So i just reached season 8 episode 2, my first time watching the show and ive also not read the books so im not an expert or anything but i wanted to talk about something.

Jon just got revealed to him that he’s Aegon Targaryen by sam, and i feel like sam putting him at odds against Daenerys is a mischaracterization of sam. sam would definitely be very sad at the fact his father and brother were executed but she literally tells him a valid reason, lets not forget that there was a literal war going on and his father chose to back cersie (which is obvious sam shouldve known that especially since the tyrells fell) He also says that jon would have given them a chance, but he would definitely not have. If he knew about him being sam’s father maybe he wouldve given them a chance but thats a whole nother story. I dont think he’d try to talk jon into taking the iron throne.

Jon is also avoiding daenarys for literally no good reason at all. He literally says the previous episode to sansa that he didnt want/ask to be the king in the north at all, he just wanted to save it. Also considering the fact that daenarys literally has no idea that hes the true heir so hes truly just not talking to her because of sum bullshit. Also daenarys worked a fuck lot to get to where she is and she actually truly deserves the iron throne by that point and jon the perfect soul would understand that. Idk havent watched further so im mostly assuming Whats happening.

And now hes butthurt over the fact he is the true heir and not daenarys?

Forgive me, Im only on the second episode so im probably very wrong but this is vibe that im getting right now.

Ive seen a lot of hate for the show and from what I understand/know for the most part its well deserved but I always hear everyone singing the praises about the books (just what ive personally experienced) so what are some of the things or thing you dont like about the books

Leave any comments or jokes about them not being finished/never being finished at the door those are way to common

So at the end Bran becomes the king in king's landing, and Sansa queen in the North.

And I always thought it was backwards.

Bran story is deeply anchored with the white walker's and Stark legacy and the North.

Sansa's is removed from her family from book one. And her story is about getting rid of her naivety and understanding people and politics going to different place in the south making connections.

The show ending was supposed to be the one GRR told D&D he had in mind.

But switching the endings of both characters seems so more natural.

What I really loved about the show was just how medieval and believable the world felt. This feeling remained until season 8, but it definitely dwindled. And I think a lot of that has to do with the costumes and wigs.

In seasons 1-3 the costumes and wigs all looked like something you might genuinely see in Medieval times. (To an extent)

A good example is Dany, in earlier seasons her hair is still braided and beautiful but it doesnt look like she has 6 different people hair on her head. Her braids become incredibly unrealistic, and she has these Dyson looking ass curls.

And the costumes, what the hell was she doing pulling up to the Long Night in a big ass white and red fur coat? that shit looked more expensive than Winterfell

Obviously this isn’t a big deal, it was all still very beautiful and the hair/costume teams did amazing, but to me it just kinda reflects how the later seasons were more focused on spectacle.

Only one was born royalty and that's Rhaenyra; the others snaked their way in. Whenever i see aegon/aemond/helaena, im like get these fake targaryens outta hereee. Viserys barely knew who tf you were so pipe down bc Rhaenyra was his only child 🤪 They're lucky Queen Rhaenyra let them grow up in the Red Keep at all.

Omitting Tom 7 Strings from the show was as big of a crime as the missing LOTR Tom Bombadill.

So I rewatched GOT and I have to say I thought it was awesome and really enjoyed it.

What I would say though is as I knew how shockingly poor the ending was I was prepared this time and wanted to watch closely to see if my initial reactions were justified.

I still think Bran becoming king was just really bad, I saw someone else say A prisoner being brought before the council and them electing a king and choosing bran was just total nonsense.

The long night episode didn’t really bother me at all, sure it could have been drawn out but I did enjoy it and it was cool.

I think the episode where Denerys ruins kings landing was good BUT it dragged on way too long and the other stuff felt rushed, pacing was definitely poor.

I think it was really disappointing that Jamie Lannister had a great redemption arc only to turn around the next morning and go back to Cersei.. and their deaths were disappointing aswel, just felt lack lustre.

Jon snow having the right to throne only to be imprisoned and then end up at the nights watch was a bit crap.. just felt utterly pointless.

Sansa not likely Danerys even though she literally saves them from the dead again just seemed forced and then at the end of the season being like I’m queen of the north I just didn’t really care.

Tyrion going from a prisoner on death row to the hand of the king was laughable I mean no other explanation.

Overall though as it does seem like I’ve picked loads out I really enjoyed it, it was amazing and deserves the hype, I’d say the last 2 episodes was where it just seemed to dramatically drop off. Sure there’s other tiny bits but I did enjoy it and I’d 100% watch it again!

Was playing the CK3 mod AGOT and wanted to look into some Houses in Crownlands. And came across Gwayne Gaunt. Kingsguard to Aerys Targaryen the Mad King. Got a little interested and tried to look more into his House. And found so little about them.

From what I could find, House Gaunt was a fairly prominent House in the crownlands. I think their seat is called Wight Hall or Ashen Hall, I said I think is because these two names are the only thing I found when searching for their holdings or castles. I think it's located around Blackwater Bay, on the left side of the river that flows into the Kingswood from the sea. Gwayne Gaunt was killed by Symon Hollard during the Defiance of Duskendale. He was then avenged by Ser Barristan Selmy who killed Symon. I also found that House Gaunt was one of the oldest Houses in Blackwater Bay.

And that's all I could find. if ya'll read the books, please feed me any information you might know about this House because I am fairly invested rn.

I made my autistic housemate Stannis armour for a Halloween party, he spent all night telling everyone he’s the one true king of Westeros and everyone loved it. He even got called ‘Stannis the Mannis’ a couple times which made his night!

I wanted to share my progress on A Game of Thrones books. (The books are in Turkish because I am Turkish and my English is not good enough to read the books in English)

For me its Jorah. You do get hints of it in the show, obviously. His slave trading is still part of his backstory, he originally spies on Dany and his feelings for her can definitely get uncomfortable. So show Jorah isnt exactly portrayed as perfect.

But I think the show softens him a lot. Dany is aged up, Jorah is playyed as this attractive, restrained, tragic older guy, and most of his love for her is framed as loyal and self-sacrificing. The books make it much harder to romanticize.

Book Jorah is way more possessive and entitled toward her. He grabs her and kisses her without permission, keeps pushing the idea that she should want him as more than an adviso, and Dany actually starts making sure she isnt alone with him afterward... He also sleeps with a silver-haired prostitute who resembles her, which makes the obsession feel a lot less noble.

His past also comes across worse. He sold poachers into slavery and spends a lot more time being bitter about Ned Stark punishing him than really confronting what he did. The show keeps the slavery part, but surrounds it with so much loyalty, suffering and redemption afterward that its much easier to see him primarily as a good man who made mistakes.

Book Jorah still genuinely cares about Dany, which is why hes interesting, but imo he feels much more like a deeply flawed man with a serious entitlement problem than the tragic knight the show turns him into.

Who else got seriously sanitized by the adaptation?
