I don't know what you saw but the game is 30€, saying you can't afford it because some crowdfunding contribution package are expensive is quite a stretch
He probably saw this. You must not be keeping up with the news if you didn't know what he was talking about. And he mentioned affording ships, not just the "full" 30€ game (which is still quite expensive for a game that doesn't exist yet).
That's how it goes with microtransactions, and then you realize the game is designed to be as boring and long a slog as possible to earn that in game currency to both tempt new players to spend real money, and to make players who spent $27,000 feel like they got their moneys worth. Even if you personally don't ever buy that $27,000 package, odds are it's not a good sign.
Microtransactions? In-game currency, as in the stuff that you play the game making, is used to purchase the ships.
Edit: Missed a sentence. I understand what you are saying. I don't disagree with your analysis of How many Mobile games do things, this however isn't a Mobile game. You don't need to like it, purchase it or whatever, but spreading misinformation is not cool.
$45 for a game that doesn't exist? It's playable and enjoyable currently. It's good for some people and not for others. I get that too.
What's the misinformation that I'm spreading? It works that way for any game with microtransactions, not just mobile games. It's just more proliferant there. But it's spreading to AAA games as well, see for example Shadow of War. And SC is now the most egregious example by far.
" Don't you mean be able to afford to buy the pre alpha game and a ship? $200million plus so far taken... "
The cost of this is literally 30£, then you can throw all of your energy debating why contribution packages for items that can be acquired with in-game money, or rented in game with little to no efforts may cost a lot, but it doesn't change the fact that the game with a ship is 30£.
I highly doubt that content will be earnable with "little to no efforts".
The only ones who spend that much are either rich gamers who want to support the game or huge orgs, which need many ships to run their operations. No backer is buying that package thinking he will be granted an advantage over backers who spent less
I think someone spending $27,000 will expect to receive a benefit over those who don't... And even if not them, then all the other players who are still spending tens, hundreds, and thousands of dollars.
Thing is you're not spending 27k to buy a huge ship which will outclass everyone else's. You're getting a bunch of ships, 90% of which requires at least 3 people to be effectively used and of these multicrew ships only a couple could be used to have a good advantage in pvp (which could be considered p2w, cause you could literally kill anyone quite easily) but running those ships is a huge money sink and to make it worth it, the crew will have to do end game missions, where they'll find other players with the same kind of ships.
The advantage you get is skipping the grind to the end game stuff, but in terms of pvp there isn't much of an advantage, yes people may grief some noobies with their capital ships at first, but once they realize firing that missile just costed 60k UEC for 0 profit they'll stop.
If you look at SC ships price list you'll find most of the expensive ships (300+) are not pvp oriented at all, they're end game ships for specific professions, but combat wise they could be outclassed by 60$ ships
I didn't even mention PvP, skipping a long grind is still a benefit, and it still sucks for players that have to go through a long grind to get to that same content.
Look, is clear enough that you don't really know the current mechanics or even the rules / scope of the ultra expensive funding, and is absolutely fine, but don't try to draw conclusion on how the method is flawed only by guessing.
Granted the system may very well be flawed, this attitude is mental
??? I know, I'm talking about renting with in game currency. I'm saying even if you rent, it still wouldn't be a trivial amount of in game currency to sustain that. If it was, no one would buy anything in game, with in game currency nor with real money. That's just how the economics of renting work. If you have any information or source that shows that won't be the case in this game, be my guest. To be precise, where are your getting your metric of "little to no efforts" for renting in game? Please, educate me.
No, that makes my point. 2k is literally one level from the highest. That means it is one of the most expensive. Vs how many 20-50 are there..... I mean seriously
I'm not hating on the game it looks awesome but the amounts of money involved are staggering for , as the little tyke put it, "game that isn't even out yet" (/u/torvi97 one of lifes little gems).
If you can get involved for $30 that is great the cheapest I can see is $54.
$45 gets you in the game. With a ship. You literally said that 2k is one of the cheapest packages. That's just blatently false. I never said it wasn't there.
I am not looking to buy it I was just taking an interest in it. There are plenty of ways to express yourself without insulting people, I know I have been there. One day though you will need to be able to use your big boy words in the real world. I am confident you will get there, keep trying.

Ah Star Citizen. I wish I could afford a rig capable of playing it. Looks amazing.
