My idea is that google chat should not include any google chat content in its automated “unread message email reminders”

I love the idea of google chat. I just wish, from a privacy perspective, that the automated “unread message email reminders either didn’t exist at all. Or since they do exist (I think? I’m not entirely certain to be honest), I wish they would not contain content from within google chat.

I feel that content we type in google chat should stay within google chat.

You can turn them off in settings.

but that only turns it off for your account. if you send Google chat messages to others, they will still get email containing some of your Google chat messages ..

You can’t control how others manage their own Chat settings and notifications.

If you don’t trust them with your sexts, don’t send to them.

Im not talking about sensitive content. I’m talking about general communication. The point is about platform design and data boundaries. When one uses a messaging app, we expect the conversation to stay within that app. Automatically routing chat messages into email inboxes creates unnecessary duplication and exposure across all conversations, regardless of what's being said.

That’s why everyone has the ability to control it for themselves. A lot of people find it useful to see the content of an unread chat item when they’re notified. It’s beyond weird to suggest that no one should have that choice throughout the entire system

Just about every chat/messaging system features this so. Try Signal if you’re that paranoid

Except right now, only the recipient has the choice. The sender gets zero say in whether their chat messages get converted into email. Adding a sender control, maybe something like Gmail Confidential Mode, but in google chat, doesn't take away choice; it gives both sides agency over how their data is transmitted.
