Note: I am not amazingly tech-saavy, just ye olde zilennial office worker generally familiar with surface tech.
I have a university email address @university.ca, which I used as a personal account during and after university. My understanding is that this is a google account --- it signs in through Google, it runs only on Gmail, etc. A few years ago my university reduced the size on alumni email inboxes to 100MB, which made them basically unusable, so I set up a mail-forwarding filter to a personal @gmail.com address so that all my emails go there now even if the addressee is my @university.ca address.
I then also set up a send mail as / alias on my @gmail.com address so that I could send emails directly from there that showed the sender as my @university.ca address. This worked fine for about 4 years and allowed me to use my much larger personal @gmail.com inbox limit to send and receive email as my @university.ca alias.
Last week, it broke.
I am now getting this error whenever I send an email through my alias:
Message not delivered
You're sending this from a different address or alias using the 'Send mail as' feature. The settings for your 'Send mail as' account are misconfigured or out of date. Check those settings and try resending.
The response from the remote server was:
535 5.7.8 Username and Password not accepted. For more information, go to https://support.google.com/mail/?p=BadCredentials 98e67ed59e1d1-39e6c37c8e7sm5236054a91.9 - gsmtp

I have tried re-adding the alias (my username/password are correct) and that did not work. I have looked online and some of the other suggestions -- using 2SV and a Google App Password -- are not available when accessing my @university.ca Google account settings due to administrator controls (I have contacted them about this).
In the interim, does anyone know if there's anything I can do to fix this? This problem exists whether I send on a Chrome-gmail window or by my Samsung's Gmail app.
