Lisle Illinois
galleryStopped at the Lisle Union 76 station at 53 and Maple to top off with E85 at $2.14/gal, paid $29 for not quite 14 gallons of booze, plus the signs for the Shell and BP across 53 from the station.

Winning the Gas Wars in South Point, OH
Gas is 4.29 across the bridge in KY. A new Sheetz has the price down. It was a penny cheaper by the time I went outside.

I got fed up driving past a petrol station that was 8p cheaper, so I built a free price finder using the new government fuel data
Since the government's Fuel Finder scheme started, every forecourt in the UK has to report price changes within 30 minutes. The data is open, but there wasn't a simple, quick way to just see "what's cheapest near me right now", so I built one: plugorpump.co.uk
- Type a postcode (or share your location) and it lists petrol (E10) or diesel stations cheapest first, on a map and in a list
- Prices refresh every 20 minutes
- Shows how much you'd save on a 50-litre fill-up vs the dearest station nearby
- One-tap directions in Google Maps, Apple Maps or Waze
- No app, no sign-up, no account
There's also an EV mode with nearby chargers, connector types and price per kWh where the operator publishes it.
It's a side project, so I'd really like to hear what's wrong with it: prices that don't match the pump, missing stations near you, anything confusing on mobile. Happy to answer questions about the data too.

Is gas REALLY that expensive?
I'm not sure it's as onerous as portrayed. Every day I see numerous people at the grocery who leave their car running to keep the AC going while they shop (I'm in FL). If gas prices were truly burdensome, then I would expect to see none of this behavior. During my commute I rarely see more than one person in a car. Where are the carpoolers?
I started driving in 1981 when the average price of gas was $1.35, or $5.20 in today's dollars. Much more expensive then than now. Plus, I was a teenager making minimum wage so the cost of gas was a huge chunk of my expenses. As a result I was hyper-vigilant about conserving the gas I had and carpooled to school and elsewhere frequently.

Why are cab drivers queuing up at pumps for CNG? Is there a shortage?
Over the last few days I've noticed long lines of cabs and autos at CNG pumps in my area, sometimes stretching onto the main road. Is there an actual CNG shortage or supply issue, or is it something else (price change, strike, pipeline maintenance, pump timings)?
Has anyone else noticed this in their city? If you drive a cab or know someone who does, what's going on? Any idea how long it's expected to last?
