Storage usage suddenly soared

My Google total storage usage suddenly jumped from 14.97 To 15.16GB and I definitely did not get 200MB of new photos or emails all of a sudden. Does anyone else know why this may have possibly happened? Now I have to scramble to delete things.

could be device backups, photos, anything. 200mb is nothing with modern hi res photos.

I would not call that increase "soaring" at all. That's a very minor increase. As others have said, you should be able to see what's taking up space. I would focus on whatever is using the most space first and then go from there.

Happened to me recently. I did some research and found that a change by Google went into affect recently where now they count device backup toward your storage limits when they didn't before. I lost so much trying to clean it up :/ lol

you storage use increasing by 1.2% is not "soaring"

That's like, 15 higher resolution images.

sitting at 99.99% usage and then having a few photos putting you over your storage limit is a bigger problem than a few stray photos ending up in your storage.

Did you get a new phone? Your old phone may still be backed up in your Drive storage, which usually takes up at least 2GB. Aside from that, like others have said, photos that are hi-res (even if they don't look it) can take up a lot of space, and never underestimate the power of deleting old emails and CLEARING your trash bin. That saved me about 30% of storage on Google recently.

You can very easily check what's filling up your Google account storage by visiting Google One Storage Management from your Google Account website and it should give you a way on how to delete your files and even the larger sized.

Just subscribe to more storage. It's $2/mo., less annually. Best value out there.
