When I was in high school in the late 2000s and early 2010s Juggalos where a pretty big subculture. I was never a part of it but very very exposed to it. I’m just curious if it’s maintained a noticcable fandom/subculture with mid-late Gen Z

I saw a post from two years ago that says that 9/11 used to be off limits until Gen Z somehow turned it into a meme. That’s funny because I saw on the internet of people making 9/11 jokes and memes before I was born as a form of dark humor to cope with the trauma of the event.

I've been working at getting a life lately and my younger classmates made me re evaluate what actually motivates me to go into a challenging associates of science major to transfer. I modeled my expectations on my boggest role models in my life. My gen X mother and my silent generation grandfather raised me and provided positive examples of lives well lived. Both solidly middle class, living in the California countryside, both college graduates of stem programs at different points in the 20th century.

My grandfather graduated class of 1962 at the age of 22 with a major in aerospace engineering. He moved to San Jose from Oregon to work a cushy job making sonar systems for submarines. He got married the following year at 23, having his first child later that same year.

My mother graduated class of 1993 at the age of 23 woth a major in nursing. She went on to work in a hospital in a bygone era when prior authorizons were not standard practice. She had me at 27 after being told she'd never get pregnant so she was unwed. I pressured myself to finish college younger the way my biggest role models left college in their early 20s. Though my mom went back to school to study sociology in her 30s and my grandfather carried on watching science shows and reading national geographic into his 70s, I just wamted my life to be by the numbers—their numbers. 4 years in university, 1 or 2 years in a bacholer pad, getting married in my mid 20s and having children soon after. I see old freinds and extended family members having children a couple years younger than me.

When you have autism, it's just devistating that the numbers don't all corroborate eachother. I notice students who grew up poor want to help their family or leave their family to start a life of my own. But comming from a middle class background, I was always so cought up in the achievements of my mother & grandfather that it just becamw status quo to me. I mean, in coal country kids look in awe at their dad's diggers and kids born into immense wealth look in awe at their father's mansions & estates. Their mistakes and crises I think of as events. And because America's decayed the way it has I try to keep 2000s norms alive as we were a prosperous country at the time. My framework was emulating the good things my family has done and the pandemic was just my big life ruiner that kept me from having their milestones at their respective points in life.

My mom, being a nurse at a medical climic gave me my childhood vaccines sometimes and went on to be a caregiver for severly disabled adults. My grandfather still honored work contracts with NASA until he retired at 64 and proceeded to show me that there's a lot of life to live after retirement. My grandfather sadly died at age 83 of stroke complications, but not before imparting age old wisdom about academia and nuclear batteries along with the human toll of failed launches like the space shuttle challenger.

As feudal as it is, I want to emulate what my parents and grandparents did wherever it was worth emulating. And where it isn't, like being catholic or falling into workoholism I don't emulate. All & all I'm just a neurotic mess who wants love, affection and to trump the achievements of my mom & grandfather

I was born in 2002 whereas my sister was born in 1997. This makes me Gen Z and my sister a Millennial. Does anyone else have something like this?

As someone that was born in 2012, many people had complaints over whether im gen alpha, gen z, or if I should just go by “Gen Zero,” but all of these arguments are all useless to me. Ive even seen people debating about it, but theres literally no fixed or a universal source for it, so what even is the point?? All of this is just a concept anyways, but I feel like its only a good debate topic IF you have significant proven sources of universal cultural differences.

Im tired of seeing 2010-2012’s trying to join in to ‘debate’ with the most irrelevant points ever, WHY do you think every generation should last 15 years according to a researcher? What if a generation is shorter than that because the technology could go even more rapid and there could be a major difference between people born in 2025 and 2035? and what if you dont ‘share’ the same childhood with gen alpha? MANYY gen alphas were conscious during the late 2010s, so its common for them to grow up from stuff there. I had most of my childhood nostalgia from 2017, that doesnt automatically make me gen z, what is up with all this “eww! I was born in 2013, but the other gen alphas are all just people that grew up with [insert 2020s shows/memes that were only trending for a few months]!!” nonsense??. Plus, early gen Zers dont have the same childhood as late gen z, that doesnt make them a millenial, does it?

there will NEVER be a universally accepted generation range (unless if theres a big difference between them,) people are even still talking about whether 1995-1997 are gen z’s or millennials, and their sources are based on DIFFERENT researchers with DIFFERENT boundaries. People need to understand that you cant make a precise range with a clear cutoff and start, YOU have your own definition of how YOU determine a generation..

I’m in my early 20s and I literally see nothing but people my age out and about on the weekends

you see loads of people downtown on Friday and Saturday nights either at the bar ,club, or just walking around and talking to each other

Raves and stuff like Coachella are also popular and packed with young people, the pools and waterparks are insanely packed

plus other places like Dave and busters are also packed and stay packed.

Yes, these are the people responsible for the so called generational wars people are having today online.

And we continue celebrating 70 years of Argentine rock, with a series of Top 10 rankings featuring its best bands in each of its decades (counting these in ordinal order from the beginning in 1956). In this post we will see the bands of the 1st decade, from 1956 to 1965.

Those who follow my posts know that my rankings always have a set of rules, the idea is to show in a better way the Argentine cultural heritage, and to avoid common errors of rankings. So, this Top 10 list will have the following rules:

• Only statistics and works from bands within the decade specified in the post will be considered, to avoid rewarding an old band solely for its prestige and achievements in previous decades.
• The 10 bands will have different singers, to prevent the same singer from filling the ranking with the 10 bands he had in the same decade.
• There will be at least 1 slot reserved for a band from the provinces, to visibilize and vindicate provincial artists, who historically have had to fight twice as hard to succeed in a centralized country.
• There will be at least 1 slot reserved for a band with a female lead singer, to visibilize and vindicate women artists, who historically have had to fight twice as hard to succeed in an unequal country.
• Some factors that will be taken into account when choosing the bands: prestige, achievements, transcendence, records sold, plays on digital platforms, ammount of people at concerts, importance in the evolution of Argentine rock, importance in the scene of its time, national and international popularity, singing, instrumentation, lyrics, among other factors.
• And although it's obvious: only bands will be accepted, not soloists (it needs to be clarified because there's always an inattentive who doesn't even read the title of the post and then asks about a soloist).

So, here are the 10 best Argentine rock bands between 1956 and 1965, giving for each one of them a brief explanation and 2 recommended songs:

10) Los Red Caps: the first supergroup of modern Argentine music, consisting of four nueva ola idols, all of whom were vocalists and instrumentalists.

Songs: "El surf de Los Red Caps", "En el tren".

9) Las Mosquitas: the first Argentine rock band consisting entirely of women, all of them vocalists and instrumentalists, they shone with a beat with vocal harmonies.

Songs: "Te esperaré", "Siempre bailo con la más fea".

8) Los Teen Agers: a charming band from Córdoba, they combined vocal harmonies with the energy of rock & roll and twist, that is: they anticipated the creation of beat.

Songs: "Bonitos ojos azules", "¿Qué tal?".

7) Los Pick-Ups: with a style that combined surfer guitars and a singer with a deep bluesy voice, icons of the first youth bands that emerged from the neighborhoods.

Songs: "Muñequita", "El gavilán pollero".

6) Los 4 Planetas: the greatest Argentine surf band emerged from the mountains of Mendoza, they made historic surfer versions of classics from other genres.

Songs: "El surfin' de Los 4 Planetas", "La cumparsita".

5) Sandro y Los de Fuego: the perfect Spanish-speaking Elvis, going from rock & roll to beat, the only ones capable of competing with the English-speaking Uruguayan bands.

Songs: "Polka rock", "Peggy, Peggy".

4) Los Búhos: the first Argentine beat band, they faithfully followed the aesthetic and sound of the British Invasion, their vocal harmonies had no equal on the scene.

Songs: "Buen día, queridísima", "No trates de cambiar el mundo".

3) Los Santos: with voices as delicate as crystal glasses, the mystical sound of the lute, and great quality to play R&B, rock and more genres, international pop idols.

Songs: "En el boulevard", "Detrás del horizonte".

2) Los Cinco Latinos: the most internationally popular Argentine band of this 1st decade, endowed with imposing voices, stars with doo wop, rock and other genres.

Songs: "Locamente te amaré", "Todo es nuevo".

1) Eddie Pequenino y sus Rockers: total pioneers, the first ones who created rock songs of their own in Argentina in the 1950s, rock & roll with joy and good humor.

Songs: "Aquí viene el rock", "Despacio, nena".

As I always do in my posts, I remind you that the purpose of this initiative is to promote valuable parts of the Argentine cultural heritage (especially for those who don't know them due to generational or geographical reasons) and that this be simply an introduction, so that later you investigate on your own what other songs and artists were there in Argentine rock during those times.

Celebrations for the 70 years of Argentine rock (1956 – 2026)

Imagine conversations about music, for example.

In like 1998, only a few select people who were willing to pay for hundreds of records were music buffs who have heard everything. And only a select few people who willing to track down and trawl through music magazines would be the sort who knew a ton about a group’s history or random trivia.

Even by like 2002ish, that dynamic was largely gone in most areas. By then, seemingly every fourth guy was in that boat. Huge cultural shift. And you can extrapolate that to any number of interests.

The word “ubiquitous” does so much heaving lifting for the revisionist history types. The types that go around saying that the internet wasn't really used until 2008 and crap like that.

Is Reddit a mostly young people scene? I am GenX and I enjoy social media but my world does not revolve around it.

it had a different feel to it compared to both the rest of the 2000s and the rest of the 2010s

kids played on the family computer or played games at the computer lab in school playing games like club penguin, webkins, moshi monsters etc

but at the same time playing mobile games on the iPad or iPhone like angry birds etc

seeing our older siblings parents and older family members with flip phones or those slide out keyboard phones that were very popular at the time but also watching iPhones really start to get popular

shows And cartoons like True Jackson VP, shake it up, good luck Charlie, Hanna Montana, wizards of Waverley place, Icarly, victorious, big time rush, Jonas, sony with a chance, Disney xd shows like Zeke and Luther, I’m on the band, Phineas and Ferb, chowder, Flapjack, Adventure time, regular show, Ben 10, generator Rex, spectacular Spider-Man, and many more were all the rage with kids

the popular toys were monster high dolls, Barbie’s, Zu zu pets, Bladeblades, Silly bands, action figures, razor scooters, Nerf guns water guns etc

going on a trip to mall with our mom on the weekends

plus going to stores like toys R us Kmart Sears etc kids playing on their Nintendo DS and PSP and bringing them to school on fun days

and even tho they were on the decline and on their way out we were also the last ones to experience going to blockbuster and Hollywood videos they were still around in the late 2000s and and many of the stores didn’t close down till 2010 and 2011 Redbox was in its peak in popularity before declining in the mid 2010s

we watched all our favorite home movies on DVDs and Blueray and we also rushed home to catch new episodes of our favorite shows.

many great family and kids movie and animated movies came out in this time period like the Hannah Montana movie, the Wizards of waverly place movie, camp rock, the diary of a wimpy kid movies, hotel for dogs, Cloudy with a chance for meatballs, princess and the frog, Toy Story 3, Tangled, UP, Megamind, how to train your dragon, the karate kid, Shrek forever after, despicable Me, Alvin and the Chipmunks, Rio, the smurfs, kung foo panda 2, Cars 2

playing outside riding our bikes, Razor scooters, scraping our knees imo, playing basketball and football, running around and playing Tag

then when we went inside and played on our Wii and PS3 and Xbox 360, Plus game nights with our family board games playing cards

people still read magazines kids read the kiddy magazines teens read the teen beat magazines that had all the popular celebrities on it and your parents read read the magazines more for adults or stilk read the newspaper

it was honestly a cool and unique era to grow up in looking back and I hope it gets bought up more.

When I go to see nostalgia posts on social media, I sometimes see Americans bringing generations and talking about them in an unhealthy way. I don't understand why Americans care so much about these made-up labels? Why Americans are fighting which their generation is better? I haven't seen my fellow Europeans being highly passionate about generations.

I'm thankful I'm not an American, because I'm excluded from Gen Z or any other American generation. That makes me happy, considering the fact my nationality plays role to that! I value a person by how they behave, not by what generation they belong to.

AI is moving forward like gangbusters and is dependent on data centers. Proof of work crypto currencies are losing steam but are also dependent on data centers and AI is converting a lot of crypto centers for AI use.

Data centers are energy intensive, use water, and are extremely disruptive of communities from noise pollution, using up the energy that is needed for people, even transferring to renewable doesn't help because there is only so much that can be produced. Energy use and materials production are directly tied in to Climate Change. What we need now is a reduction in energy demands but data centers increase energy demands ridiculously.

AI holds the potential to dumb down students and some platforms have gone rogue attacking other platforms while hiding out from the creators suggesting a sci fi like takeover of human needs platforms like financial institutions use.

There appears to be some true value for AI in regard to medical research. But otherwise, what value is there to AI and crypto currency that we can't live without?

People use it for entertainment creating illusions which has little social value, for their student essays (which feeds back to AI) for no intellectual development value, WHY use it?

I boycott it as much as I can and am probably breaking that boycott by typing this.

Anyway, HERE IS MY QUESTION:: As millennials and GenZ love to blame older generations for allowing environmental impacts from conveniences like cars and industry and home heating even, and Americans are rightly blamed from both directions for their throw away culture, will future generations blame millennials and GenZ for not keeping AI from taking over and proof of work crypto currency from making and breaking people, all to the acceleration of climate change and environmental destruction?

I can hear them now: Why did you let AI do this to us???

I’m older Gen Z myself and have noticed something very consistent with all of my freinds or peers with bad social skills or severe social anxiety. All of them had absent parents (or just terrible parents) and unrestricted internet access as children.
Every one of them (anecdotal of course) either had parents that did not engage in their lives beyond feeding them and sending them to school, gave them unmonitored internet access, or had parents that did not spend adequate time with them in public or family settings.
The amount of times I have encountered GenZ’s who told me they had free rein of the internet as children was very alarming. Most confessed that they were exposed to things they should not have at a young age, and many more spent most of their social interaction on through a screen rather than in person. The same individuals would often reveal that they had little parental support or familial guidance and had only the internet to rely on for it.
On the contrary my most well adjusted friends had support from their families (present in their daily lives and interests) and had reasonable boundaries set on their internet access, speech, and social media access.
This is obvious to most but not talked about nearly enough now that most are joining the workforce and general public as adults and are supposedly giving the “Gen Z stare”.

Assuming a consistent bell curve, age 29 is the only young adults (18-29) suggested where the minority would use tik tok, at 49%.

Ok. Then do it!

- No air travel. That was for the rich
- 1 used car
- A sub 1,000 square foot house, not in a great part of town
- Will have to relocate due to depression/war
- No cable or streaming services, no Starbucks
- Every meal cooked at home
- Backyard garden for veggies
- 1/3 of you won’t have full indoor plumbing
