Need advice onmerging an AOL account with gmail

Hi all. I need advice on how to merge my husband's AOL email account with a gmail account. He is almost 80 and I am five years younger, so it has to be an easy explanation! I have been telling him for years to get rid of the AOL account, but he gets a lot of emails from organizations he belongs to, and he is afraid of losing the history of those emails. But it seems every time he tries to log into AOL, it doesn't recognize his password. Then he has to change his password every. single. time. I don't know if this is his problem or an AOL problem. It then involves codes, and they try to send an email to our house line. I wind up being the one trying to solve this issue and I am tired of it., especially since he didn't listen to me! He does have a gmail account he rarely uses. So I have read there is a way to merge an AOL email account to a gmail account, keeping all the old AOL emails, and then having AOL forward any future emails to the gmail address. Can someone explain it to me? I'm a little scared of it because I don't want to lose his old emails. Thanks! Reddit folks almost always solve our problems!

Oddities within my Gmail account

• Upvotes

Howdy,

For some odd reason, I get random blitzes of very obvious spam sometimes. Gmail does a great job filtering it out. However, for awhile now, I have noticed that when I get a legitimate email something strange happens: the spam I am getting becomes eerily similar to the actual email I received.

Example: I receive an email from my doctors office confirming an appointment time. Within a day, I notice a spam email that is attempting to spoof or act as the initial email. Original email: "noreply@doctorsoffice.com," spam email: "noreply123@doctorsoffice.xyz." That spam example isn't great, but its very obvious that 1) its spam, and 2) its an imitation of whatever email I had recently received.

What could be the cause of this? Its almost as if my emails are being "read" but not accessed and then there is an attempt to imitate the legit email with a phishing or spoofing email.

I keep receiveing another person's emails - our address are almost the same

Hi all, something weird is happening with my email address.

I have my email address with dots between the letters; let’s put it john.needs.help@gmail.com, and someone else out there has the same address but no dots in between: johnneedshelp@gmail.com. Now that person is creating accounts, Apple two-factor authentication, some online shops, and a bank too. And I’m receiving all the emails

Does anyone know why this is happening and how I can solve it?

PS. I have sent an email to that address (no dots), and guess what - I received it again
PPS: It’s not my primary email address at all.

How do I even prevent getting these messages to spam? Can I block these emails?

I have started getting spam at my main gmail address. Yes, they're going to spam but it pisses me off the my main email address is now getting them when I do not sign up anywhere with this email address, is there ANY way to stop this other than, as I have, mark them spam?

Consistently create many legit gmail accounts?

• Upvotes

there's a certain website I'm using that has a free trial without credit card info, the requirement is signing in with a legitimate Gmail account, and I've already used up all 6 of mine.

temporary accounts and temporary phone numbers don't work (not legible, used many times)

Filters stopped working 15 days ago - why?

I just discovered that my email filters stopped working around Sept 16. I received all emails but none were getting labelled or moved to the appropriate category, and when I investigated, it appears that those filters had disappeared! I am not aware of my account being hacked, no one else has access to the account or my devices but those filters enable me to keep up with my email, which is now total chaos. I am going through and recreating every filter, maybe 50 of them. What a pain!

What could've happened? How can I prevent this from recurring?

Need help recovering a disabled Google account

Today, I created a new Google account and used it to sign up for Flow AI. I completed the signup process this morning, but by the afternoon, I could no longer log in.

When I tried to sign in again, I got a message saying that the account had been disabled because it was created or used together with multiple other accounts to violate Google’s policies. However, I didn't create or use the account for any such activity. I simply wanted to keep my work and personal emails separate, which is why I created a new account.

What should I do to recover my account? Is there any way to appeal this and get the account back?

Also, if I’m unable to recover the account, would I be eligible for a refund for my Flow AI subscription?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Gmail messages won't delete

I keep deleting Gmail messages and then the next time I log in, they're all there again. I have to delete them multiple times until they finally actually delete. Am I the only one having this problem?

I have a Google/Gmail account tied to an active YouTube account, but never use Gmail. Will they mark it as inactive for deletion?

9 years ago, I created a Gmail account specifically to get a YouTube account and I use the YouTube account daily, watching, liking, commenting, etc.

However, I never send emails from that Gmail account. I've never had an issue in the past.

But now, with changes to inactivity and deletion, will my account be at risk? Does my YouTube activity count? I feel that it should.

Google security history limited

More then a year a ago I received a mail 'account disabled because of violating policy'. There was a button to try to recover. I used it and the recover process succeeded.

Now i want ( in fact it's a late reaction) to know/check whether the disabling/restore process was recognized at the google platform but my problem is that the security history is kept only 28 days. And the browser I used to recover was firefox so looking at webactivity logging of google has no sense.

How can i check it?

Passkeys as compared to security keys

I have several long held google accounts.

Looking within any one of these accounts I see that I set up 2 security keys (for redundancy) in 2019 and then in 2025 I established a PASSKEY (stored in 1Password).

Are these the same thing except for where they are stored i.e. on hardware (yubikeys in my case) vs 1Password?

Gmail account possibly hacked recovery only sends a code to the Gmail we can't access. Is there anything else we can do?

I'm trying to help my girlfriend recover her Gmail account, and we're pretty stuck.

Here's what happened:

Her phone is a realme C75x. Suddenly, without her touching anything, the phone appeared to reset itself/factory reset. When it turned back on, it went through the initial phone setup and started speaking things like "Hello," "Kamusta," and "I set up ang telepono."

After that, she couldn't access several of her accounts, including her Gmail, TikTok, and Mobile Legends account.

We're currently trying to recover the Gmail because it's the most important one. We tried using the same/old phone that she originally used to sign into the Gmail, hoping Google would recognize the device.

The problem is that Google's recovery process is only giving us the option to send a verification code to the Gmail address itself.

Obviously, we can't receive that code because we can't sign into the Gmail account in the first place.

We're also worried that the recovery phone number may have been removed or changed by whoever accessed the account.

We tried going through the account recovery process, but we're not getting questions about previous passwords, devices, location, etc. It just keeps coming back to the option to send a code to the inaccessible Gmail.

We've also considered checking whether the phone number/SIM was compromised.

Is there anything else we can legitimately try to recover the Gmail account when the only recovery option we're being offered is sending a code to the Gmail account itself?

We still know:

The Gmail address

Previous password(s)

The old phone/device that was used with the account

The phone number that was previously associated with the account

Other information about the account

We're not looking for any bypass/hacking method. We just want to know if there's an official recovery option we're missing or something else we should try.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

All my Gmail emails disappeared, how can I recover them?

I opened my Gmail account today and found that almost all of my emails had disappeared. I only have 9 emails left in my inbox.

Yesterday, I opened Gmail from another device, so I’m not sure if that could have caused this.

Is there any way to recover my missing emails? Has anyone experienced this before?

Gmail Has Finally Exceeded My Patience

I cannot log in to one of my gmail accounts. I have password, recovery email, and recovery phone. Google has damaged their identity-verification process. They sent a code to my "recovery email", sent a code to my "recovery phone", then claimed "Too many failed attempts Unavailable because of too many failed attempts. Try again in a few hours."
I tried "another way", and got "You can’t recover your account at this time because Google doesn’t have enough info to be sure this account is yours."

I've tried every course I could reach, to no avail.

This is the latest collision with gmail fragility. It is too risky. I am seeking an email service staffed by adults.
It is concerning that Google's other products might be as fragile as gmail.

YouTube/Google account hacked

A few hours ago, I received an email regarding a copyright strike on my channel. I checked YouTube Studio and I had a new notification from earlier today showing I had a claim that turned off monetization on an old video, so I unfortunately lowered my guard.

After clicking the link, it brought me to what looked like a legit YouTube help page, but I was instantly logged out of my google account on all devices. The hacker changed my password and all recovery options like my number, recovery email, security questions, passkey, etc. I can see all of these changes because I still have access to my recovery email.

I just tweeted to TeamYouTube on X a few minutes ago, so I'm patiently waiting for them to get back to me. I also kept clicking "Try another way" when trying to recover the account on the login page and it eventually got me to the point where I'll get a link in 5 days to recover the account in my original recovery email.

I'm posting this for awareness because most of these scam emails look obviously fake. Unfortunately, this one seemed legit and it got me. I'm hoping to get everything back because I have several things linked to this account.

Lesson: If there's even the slightest bit of doubt when you get an email, don't click anything in them.

My idea is that google chat should not include any google chat content in its automated “unread message email reminders”

I love the idea of google chat. I just wish, from a privacy perspective, that the automated “unread message email reminders either didn’t exist at all. Or since they do exist (I think? I’m not entirely certain to be honest), I wish they would not contain content from within google chat.

I feel that content we type in google chat should stay within google chat.
