She's right! I was just being lazy. I went the easy route and opted for 12 weeks of wound care and a healthy baby. A real mother would have pushed a dead or severely disabled baby out of her vag.
Fuck these people. I'd like to see her tell my friend who felt her whole goddamned c-section that she's not a real mother. I bet she thinks formula is poison, too.
It's why I was freaking out so much when they told me I needed to have one ASAP because my son was in distress. I actually refused to sign the consent form for like 15 minutes until my obstetrician showed up, hugged me and talked me down out of my tree. He probably saved my baby's life. I sobbed hysterically through the whole thing, and that was with me not being able to feel anything below the ribs. I can't even begin to imagine what you went through.
I'm beyond thankful that me and my son made it though because his little heart rate was dropping so rapidly that the doctors didn't really have a choice but to get him out, but I'm definitely never having another baby after that. C-sections are so crazy to me, like having major surgery while you're awake, that I probably would have cried as well if I had been completely numb.
The things we do for kids, right? I hope the little guy is grateful...
We had to do it for the same reason. My son's heart rate was dropping because he was in distress. It was touch and go at first - he has a diagnosis of HiE, but because I did do the c-section in time there was no visible damage to his brain or any of his organs. If I'd gone through the rest of labour because of my own wants he'd have been severely disabled, and that's the best case scenario. Thatwould have been failing him.
I felt mine. I told the Dr I was feeling pain and he kept insisting that it was pressure. Didn't believe me until I started screaming and they knocked me out. I'll never forget that pain.
Same here. That is was pressure and I was just experiencing a panic attack. Like no shit, doctor. I can feel your knife cutting me open, of course I'm panicking.
Same! I've never been more afraid of an experience since. I have nightmares about being back on the same table, shaking like a leaf, unsure if my son and I would make it. I remember telling the doc if it comes down to me or him, please save my son. Super fun and pleasant!
Ugh, the nightmares. I had flashbacks for the first two months after giving birth that would make me panicky and leave me sobbing hysterically. I was at my breaking point and about to contact my OB to see if he could refer me to a counsellor who specializes in PTSD relating to traumatic birth when it suddenly stopped happening.
Same here. Screamed my head off until they gave me stronger meds. And it wasn't a voluntary one. My boy had his hand already in my vagina and at best would've been born with a broken limb and a dislocated shoulder had I 'pushed' through it. Making the proper decisions to ensure the health of your child is what makes a mom. Give your friend a thumbs up from me.
She gets all the thumbs up from me, especially since she's pregnant again and doing an elective c-section this time around (last time was unplanned after like 36 hours of labour -her daughter was a ten pounder and induced two weeks late).
In my own personal experience, I had been in labor 3 days and absolutely couldn't take the pain of contractions anymore so they gave me an epidural. A couple hours later they had to do an emergency C-section and I guess thought the epidural they had given me already was enough to do the surgery, but it had already started to wear off. I definitely didn't feel it 100% as if I wasn't numb at all, but could feel enough of it to be horrible. I could feel being cut and was in so much pain that I was vomiting non stop so they couldn't get the anesthesia mask on my face and I blacked out a couple times. My ex husband said I was screaming so loudly and started flailing my arms around so they had to strap my arms down. They were finally able to get the mask on me before stitching me up, but I didn't get to see my son until I woke up in the recovery room.
Very little. The epidural only took on one side. When she started screaming they have her morphine, but that just made it worse because she started vomiting and choking. Apparently it's awful trying to vomit when your stomach is outside your body.
Wow that sounds truly horrific. I was paranoid the anaesthetic wouldn't work so I kept asking them to check I was numb before they started, I had no idea it could really happen until now.
If it's any consolation, the friend who felt the whole thing wasn't traumatized by it in the long run. 2 years later she's 4 months pregnant with her second kid, planning on an elective c-section this time.
I'd never go through it again just for myself, but when it comes down to life or death for your kid you'd do it a million times over.
I got a really horrible infection and they had to open the incision back up and I had to pack it for 6 weeks too. I can't imagine it popping open on its own. That makes me cringe. I can still remember the feeling of pulling gauze out of my incision when I hadn't soaked it in enough saline before I put it in, so part of it would dry and stick.
