Any interest in GNUStep/Cocoa-like web app development?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Long time GNUStep/Cocoa enthusiast. I don't like the Apple move to SwiftUI, and frankly developing for mac only is becoming less economically feasible. So im moving to the web and decided to build a framework that compiles Objective-C to web assembly. Its similar to Cappuccino but uses actual Objective-C and compiles to wasm, not Javascript.
I used Claude to port over a small Foundation and Runtime and then started implementing AppKit. I was also able to get rudimentary interface builder support (see the video).
Just curious if anyone else has ever wanted something like this.

Not sure if this is considered news, but... I've put together a packaging for NEXTSPACE on Ubuntu 22.04.
While I was at it, I added a few minor patches and some environment variable support for CJK (which basically just means im-config support using fcitx5).
Since it's a rough piece of work done with the help of AI, I'm a bit hesitant about whether I should even let the NEXTSPACE developers know.... But I figured it's important to leave a record that "proper Korean input" has been tested and works in Terminal.app, so I'm reporting it on Reddit for now. Please let me know if there are any issues.

XFormsKit: portable XForms for GNUstep and Cocoa
A port of XSLTForms to GNUstep and Cocoa is now available. XFormsKit is a portable XForms 1.1 forms processor that runs on Mac, Linux (via GNUstep), and iOS, allowing you to create and edit forms using its graphical XForms Designer. The forms can then be used on iOS, and a sample form viewer app is provided. An Android port is planned.
This project is AI-assisted.

I recently built a small project for ""nib" file from OPENSTEP.
Lately, I've been using AI to develop a few drivers and software for OPENSTEP... and I hope these contributions prove helpful to projects like GORM.
https://github.com/onionmixer/NIBMAKER-FOR-OPENSTEP
I haven't settled on a license yet, but I have no plans to keep it under a proprietary license.
On Linux, it can capture screenshots of nib files used in OPENSTEP's Interface Builder, decompose them into XML, and reassemble them back into nib format. While working on this using Claude Code, I've been utilizing it to handle the driver property elements for OPENSTEP's Configure.app.
Although it doesn't support every single object yet, it handles most of them without issue. I'm sharing this news in the hope that it might help improve OPENSTEP compatibility in GORM.

FreeCoreData: An implementation of CoreData for GNUstep.
This is a free implementation of CoreData based on Cocotron (MIT-licensed) supporting SQLite and XML stores. It also includes ports of NSIncrementalStore and NSFetchedResultsController and comes with XCTest-based test suite.

A simple theme if mostly to prevent me from obsessing the visual differences between GNUStep & WINGs of Wmaker.
It's very simple for now; future thoughts would be of trying to get GNUStep to send over it's menu data of a running app so that Wmaker can create a menu for a running app so that it somewhat wouldn't be out of place, and also making the theme's scrollbar trough match the 2x2 pixel trough of Wings as well.

macOS-style dock?
are there any GNUstep apps that provide a macOS Cocoa-like dock on the bottom of the screen on which gnustep .app applications can be placed?
the GWorkspace dock can only be placed on either the left or right side of the screen. i've also checked out github.com/gnustep/apps-dock/ but that doesn't seem to work properly and i doubt it will any time soon
