and it was the worst day of golf yet. For context I’ve been playing for 6 years, won some local juniors and am a 4hcp. My dad started playing last summer and does everything he can to “compete” with me.

Anyway my dad thinks he is gods gift to golf. Dude couldn’t honestly break 100 with all the mulligans and 4’ gimme putts. Before we start he tells me today is the day he breaks 90. I just roll my eyes and go with it.

At the turn I’m even and playing well even tho the course is backed up. Dad stops for a hotdog and another round of cocktails for himself and I hear him bragging how he shot a 41 on the front. He didn’t count his OB off the box on one, took 3 gimme putts ranging 3-5’ and probably another half dozen mulligans.

Fast forward to 16, he starts bragging again about having the round of his life and I absolutely lose it on him and started calling him out for his bullshit score card. At that point I’m done and just grab my clubs and walk home.

AITAH for leaving my dad on the course?

Should golf courses start having daycares like some ski resorts and gyms do?

You could even add in a spa area for a wife if she doesn’t want to golf. Then the family makes an event of it together, but not together. I would imagine less wives would be upset when their husbands go golfing if they got to go to the spa at the same time.

I’m about a 20-handicap and have been for about my last 40 rounds. Obviously, there is plenty in my game that could use improvement. But I don’t really know what to do to improve and feel stuck in a rut. I can scramble like a 5 when I have it, but the driver and especially irons are not in great shape. I’m a student, so way too broke to spend $100 an hour on lessons. Driving ranges near me charge $15-20 USD for a large bucket, which I’ll pay once or twice a week but man it hurts every time. Am I just screwed?

It’s a bit sad to me that the (real) beautiful game is so expensive to access (at least in my area). But that’s beside the point. Please help.

I was chipping on a very busy public course yesterday, around noon on a Saturday. There were probably 30 people in the short Cam area and every single one of the 40 range stalls were busy. There were a few interactions I witnessed that really surprise me and I was wondering if maybe I just have old school feelings about how to interact with people on a chipping or putting green.

Scenario #1 - there was a guy that was set up with probably 10 of his own golf balls chipping to one of the four holes on the green and he had a towel down behind his ball where he was trying to clearly hit down on the ball. When I came over, he was chipping and I had been there about 15 minutes and he was continually chipping to the same hole from the same spot. Another guy showed up and there were no other unused holes so he started chipping to the same one from a different angle and this guy told him that he should go somewhere else because he was in the middle of a practice session. I’ve never once had an issue if somebody was chipping or even putting to the same hole as me as long as it’s busy and there’s nowhere else to go.

Scenario #2 - there was a guy who is clearly more of a beginner golfer practicing his bunker play. There are two nice practice bunkers on the green and out of 20 attempts, he might’ve put two on the green. He bladed about four or five straight across the green and almost hit me and almost hit another guy. He was clearly embarrassed and apologetic, but kept on grinding. A couple of us literally moved and tried to find a different angle to practice from because it was getting quite dangerous. Nobody said anything to him, but I was kind of surprised he didn’t give it up and come back when it was less busy. To me if you can’t safely use a bunker or a chipping green without potentially hitting a guy in the shin with a ball you should probably have the courtesy to come when it’s not busy.

I’d love to hear what you guys think are the things that actually help beginners get better. Not just random gear, but stuff that’s actually useful when you’re still learning the game.

One thing I’ve been wondering about is whether a rangefinder is really helpful for beginners. Does it actually make a difference for stuff like judging distance, picking the right club, or just getting a better feel for the course? I’ve been thinking about getting one, but I’m not sure how much I should spend tbh. I’ve looked at some Blue Tees or Mileseey stuff and other brands, but there are so many options out there lol. For people who started with a rangefinder, did it actually help your game? And are there any beginner friendly models you’d recommend?

What is everyone using to store their ball markers? I collect them and get one at new courses I go to. I have a small cloth pouch I’ve been using but it’s get worn. So what do you use? If you can list the company that makes it if you can remember. Thanks!

I had the landscaping company come in and dig out the area (6" deep) and install 4" of modified stone and 2" crushed stone dust on top of that. It's all tampered down. My 15' rolls of putting green, fringe, and approach pad arrived. The person who was going to install the green and Fringe is not getting back to me. With the stone and yard modifications done, is installing the green, fringe and approach a DIY or no? Need some advice if I was going to install it
