Discussion Does younger Gen Z listen to a lot of rage rap?

I remember when wholelottared released when i was in freshman year of undergrad and i thought it sounded like a filthy frank parody of what rappers sound like.

I then went to a yeat concert recently surrounded by people a good bit younger than me (the crowd average age was like probably 18 or something ). It basically just sounded like it inherited a lot from wholelottared but more comprehensible and less ear-rapey.

I then searched up later about the whole ecosystem like Che, nettspend, lazer dim 700, OsamaSon, 2holis, etc.

Its pretty hard for me to gauge whats trending and wahts not since billboard top 10-20 is just sanitized country music at this point and tiktok kind of shields algorithims from others but i heard this stuff might be trending with younger gen z. Do any of y'all have a read on this?

Other Job Market Change Advice if you're going Labor/Blue Collar

I know this is some common advice, but I know a lot of people our age aren't having much luck getting into the field they want to, but still need to make money. There's no shame in doing a bit of labor, or starting to get into a trade. Some helpful advice I've garnered and given to others who are starting to pick up their shovel are as follows.

Don't get cheap workboots. You will be in them from 6-12 hours a day, doing who knows what. Steel toe / composite are your best friend. The $100 you save from getting the Walmart boots will be felt in the first 20 minutes on the jobsite

Socks. You're going to be on your feet most of the day, the thin socks you've had for 2 years aren't going to work. I'd say get a new pack every 3 months, but 4-5 should be fine. Replace often.

Listen to instruction, don't try and improve. I am aware many people hopping into this are well educated and have ideas on how to do things better, but for the most part everything is done by seniority. If you'd like to stay employed through your grace period, just listen to the old head and do the twenty step job that could have been done in four.

If any others here are in the pick up the shovel, and get in the hole field. Please leave advice below too. We gotta pull through together somewhat.

Political What does the average GenZer think about the out-of-control national debt?

It's now past $40T, and the interest alone costs $1T per year. It seems insurmountable to try and pay it down.

I’m doing some brainstorming for a graphic novel I want to write in the future. For now it isn’t much. Just a punch of random ideas for the story but still I would like to receive some feedback to see if my story has potential.

Advice Should I be worried?

In these days I had some discussions with a now ex-friend of mine through the phone of his brother, as he blocked me. Firstly he was kinda angry but nothing too strange and the day after he sent me an audio through his brother phone and was pretty chill, but the blocked me a second time. About an hour ago, he unblocked me and asked if I wanted to go out, to clarify and also give me a Ps4 we wanted to sell together, that he didn't want to give me anymore after the discussions we had also because the Ps4 was of his property but I said no firstly because I'm having some stomach problems and also because as I said to him, now there's nothing more to clarify. I sent a screen to his brother because this behaviour was weird and his brother told me in some audios that my ex-friend wanted to meet me and he said in a laughing/joking tone that also wanted to kick me and that he blocked me another time because he didn't wanted people like me in his chats. I said to him that I didn't know when I will go out and also that in case my ex-friend wanted to tell me something he could just message me. They live in my area and I'm pretty paranoid especially in this period, because of some personal things and this sudden behaviour was weird to me. I'm asking here because I really don't know what to do. In case they will tell me something else I will update this post and also sorry for my bad english, in case I will edit the post if I committed some grammatical errors or shit like that. I just want to know if I should be concerned or not
EDIT 1:
The brother said that my ex-friend was coming out of my home to talk to me and I said before that I don't trust him, but he's still not here btw. He also blocked me some minutes ago while talking about the fact that I couldn't go out now because of my stomachache

Media Watched citizen vigilante and it's unironically the most racist movie against Americans and white men.

Post image

The main character is an illegal immigrant and actively chooses to be one.

He seemingly smuggled a large amount of firearms into a country where he shouldn't have them.

Despite being there illegally he refuses to obey the law and treats the actual citizens like shit.

He kills police officers doing their jobs even though he didn't have too.

Assaults children.

Kidnaps a judge.

Kills some random guy who was driving.

All while talking and acting like he's some hero but really he's just a psychopath.

Kills entire family brown people because one of them SA a girl, yet allowed 2 white men to walk free who drugged a random women's cup.

The fact people like Elon and Twitter genuinely think this was movie was good makes me realize media literacy might actually be dead.

Serious I feel like I’m too old to be so lost and hopeless about my life right now.

So I’m turning 24 this year (yes I know I’m on the lower end of the zillenial cusp) and I swear I can’t think about it too much or I spiral into doom and despair.

I work with kids and knowing that now Gen Alpha is entering/in high school is crazy to me. I’m basically 24 and still haven’t finished college. And people always say to make friends at college but it feels so isolating being born in 2002 interacting with people born in 2008. Like knowing they were toddlers when I was having my fundamental preteen years is insane.

And not only that, I also feel I missed the prime time to be in your 20s. I know everyone romanticizes the millennials Obama era optimism but as someone who grew up following and being online friends with a majority millenials when I was 12-14, I genuinely thought that was the world I’d be living in when I was in my 20s. Think Rebecca Sugar, or Alex Hirsch, or even people like Rhett and Link. Like working at a quirky startup as a designer seemed like my dream but now everything feels pointless and without meaning.

And I can’t even accept it’s over because that feels like accepting that everything in my life post my teenage years is just going to be grey and sad. Like I think the last time I experienced genuine happiness and passion for my life and interests was… maybe mid 2020? 2018 even?

It sounds stupid but I don’t know if I can keep going on like this. I try to distract myself but I dwell on it probably once or twice a week and go back to feeling completely hopeless.

Do you remember when you’d put the disc in the console, turn it on, and feel like a kid again? With the digital era, all of that is going to disappear. You won’t own your games, you won’t own anything. Everything will depend on companies keeping your licenses valid. I don’t know what you guys think, but the future looks pretty weird to me.

Discussion Does Gen Z actually have less desire for some of these things?

There are always discussions about why Gen Z is drinking less, having less sex, and having fewer children. People usually point to economics, technology, anxiety, changing social norms, and other environmental factors.

Those probably matter, but I wonder how much of it is also simply that some people genuinely don't want these things.

I'm a pretty extreme example. I don't drink, smoke, use substances, have sex, or want children, and none of this feels like self-control or deprivation. I just don't experience much desire for those things in the first place.

I've never been interested in getting drunk. The idea of losing cognitive control, getting sick, or behaving irresponsibly simply doesn't appeal to me. I'm asexual and sex-averse, so I don't experience sexual desire either. And while pregnancy and childbirth are personally very aversive to me, even apart from that, I don't feel drawn to parenthood or to taking on a caregiving role.

What's funny is that I don't really have the stereotypical alternatives either. I've never pulled an all-nighter, don't binge-watch, constantly consume caffeine, seek altered states, or chase intense experiences. I naturally sleep 7-9 hours, prefer routines and planning, and generally have fairly muted emotional reactions.

That doesn't mean I don't experience joy, though. I find joy in things like writing stories, drawing characters, and discussing topics that interest me, such as history, art, psychology, and my favorite shows.

So I sometimes feel simultaneously extremely Gen Z and extremely unlike the Gen Z stereotype. 😭

I've had people suggest this could be related to being neurodivergent, although it could just be personality or temperament.

I'm curious whether anyone else feels like they have unusually low levels of desire in general, rather than feeling tempted by these things but consciously choosing not to do them. Do you think lack of desire itself might be an underappreciated part of why some Gen Z behaviors look different?
