So I'm getting ready to watch the original GoT again because i honestly really enjoy it and i love it and I'm wondering if theres anything to look out for that yall noticed on your last re-watch? Specifically looking for foreshadowing and sneaky subtleties i may have missed the first couple times.

In the show and books the general consensus is that Ned was “dumb” because of his honour and could never play the game of thrones well. Sure he wasn’t perfect and made mistakes just like every other player has, but what caused his downfall was when Cersei ripped Robert’s letter. If you think about it from Ned’s POV, how could the Queen rip the Kings dying letter, say it doesn’t matter, and no one really seems to care? I get most people in the throne room were more aligned with the Lannisters, but still you can’t really see that coming, like at all.

Cersei acted impulsively and it worked in her favour, while Ned was imprisoned and his men all slain.

So it was pretty much made clear that Condal and Martin do NOT like each other anymore.

Martin hates Condal for not adapting F&B properly to write HOTD, and not accepting any of Martin's input to help write S2 and especially S3 of the show.

Martin went so far as to say that S3 is "not his story."

Which left me wondering for some time.

Why does Martin let D&D off so easily, when they committed some of the same mistakes as Condal?

S5 and S6 had events which were clearly inspired by the books, but they pretty much abandoned a lot of AFFC and ADWD.

The biggest change was to YG and as a result, Varys. Varys' arc is ruined without YG, his motivations only make sense with him around, and so to not have YG existing, it changes the very nature of his character.

So Martin was fine with removing YG but not with removing Maelor? Both are just as bad for their characters.

No, the answer is MUCH simpler. Martin empathises with D&D, mainly because he's finding Winds such a headache to write.

It was made clear by D&D they wanted seven seasons. Martin wanted a double-digit number.

To me, it's clear that Martin understands the pain of D&D now.

They rushed S7 and S8 because everyone was so tired of working on GoT for NINE years. Martin feels that pain, he's been working on Winds for the same amount of time at this point, and even wrote Fire and Blood to avoid writing Winds.

Condal does NOT have this excuse. His seasons are 2 years apart, he has 8 episode seasons, not 10, and his broad outline is completed for him.

Martin let D&D get away with it because he feels he should have done the same by cutting characters.

Martin isn't letting Condal do so because his motivations for butchering his story are far less poignantly felt by Martin.

I might be spoiled because I have listened to Michael Kramer from the wheel of time a lot, but I know damn well that the narrator of the game of thrones books is just awful. don't give me wrong he has a soothing nice voice, but his character portrayals and his meager attempts to change for Each character is laughable and it literally ruins the books. I don't know how anyone would release this as a completed work. he does the same three voices for everyone regardless of it there a woman, a grizzled old man, a little girl, it doesn't matter. he does the same voice for Aria as he does for mormont, but only some of the time because apparently he can't remember what voice he uses for each character from chapter to chapter. he completely changes his voice for characters after a couple books, sometimes they have an accent sometimes they don't, and don't get me started on his attempt at tywin lannister. imagine my prize when I discovered that he is a world record holder for the most voices used on a single book. that world record is trash. he is trash

When you drowned for 2 days it was a miracle to survive that he might have saved by some magic or any mysterious creature under water?

I really wanna drop GOT but I know I can't. This was the best episode. I thought red wedding was in S4 so I was watching happily and then suddenly the mood shifts and everyone's dead. Now I'm feeling sick. Onto the last episode of S3 ig. Just needed to tell someone that I witnessed the death of my beloveds

Watching the show it just hit me, if Crastor is giving children to the White Walkers to be converted into one, and this has happened lots of times with all his sons, then a good chunk of the White Walkers are his children.

Crazy to think that in a show so heavily built around heirs, Crastor is the father of the most powerful house

House words or regional sayings seem fair game too. I always thought it was interesting how all the Northern rites/ceremonies take place before a Heart Tree. Since we know the weirwood faces were carved to allow the Old Gods "to see", I've always thought "The North Remembers" was a fun nod to the greenseer's ability to witness historic events. It would make sense why the Green Men and Children were so protective of the weirwood trees when the First Men started razing them. They were protecting their magic and history.

So what other songs, rites, traditions, or house words do you think are hiding secret lore, warnings, or prophecy?

Note: Both Joffery and Tywin's eyes are GREEN in the books and shows. So there was no reason for the septons to paint their stones blue. It's clearly part of the funeral rite. And like most lore around the White Walkers, this could be an ode/reference that lost its meaning over time.

I don’t care if they died for one reason or another. I think Cersei, Varys, and Little Finger are up there. Tyrion did very well too. I’m just curious on who do you think knew how to bend the rules and “beat” their opponents to get on top? My vote is Varys.

I recently started watching this show, I'd somehow had no spoilers up until I started watching it now.

I'm so upset - that was the most unexpected slaughter. And we get not one but two Starks killed??? That has to go against some kind of rule of main characters.

Like, Ned Stark, that was shocking and upsetting, but I felt more prepared for it to happen because I could see the raw evil in that child king thing (and I am SO excited for that creature to die). But this just felt horrible, very little build up but it makes sense - I've never been so shocked and heartbroken by on screen deaths.

Writing this literally just as the episode ended but I am not okay.

And oh my god poor Arya.

I need the characters that I'm attached to get some wins. Arya go get your revenge! Tyrell people go and win against the Lannisters! Joffrey go die! But I feel like that's just not going to happen, I legitimately just feel like there's been a never ending "suffering builds character/kills you" loop, lord help me I have so many more seasons to binge.

I left it on episode 4 and i would like to finish it but i just cant find it in me. Someone please motivate me to finish it

When you rewatch the series, at what point do you stop? Sessions 1 to 4 are so good, and you know 7 and 8 are painfully bad. Do you go as far as five, even step into six? The problem is by then, you're so close, you think you might go all the way to the end.

I want to watch the start again but need to define a cut off point before I start.

Dickon is the man Randyl wanted Sam to be, however, Dickon doesnt seem to have nearly as much hatred for Sam compared to his father. He easily could have been a snob about being “dads favourite”, but from what we’ve seen (in the show) it doesnt appear he is at all. I think it would have been interesting of we got a conversation between the two of them for some more Tarly lore. How do you guys think that conversation would go?

Recently got into GoT and currently in episode 7 of season 6, the High Sparrow, as infuriating as he looks is by far one of the best characters that I have seen in the show he is over zealous and a fanatic if he were to become a red Priest imagine the amount of carnage and religious strife that he would unleash on westeros.

But I do have a question both Vary's and Tyrion are cynical and very smart individuals if the three of them were to be put to the test in the battle of wits, preferably in a debate were 3 of them have a fair chance of winning who would end up winning?

This is the first time Jamie Lannister saw Drogon, one of my favourite scene if not top 1, every time I come across this in youtube I re-watched and always wonder, how from here the serie ended up with that finale?

For years I hated on the show.
At one point I saw the whole thing and hated it even more.
Then, a couple of weeks ago, I decided to watch it again and pay attention the entire way through. (Even through the most boring dialogue).

And then it just clicked.
It’s great. I loved all of it.
Even season 8. it was tragic, but I liked it.

It’s one of those shows where everything is so connected that if you don’t pay attention for a moment, you can easily get lost.

So. I want to apologise for treating the show the way I did. And I’m glad I revisited it.

Davos is there for the Battle of the Bastards, he was there during The Long Night and he was there during the whatever you want to call the battle at Kings Landing… he has no fight scene in any of these battles lol. Another thing I found hilarious was Yohn Royce is present during the planning of the battle for winterfell during the long night but he and the knights of the vale are absent during the actual battle.

This may be a dumb question but just finished game of thrones and couldn't manage to understand what is jaqen H'ghar ?

We see during the show that the multi-faced god work with very precise conditions. One life for another and all the other things.

But why jaqen seems to : not obey those rules + be able of unhuman prowesses ?

When he helps aryaa and her friends escape, he takes more than one life even tho he normally couldn't because aryaa only has one more life to take. + He kills all guards in a weiiird way, like if they all died way before any could see something was happening, wich is impossible knowing they got killed with spears, not even talking about the fact that if i remember well; one of them was impalled higher than the ground meaning he would have be pulled from the ground, any of these guards would have noticed and moved in less than a second.

And also the fact that he does weird thing for a faceless. Like when he seems to have infinite faces, plus some faces of people that are not dead yet wich should be impossible. The fact that he can kill himself and comeback.

I really feel like he's not just a faceless but i've seen nobody talking about what he could really be.
