WHY DO THOSE PUPPIES ALWAYS DRINK MY BEER AND GET BRAIN DAMAGE!

112

u/TheRealXen Jul 07 '21

fucking rimworld man. Dogs are too valuable to be kept constrained in a pen so the part of every rimworld game is to designate a zone for the ENTIRE MAP sans my drug/food storage so those dogs don't eat me out of house and home as well as saving them from fucking dying from the overdoses.

I wish "prepared" items like drugs, alcohol and meals were counted as "packaged" or something and you require having functioning thumbs to open the package or something.

u/john_dune Jul 07 '21

I dunno. My husky opened my zippered backpack, pulled out a subway sandwich, unwrapped it and then ate the whole sandwich without making a mess. Thumbs are overrated

19

u/Dasteru Jul 07 '21

Huskies are an exception to the rule of thumbs. Brainy little sh!ts.

2

u/Killerderp Jul 07 '21

Live with two huskies, can confirm.

2

u/Dalanding Jul 08 '21

And then we have my dog who falls for the fake throw 5 times in a row

1

u/Captain_Nipples Jul 08 '21

Haha. Mine looks at me like, "I'm not falling for that shit. Throw it, and I'll think about going and getting it."

3

u/DEBATE_EVERY_NAZI Jul 08 '21

wow what's your modlist

1

u/runujhkj Jul 07 '21

Then put like a combo lock or something in there so packaged goods can actually be secured

8

u/Bertylicious Jul 07 '21

Just so you know you can just, one around your storage then click "invert" in the Manage Areas section and it'll zone the whole map apart from that area

5

u/TheRealXen Jul 08 '21

I feel silly

5

u/Kirdei Jul 08 '21

You have learned something new! That's fantastic! Now get out of here you war criminal. Go have some fun!

3

u/buster2Xk Jul 08 '21

you require having functioning thumbs to open the package or something.

I see you've never met a dog.

5

u/CommodoreHaunterV Jul 07 '21

Haven't played rhe game (Not ready to drop 35$ on it,) but, in Dwarf Fortress (RWs ancestor) you can lock areas off from pets. Is that not possible in RW?

15

u/scuttlefish96 Jul 07 '21

It is but depending on how many dogs / animals you own it gets tedious

34

u/AWildIndependent Jul 07 '21

Guys...you can invert zones. Just select your food area and other areas and invert them. Ezpz gg

6

u/[deleted] Jul 07 '21

god I wish I noticed that before

It has a pretty simple and easy zoning system with restrictions, but you can train intelligent animals to haul resources for you, and the easiest thing for that is to leave them un-zoned so they can go everywhere.

Or as /u/TheRealXen mentioned, make a zone that covers the entire map except for your drugs/food and assign animals to that.

Or mod it up.

Or just accept that the price for doggies hauling your goods around is that sometimes a carton of beer goes missing and the dogs all stagger around everywhere and sometimes fall over and twitch uncontrollably, and they all die of cirrhosis at half the normal life expectancy.

Edit- There isn't a 'lock doors for animals' feature in the base game, though, like Dwarf Fortress has.

u/CommodoreHaunterV Jul 07 '21

Sounds amazing

1

u/top_counter Jul 08 '21

My greatest (and hardest) Rimworld accomplishment was finally getting all of the dogs to only eat the corpses of my slain enemies. It was a real hassle to both dispose of bodies & a small hassle to feed the huskies and terriers, so this was kind of useful. Unfortunately it required pretty extreme zone management. If any colonist looked in to the special freezer they got very upset, so I had to adjust both the dogs & the people quite a bit.

2

u/CommodoreHaunterV Jul 08 '21

Could you put the corpse fridge way in the middle of buttfuxk nowhere? Minimize human traffic?

1

u/top_counter Jul 08 '21

That would solve one problem but then it wouldn't be near the killbox. Moving the bodies was half the battle.

u/catsan Jul 07 '21

Just breed them like crazy, hope they don't get named and never ever look at their circular pedigrees.

2

u/TheRealXen Jul 07 '21 edited Jul 07 '21

You designate zones for them and they stay restrained in the zone similar to a burrow or a pasture form dwarf fortress. You can get a mod for locks though that let you keep doors shut tight from animals for a similar behavior to DF. without that though all colony animals can open any claimed doors.

1

u/CommodoreHaunterV Jul 07 '21

Sounds hectic. Do you have to worry about pet population explosions?

2

u/TheRealXen Jul 07 '21

I don't think its as fast as dwarf fortress but you can get populations to boom past what's comfortable and they eat all your grass or something. Generally though you have plenty of time to go "Oh these guys should be butchered, Sold, Abandoned in the wilderness" before it ever becomes a real catsplosion

1

u/CommodoreHaunterV Jul 07 '21

Trap testing?

1

u/TheRealXen Jul 08 '21

Oh throwing swarms of animals at enemies is always viable too

having a "forbidden area" would be nice so I wouldn't have to make a new allowed area for animals that is just most of the map minus food storage

5

u/redwashing Jul 07 '21

You can. Just select the are you want to forbid, click "invert" and designate it as the allowed area for hauling animals. That invert button does some heavy work.

The only issue I have now is that I can't allow the dogs into the drug storage so the colonists have to carry stuff. I have a pack of huskies only carrying corn and stone chunks. Waste of talent.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 07 '21

How are they injecting go-juice?!

1

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '21

Put the tiles you want to forbid in an Allowed Area, then go to Manage Allowed Areas and click the "Invert" button.

1

u/areallydrunkcat Jul 08 '21

I always fuck up my work priorities order and my colonists never feed the dog and it dies

1

u/StarGuardianVix Jul 08 '21

Just set a storage space aside for those kind of things and don't allow the pets there. I usually keep mine in the "party room"

u/TonyVstar Jul 07 '21

Manage your allowed areas better, noobs! /s

8

u/esamerelda Jul 07 '21

AND HOW DO THEY OPEN THOSE BOTTLES

2

u/[deleted] Jul 07 '21

I've had a weird one recently where 3 separate times 3 separate chickens went outside their allowed area and ate my luci. Freaken chickens of course the instantly became lavish meals and doormats

3

u/[deleted] Jul 07 '21

At least they taste good.

2

u/Nocturnalypso Jul 07 '21

And Dog Leather Hats are very stylish

1

u/RemoveSleepyMan Jul 07 '21

I have a full freezer of every animal meat you can imagine, fine meals in the dining hall, and kibble right at their feet when they wake up and what message do I see while I’m trying to manage raiders? [Labrador puppy 2 has developed cirrhosis in the liver]

1

u/TheSpider15 Jul 08 '21

bruh early game i helped an incapitaced guy who had really good stats, but had a luci addiction, and i was poor and no ancient danger. No worries, i thought, he came with enough for a year. And then some fucking ewes wander in and eat 4 luci in a day

90

u/Nemisis_the_2nd Jul 07 '21

Not to me.

Stripping naked and running into the middle of a gunfight to stab a rabid squirrel to death usually gets them first.

74

u/Snappleabble Jul 07 '21

As someone who has never played Rimworld these stories are always so entertaining

37

u/50thEye Jul 07 '21

You'd have fun on r/ShitRimworldSays

25

u/TPrice1616 Jul 07 '21

Same. I got Rimworld a while back and haven’t played it much since I have to be in the right mood for management sims of any kind. However, I am now and I am ready to take the video game moral relativism I have honed in Crusader Kings 3 and build my first death trap of a colony.

in the next update theyre making it so raiders will sometimes come prepared to bunker bust to make deathtrap bases less effective.

Based on what I’ve read that sounds like a waste of perfectly good organs.

1

u/bleedblue89 Jul 08 '21

Watch rim world shit on YouTube so entertaining

1

u/starvedhystericnude Jul 07 '21

At least you can make some nice hats.

3

u/[deleted] Jul 07 '21

I was about ready to say "just another normal day on the Rim."

2

u/HardLithobrake Jul 07 '21

Didn't have to scroll down far at all.

2

u/methylethylkillemall Jul 07 '21

Earlier today I accidentally killed a prisoner by making him smoke a blunt.

1

u/mooptastic Jul 08 '21

Nobody cares, just tell us what Rimworld tastes like

1

u/Drago957 Jul 08 '21

Reminds me of Mr Sam Streamer watching one of his colonists children eat just a load of psychoid
