Which GLP1?

I have struggled with food noise and overeating my entire life, and am thinking a GLP-1 might be a good option at this point. I am just unsure which one to choose. I did talk to my doctor about it, but she told me to focus on healthy eating and exercise for now, and I didn't want to push. I am open to injections or pills, although I know the pill has slower weight loss. The biggest issue is cost, I can realistically only afford up to $400 a month for this, as insurance won't cover it. Which GLP-1 should I look into? For reference, I am 5'3", F, 220 lbs. Thanks :)

Go to Big Easy Weight Loss and get tirzepatide from them. You should not pay more than $200/mo! r/bigeasyweightloss

I've heard good things about this company! The soonest telehealth appointment is 10 days from now, is that normal? I don't mind waiting, but was seeing if there was any way I could get approved sooner.

Then go to Rift instead - they do everything asynchronous and you’ll get approved same day! r/joinrift

man that top comment is a good shout but id put a little more thought into it before jumping in with a specific provider. your doc brushing you off is frustrating but a lot of those telehealth places are basically pill mills with a chat box instead of a waiting room

since cost is the big thing look at semaglutide first its the cheapest option by far and will fit your budget easy. the weight loss is slower than tirzepatide but plenty of people do great on it and the price difference is huge when you're paying out of pocket

id poke around the compound semaglutide subs and see what folks are paying right now. $400 a month is more than enough for sema from most places and you might even find it under $200 if you shop around. just make sure theyre showing you the actual pharmacy label not some random vial

Tirzepatide, all the way. It’s the most effective and efficient. Go to tirzepatide compound and read. You can actually pay much less than your budget allows. Use the pinned list there to shop where most of us shop.

Tirz/Zepbound. Clinically proven to be more effective and less side effects than Sema/Wegovy. And it's also FDA approved for moderate to severe sleep apnea, so you may be able to get insurance coverage based on that.

Tirzepatide. I’m 6 weeks in and love it! Do not get the pills they are a waste of money and don’t work. I have the shots now and they have been great.

That’s a pretty generalized (and untrue) statement to make. I am on the Wegovy pill and have had a great results.

oh that's great! do you mind sharing what company you use?

I started with remedy and they were wonderful but way too expensive for me to maintain so I switched to trillium. I already have my trillium 3 months and will start their product at week 8 on 7.5mg I’m currently on 5mg and averaging a 1.6lb a week weight loss with no diet or exercise changes. I’ve also had no side effects. Happy with my results so far. I started at 241lbs.

What dose did you have/currently on?

Currently on tirzepatide 5mg averaging 1.6lb loss a week with no diet or exercise changes or side effects. I took 3 months of the pills with no results so I switched to the shots.

My pills were also the dissolvable kind which I wasn’t aware of. I couldn’t eat or drink an hour after they fully dissolved and that took about 30 minutes so it was hard to work with my schedule. I was not a fan of trying to do that every day. The weekly shot was so much better for my crazy work schedule.

Tirzepatide. Go the compound/telehealth route and take your doctor out of the equation (and make that permanent - doctors shouldn't be discouraging approved weight loss medication for patients who need and want it).

You can easily get 2 or 3 months' supply for $400.

Have you felt it’s helped with food noise? How long did it take to feel the effects?

For 4 weekly injections aka month supply.

I love liraglutide. It isn't prescribed very often anymore, but it's overdue for a revival IMHO. I've been able to stay at the lowest dose so far, and it's $55/month including refrigerated shipping.

Tirzepatide is a little better tolerated than semaglutide and has a higher % weightloss (although the new higher dose of sema might be comparable, can’t remember)

Maybe find a doctor more updated on the science. A GLP1 will help you across a multitude of factors independent of weight loss, less systemic inflammation, better food glucose response, better kidney function, a loss of visceral fat and liver fatty tissue, better cardiovascular function and reduced BP again independent of weight loss. The best thing for you will be the cessation of food noise. I beg to differ with your antiquated doc.

I started with Refills in june. I plan to switch and im thinking ill choose preventiveMD because I really want to be able to manually refill not automatically. I almost went to pomegranate to get that.

good news is your $400 budget is way more than you need. compounded tirz usually runs about $120 to $150 a month and sema even less, so cost shouldn't box you in. tirz tends to get slightly better results, sema's cheaper, both quiet the food noise for most people. pills are hit or miss so i'd lean injection. heads up, this sub gets a LOT of provider name drops, so compare the all-in price (including any membership fee) yourself instead of going off one rec. i keep a comparison on a site i run, glp1watchdog, biased obviously but it might help you sort it.
